What beer are you drinking now? #2126

This particular bottle of beer recently arrived home after traveling to Ocala, FL. It was intended for @Ocalafox, and was out for delivery, but tragedy struck the box it was traveling in. The remaining contents of the box were all repackaged, and returned to sender. I drank one of these beers before bed last night, and this bottle seems to taste better. Maybe I will try to drink well-traveled beers more often.

I am drinking Christmas in July, a Barley-Wine from Martin Brewhouse, a fairly new small local brewery in Fort Worth, Texas, ABV 13.2%, IBU 52. It is not July any more but it is hot like July. The flavor is caramel, raisins, red wine, some orange, and it is a bit boozy (well it is strong). This beer is not too different from a Swedish Christmas drink called Glögg.

Shopping done and I'm settling in for the day . . .




Clear amber gold color with white cap and scant lacing.

Aroma of sweet, rich malt and lightly floral, spicy hops.

Richer than the usual Amber I come across with a decidedly malty presence and enough hops to balance and keep things refreshing. The malt is rich, deep, seemly sweet without actually being sweet and hops are there with a light touch.

 

Wanted to post this because I just heard Aretha passed on today. She was a icon and will be missed, RESPECT....

After this beer, I am going to redd up the house. I must be ready for when yinz Pittsburgh Steelers fans start arriving in town.

 

Honestly better than I would have expected. Shockingly above average, I'd definitely purchase this again for the price. 4.00/5.00

Saturated from Alefarm brewery in Denmark. A modern NEIPA, rather awesome stuff. Just like the artwork on the can.

Took me some time to get this beer. Alefarm does not have a web-shop or international website as far as I know. Got this one and some others from the Mikkeller web-shop. Glad I still have another for the weekend.

Having blueberry cucumber gose by elk brewing. Not sure if I like it or not, but I bought a six pack so I'll find out. (mirrors my relationship with sours in general and horseradish sauce) it's saltier than I expected and has more cucumber in the taste than I'd like. I was hoping strong blueberry and a bit brighter, lighter beer.
