Let's hope so. The one I had tasted like candy/bubblegum, like some weird artificial flavor, but I didn't want to mention it because I was already bitching about the Legal Limit.

just came on here to see if anybody was experiencing their yeast contamination issues, but it looks like you all have started the discussion.

From the notes on Untappd it looks like their newest release ICO is having the same issue. I feel kind of bad for them, but at the same time I kind of giggle considering how they try to hype up their beers tasting "mind blowing" on their instagram. Even the cans say "Hype Series" on it. :grimacing:

I'm glad they're taking the feedback on social media seriously. I thought they were making some pretty good beer and then the last couple of months, I was like WTF? How have they regressed so much?!

Picked up an ICO at the store this weekend before I remembered you mentioned something about it. Well, I even drank it after a Pranqster to make sure I was in a funky Belgian mood.

There's just something a little strange going on. I was really hoping for even just something run-of-the-mill, but the funky quality of the aroma and taste seems like artificial candy - pretty much the same thing I got from the last 8 Lbs. Really hope they get things sorted out.

Anyone take Tim up on his offer on Instagram response for free beer or whiskey for buying these off batches?

Where is this on Instagram? Also, it looks like there's a 7/2 batch of Eight Lbs . . . was this one of the off batches? Wondering if I should have Bay Area hook-up pick me up a pack, or wait until this has been cleared up?

Yeah. This one is just plain awful.

I tolerated Legal Limit okay, even though that yeast was strongly Belgian. But this one literally is 1-dimensional and only tastes of the Belgian yeast. Whatever their brewing process is, it's absolutely compromised. I don't know why the act as if they didn't realize this until people complained. Truly bizarre actions from 7S. This should not have been released.

Because if they admitted to a comprised brewing process it would probably destroy the value of their crowdfunding campaign. I'm going to go out a limb here (looking at zero data, so this is 100% a guess) but I'd imagine beer is their main growth engine, especially sales through the expanding number of taprooms. Any cracks in the growth engine would look horrible, especially at this time.

Btw, the thought that these people think this brewery/distillery is worth $20.8M pre-money made me laugh. I wish them best.

Okay, with all their yeast fiasco (hopefully) out of the way, I resumed my regular programming with this one:

    Umbrella Drink
    , a 5.9% Cucumber Mint Kettle Sour.

Surprisingly tasty! I tend to not like Kettle Sours, but this one turned out pretty well. More successful than their Blueberry Funke. It's exactly what it sounds like - a refreshing beer with a mix of tartness, cucumber and mint. The lemony tartness actually brings this drink into balance, evoking something like a cocktail.

I've not been feeling Seven Stills lately, but I'd have to say this one is a keeper.

The letter was hilarious. Mad props for all of the puns they used.

Yup, 7S hazies are back in business.

This is Whiskey Sour, their 8.5% DIPA collaboration with Humble Sea.

If it's trying to emulate the cocktail, it's a fail. (Edit: It's an IPA with whiskey soaked wood chips, cherry, and lemon. They're pretty subtle though.) Instead, it's a really nice DIPA for drinking. Juicy citrus, a little sweetness, and low bitterness. For such a high octane very, not picking up booziness, so kudos to them for getting back into control of their brewing.

@thuey I'm assuming you got your hands on 5Lbs? It looks to be pretty well regarded so I'm assuming their yeast issues have been corrected.

ICO IPA was meh...nothing to write home about. Very basic. Rod and Reel red imperial ale with swedish fish was a huge let down. The can art and name implied so much goodness and none of it delivered. It was a musky bitter red ale. They should rename and relabel it. I won’t buy it again.

Again, another 7S kettle sour. This one is Peach and Apricot, and you can definitely smell and taste it. But for my taste, it's a tad too puckering sour.

    Umbrella Drink
had more restraint, and worked better for its subtle cucumber and mint. It's not like Peach & Apricot are bold flavors either, so that approach would have worked here. Granted, it may be hard to dial in lacto acidity. It's still a decent effort, though, and lots of people would love it. I like that it does deliver its promise of stone fruit. It's just doesn't have the balance that I prefer.
