To the brewery? Increased revenue from more people attending in general, less issues with neighbors and surrounding businesses complaining of crowds, less need for personnel to manage people in line, and more revenue from people plopping a chair down and waiting inside.

Should we go into benefits for neighbors? Not having people stand on their sidewalk all day.

Or benefits for Ardmore? People plopping a chair down and going to local businesses.

Or benefits for local businesses? Aforementioned increased revenue plus not having neckbeards on their sidewalk all day.

Or benefits for consumers? Not having to wait in line all day to get beer lol.

The only reasoning I can hear against the chair system is "I hAve To WaIt iN LiNe OtHeR pLaCeS tHo (or reading between the lines "it doesn't work for my schedule personally and I am entitled to beer") which is... unpersuasive. Feel free to correct me if there's some benefit in missing, though.

All those positives would still be true if they either kept a stocked cooler, did silent releases, or online advanced sales with anytime pickup. And without rewarding any under-employed re-sellers.

Hmmm? I may not have been clear but I was talking more about line policies and policing, not the beer.

I don't think it's a stretch to assume that if they didn't have planned releases that drive hype like these ones they wouldn't be able to sell as much and/or charge as much.

I for one would not be buying coffee, food, etc in Aardmore if I was not spending hours and hours waiting for cans.

I think a lot of tired hands buyers these days are uneducated beer people. They’ve hopped on this IG beer hype line craze and that’s it. They don’t know much of beer and think the only craft is juicy ipas and dessert style stouts. They’d say anything store bought is not craft, I saw comments once that troegs makes shit beer hahah like come on that’s comical. My guess is a good amount of people in line are “told” what’s good via Facebook and IG. Sorry I sound bitter but I do think there is some truth to what I said. And it does explain the phenomenon you mentioned at least partly I think.

Let me also say to each his own I’m not bashing anyone for what they find fun in. Just wanted to add that

You’re not too far off. There are defintely people who don’t know much but love the beers that aren’t like most beers.

Yeah I don't think that's controversial. It's a natural consequence of a scene that has gotten significantly less niche in the past 5 years.

The Cream Team is pretty good but not $26.50 good. Glad I split a 4 pack with 3 other friends.

Or only care that something is "limited" or "rare":
A lot of these hazy IPAs are very similar but say it's "limited" or a "collaboration", and people think they need to have it. Or ship it across the country in exchange for a very similar beer.

I visited tired hands today to have a few with the family. The food and beers were good. The best part was when my non beer drinking brother asked why everyone in the place had tattoos and neck beards. I then explained to him what a haze bro was and he was literally laughing as he walked out past a few.

Agreed. I also think Untappd has largely increased that desire and consumerism. It’s about how many different uniques you have, etc.

Yeah, I got into an argument with a friend of a friend who said basically that same thing. He would not acknowledge that Victory, Yards, or Troegs brewed any beers worth drinking. So immediately his opinion on anything beer related was meaningless to me.

Agree wholeheartedly about Untappd fueling that mindset. I began using it merely as a way to tracking what I was drinking and which beers I liked more than others. But I admit the more I used it the more I would value something new I hadn't tried before, purely because it was novel. There's definitely a psychological factor. Now I use it occasionally if I remember or if it's something I think is noteworthy but try to stay away from the shitty "everything must be logged" mentality.

Truth, 150k in 24 hours or so is still crazy.

I actually just stopped ticking beers on there recently. I've felt liberated since. I'd delete it completely, but I just love reading the check-ins the night of a Tired Hands release and count the # of "It's green, gotta let it sit a week" comments.

I would agree with this. Untappd has become an incredibly popular app over the last few years. I love the ability to track beers and see what friends think of different releases.

Haha this is the same way I used untappd now. Cracks me up every time, “in a week this will be fire...”

You know it’s a crazy time in reality when you often find yourself defensive about places that maybe didn’t start the movement, but very much advanced it through to today. I feel that way far too often. Yes, Troegs/Victory/Yards may not embrace exactly the styles of beer I want at that exact time, or make every decision in direct alignment with my wishes, but they’re amazing breweries and important ones.

Same. A new shake will drop, and the majority of the checkins will be "a bit hot, needs a week", and then after 3 similar comments, you'll see a checkin saying it's so creamy and smooth, 5 caps.
