A local craft beer bar had a keg of The Hemperor on 1 of their over 100 taps. Then they put a Bell's Two Hearted on the tap when the Hemperor was gone. The Two Hearted is undrinkable because of the strong hemp odor and taste. They flushed the line and it persisted. They then had their distributor professionally clean the line but the strong hemp odor remains. The two hearted has been on this tap now for over a week (I don't know how many beers have been poured) but the strong hemp odor and taste remain. Has anybody had this experience with The Hemperor or any other hemp beers?

That added Dank is a perk, they could charge more for the two hearted....

Never heard of this happening, the odor I got from the beer was nothing that magical. It smelled like a dank beer to me. I have had numerous beers out by the pool that take on the same smell when heated up in the sun, I actually enjoy this a lot.
    Cheers

[IMG] My previous keg was Hemperor and yes this tastes very Dank. The second I start to pour it smells like skunk.

I am not sure why but I really love this in a beer. LOL my wife thinks I am nuts but it works.
    Cheers!

IMO that would be an improvement on Two Hearted

I was a pot head for over 10 years and I still dig that smell. I feel like you get a slightly different buzz from it. Cheers

It is possible that I know the taste and smell of pot from long ago but in my opinion The Hemporer's odor and taste is not good beer or pot.

I never had a beer so dank/weedy in my life! Had a single bottle out at a bar and was blown away by the aroma. The beer itself was unique and got to be a bit much by the end, but I still enjoyed it. No other beer comes close to mimicking that particular aroma, even those loaded with hops like CTZ, Summit, Simcoe, etc… Hemperor really is impressive in that regard.

I am also one of those who doesn’t mind a beer picking up some skunky notes when it sits out in the sun. In fact, for a while there was a taste in IPA’s that I tried to pinpoint. Contacting breweries on hops or malts used, trying to figure refine it to particular ingredients so I can recreate it myself… I just LOVED it. Eventually, after months and months, found out it was only when I had beer outside on the deck (or at a bottle share at local brewery outside) which quickly led me to find out it was just skunking. LOL. It was always so faint I never really put 2 and 2 together… But yeah, I dig that in small amounts for sure!

I am 100% with you on this. I only experienced this when sitting in the direct sun with my beer. I would start to pick up weed notes from it as it warmed and it became really nice. I got hooked to having this happen and would try and mimic it in my beers, I never knew what strain of hops dominated this but it was great. I cannot remember the ones that did that most, I guess time to experiment again. Glad others like this also, just thought I was having flashbacks to my younger days lol.
    Cheers

Yep, this happened at the growler store I work at on weekends. Tapped The Hemperor, then after many attempts at cleaning the line and never getting rid of that taste and aroma on anything we put on after, we just completely replaced the lines going to the keg cooler.

This used to happen in the '90's with extract-based raspberry beers.

A one hour soak of Draftec at 1.5 strength after close followed by packing the line with white vinegar overnight (8 hrs min) will normally do the trick for line staining such as this.

With direct-draw systems, it’s easier, faster and less expensive to simply replace the beer line.

Ha I was just thinking we need someone like IceAce or Billandsuz to comment on this.

I had a bottle of the hemperor this week with a best by of less than a month away and it had held up remarkably well. I have a feeling the hemp doesn't fade like hops. Maybe have to throw in a new line but that's just plastic tubing.

I had the same experience last week - may have even improved a bit from the first time I tried it 6 weeks or so before.

Well, let me say that I did not enjoy this beer, and found the nose overpowered the taste, but I'm glad I tried it. Unfortunately for me trying it involved buying a 6 pack instead of a single. I managed to give away one, and brought the last 4 to my softball game. My teammates popped all 4 and the smell in that dugout.....lordy. The umpire even check out our dugout, probably making sure we weren't sparking one up in the middle of a game. Unique beer for sure.

This beer seems to have so many potential uses. Anyone pour it into a spray bottle as an Eau d'Hemperor?

[IMG] 14th Star Tribute to Hemperor. Seriously you are confirming what I have been thinking for over a month. Still good, but it changes the nose big time.

In my opinion, it ruins the smell and to a lesser extent the taste of any beer poured through the line. I could smell The Hemporer when it was poured from 20 feet away. The new keg with the same line I still smell it from 10 feet away and the taste is evident.
