Any idea if Saturated cans are at Balmoral? I wanted to check yesterday but I either completely forgot or never knew HA was closed on Mondays

I think that's basically what @SeanBond said at the start of his longer post.

It is, and I think that overall location has something to do with it. Two points since Tree House was brought into this and I was just there and Trillium. First, I was very surprised to realize how much cheaper Tree House is. Their pale ale (Fort Point) is $2 a 4-pack more than the TH one (Tornado). Their DDH IPAs (DDH Summer / DDH Melcher) were the same price as Doubleganger, and their non-DDH Double IPAs were $2 per 4-pack more. The breweries have to be of similar size, they both sell on-site only for cans. Tree House may have passed them up in total production in the past 6 months, but the only thing we could think of is that they are able to charge a premium in Boston.

Also - Tree House has stated that they have increased the hop bills for their core beers over time (I think he said that Green today is effectively what they would have called Gggreennn 2 or 3 years ago), so I don't know if it's true to say they use less hops than everyone else.

This is a good point. I'm done with beer, I'm gonna start collecting fast food. How long before a classic single falls off? #wendysadvocate

Yeah, I was just checking Treehouse pricing, and their stuff is damn affordable. It's still not fair to compare a brewery like HA to them, though; we can do that if/when Treehouse moves into the city (Chicago).

And to be clear, I don't/won't pay $20 a 4-pack for every beer. I'm just willing to do so for the ones that I feel warrant that price. A counter-example is that I grabbed a 6-pack of Stone's "West Coast NE" beer (Fear. Movie. Lions.) because I like Stone, and it's well-priced (like $12 or 13 for 6 tallboys). However, the more cans I drank, the more I realized that less isn't more in this case; I'd much rather pay $15 for a 4-pack than $12 for a sixer of this, because I enjoy the beer so much less (it was going up against Tavern Cut, so maybe it's also bad timing). In the same way, I'm fine paying $20 for something I enjoy more than a $15 beer; I wince a little at a $20 4-pack, but the fact that I can't wait for my next can of Preen shows me that it was worth it.

...now I'm going to try and move away from this pricing debate I always get too deep into...

Yeh the spicy chicken is the best and I usually default to that. They also make the best hamburger of the giant fast food quartet IMO.

Hugely popular in its region, but after expansion it turns out it's overpriced and just decent.

They had it on draft in April and I did think it was really good. Like maybe the best golden ale / American blonde I've had (the session IPAs masquerading as such by some New England breweries don't count).

I've heard from somewhere (can't remember) that there was a pear version once upon a time that was really good too.

It was the first beer I ever had with any kind of hop presence. Seven years ago this beer had a syrupy grapefruit thing going on. Last time I had it on draft at the taproom that wasn't there and that's probably just because my tastes have changed and this beer isn't meant to be a hoppy beer. But it was still very solid and I'm honestly here (with the job I have, this forum, turning beer into my hobby, etc) because of this beer.

Greetings gentlefolk of the Great Lakes forum.

Here in Portland Oregon, we just started seeing Half Acre beer on a fairly regular basis over the past month (cans and kegs). In the past we've gotten the occasional one off and smattering of HA stuff during various beer fests, but it appears we're now going to start seeing regular distribution of their fine beers.

My experience with HA is positive, but also fairly limited. When I lived in Baltimore (from 07 to 2012), I would see HA beers on occasion during Philly beer week, which is where I first had the opportunity to try things like Daisy Cutter and Double Daisy Cutter. Obviously, a lot has changed since then, as I'm seeing a whole new range of IPA's and DIPA's from HA (other things too, but it's the hoppy offerings from HA I've been most impressed by so far). So far, based on my limited "research," I feel as if HA does a better job with their lower abv. beers (APA's and IPA's), rather than the DIPA's.

My question is this. Is this something you've found to be the case as well, or have I just not tried enough different DIPA's from Half Acre (I've had Deep Space, Double Daisy Cutter and a few others whose names escapes me)? Assuming the latter, what DIPA's should I be on the lookout for from HA, and for that matter, what other current HA's IPA's would you recommend?

BTW. Just had a can of Daisy Cutter for the first time in years the other day (out of the can), and IMHO, it's still one of the very best APA's on the market.

    Cheers!
