the Pilsner thread encouraged me to branch out this summer. Looking to do the same with stouts and porters as we transition to fall.

What are people’s favorite ones that are fairly easy to obtain?

Love Mayflower Porter. Rarely find fresh, though.

Ipswich Oatmeal is a classic. Clown Shoes has some good to great bombers. Smutty robust. Founders Porter. NH specific but Kelsen kills the dark beer game.

Big fan of the Clown Shoes stouts, BA or not. Enjoyed Crasher in the Rye enough where I bought out a bottle shop of them and look forward to it being a regular this fall/winter.

I've been able to find Kelsen's Vinátta at Burlington wine and spirits as well as Fort Point market - an absolute steal on the clearance shelf at the latter for $7.99 collecting dust. Genuinely one of the best non-BA, adjunct-free , no nonsense RIS's I've ever had. I think I've seen Vendel in MA too.

Throwing my lot in for clown shoes as well, the various Exorcism's all hold a special place in my heart.

Not sure how readily it is available out-of-state, but Gunner's Daughter by Mast Landing is awesome and usually available at any place that sells craft beer.

For porters - Smutty Robust and Baltic, Founders, Wormtown Pro-Am, Nightshift Bean.

For stouts - Ten Fidy is great, but a bit pricey. Bell's Kalamazoo now that it's available in NE, Brooklyn Black Chocolate, Founders Imperial, Sam Smith Imperial.

Evil Twin Even More Jesus and Imperial Biscotti Break 4-packs. The 4-packs of variants are usually pretty good too. Liked Pecan Pie EMJ and Coco EMJ, but wasn’t crazy about Chili Hazelnut IBB.

Appreciate the recommendations so far. Will admit I’m a dark beer novice.

Curious how you think some of these beers stack up to Single Shot, PM Dawn, or other beers of that ilk.

And if you consider price this one really jumps to the top of the list.

Single Shot, and to a lesser extent PM Dawn, is next level and not what I would categorize as "shelf" stouts/porters.
