I like pale ales, IPAs, stouts, quads, etc as much as the next beer drinker, but got to respect the lagers as well. Love a easy drinking tasty lager in summer and I can't wait for fall fest beer drinking

Had a few Special Lagerbiers two nights back. Far from flavorless. This is a smokey, malty, Rauchbier style.

I cannot get enough of Sam 76'. Not even sure of the style and I have picked up the can many, many times...
To me, it is a cross between a lager and a pilsner.

almost spot on it is a cross between a lager and an ale. I believe it is a blend of the two.

IMO nothing beats a well made Helles or Pils. Love me some lagers!

Eliot Ness is one fine beer, and I have to recommend it to people who doubt lagers.

Well, I can still taste those Munich Lowenbraus that I drank with my Dad back in the late 60s. Rich and golden, redolent of fresh baked bread, with a pure maltiness that never strayed into sweetness. Not only are these great memories, but the beer was truly excellent and way better than most.

I really wish people would stop saying this without clarifying what styles they mean. Again, "lager" is not a style, and to conflate it with American Adjunct lager makes you sound ignorant at best and elitist at worst. If you do mean American Adjunct lagers, maybe I can sort of see where you are coming from, but it's not correct to use "lager" as shorthand for AAL.

If you mean pilsner, helles, rauchbier, Vienna, bock, doppelbock, and so on are flavorless, I would say you're literally factually wrong. If you can't taste a pilsner, doppelbock, or rauchbier especially, I would be curious what exactly you can taste, as I assume that list is shorter than what you can't.

No flavor in a lager? I'm getting a nice sweetness out of this Sierra Nevada Vienna Lager that's in my glass right now. Almost reminds me of eating a good piece of sweet bread.

When people say no flavor, I think they mean they weren't bitch slapped with a tree, fruit or coffee upon tasting. Bready malt flavor just isn't exciting to some people. It's probably less about them not tasting anything and more about them not liking what they are tasting (or not being able to accurately describe it).

For me, it took venturing into the gnarliest ipas and imp stouts to finally overdo it and wander back to some more nuanced, reserved styles. I still enjoy a good dipa or big coffee stout, but lately marzen is tasting great too. I've been drinking more low abv, low IBU styles lately and enjoying it. (Hefeweizen, brown ale, pale ales, gose, etc)

Which leaves the other 25% to crappy craft beers in many styles. Defining crappy is a personal thing.

I am a big fan of lagers. I truly enjoy the taste of beer and sometimes a lager hits the spot. Especially when I am thirsty. They may not be sexy or super popular but they have been around forever and honestly they are very enjoyable. At least to me.

Hamms is a great beer. It just happens to be a lager.

I'd agree with that, not all AALs are crappy fizzy yellow water. Some are better than others, and none are as good as a middle of the road Pils or craft Lager. But .. That case of Hamm's is like $12 too. I found some Michelob a few months ago, and it's as good as it ever was , and I hate they changed the bottle.

My take as well. Fortunately, I now live in a world where decent craft lagers are readily available. Sure, they cost a bit more than $12 a case, but IMHO, you get what you pay for. I'll pay the price to drink a well made lager (whether made here or overseas).

Drink a Samichclaus, Troegenator, and or St Nicholas Bock, there you go a bock, a double, and I guess what you would call a triple. In fact, drink all three of these in one night (I've done it couple times) and tell me how much you hate lagers. Sorry, I know I'm boring but these threads, who hates lagers? I don't discriminate, in fact when I drink these 3 I call "going to lagerville". While I can still talk.

If beers were to be diagramed in a pyramid like the government used to to with foods lagers would be the foundation..bread and butter.

Out on a little trip. Local breweries all over. On the first night, tried some local ales. I wouldn’t have any of those beers a second time. On the second night, I had a liter of what I was really craving - Traunsteiner Zwickel. That’s a beer I could live on. An import lager that danced on the graves of the local ales. Anyone calling this flavorless should go to the doctor. I like beer.
