Was in Cooperstown, NY. Decided to visit the baseball hall of fame and then go have dinner at Ommegang Brewery. Enjoyed the HOF but when i arrived at Ommegang for beers and dinner...they had closed an hour earlier! Worst experience ever!

A: Ommegang serving dinner must be (relatively) new, because other than snacks at the tasting bar, I've never known them to serve food. Unless it was some sort of special event, in which case, I don't know.

B: Unless you're an ultra-nerd, and spend the full 7 hours in the HoF (I'm only a regular level baseball nerd, so, YMMV), everytime I've hit the HoF at open, I've had plenty of time to hit Ommegang, and Cooperstown Brewing, just down the road in Milford (I've heard they're no longer open, so, shrug, and again, ones mileage varies) before either closes.

My issue has always been, for as many bars and restaurants that Cooperstown has, the taplists and menus are generically those of a tourist town, with a captive audience. More than once, on trips back home, my Dad and I have stopped at several places in town, and while there were things we would have ordered, we were looking for something a bit better. Shrug.

BTW, the Farmers museum and the James Fenimore Cooper house are also worthy stops, if one likes history.

I don't know man. I think you're getting pretty bent out of shape because you let yourself get excited about something that nobody owed you in the first place. "A lack of basic human decency"? I think you need to get over yourself.

They’re very popular, I know they go as far east as the coast. Their beers are always fresh on the shelf too which I find refreshing, so they do turn product over. I’m guessing they have a solid sense on production vs sales. My last trip there I had my first Braggot called Ritual Knife, it was dark beer day, lol I had no idea what that even was but I loved it.

I just got back from Ashville last week. Didn’t even bother with Wicked Weed as I heard too many negative comments. However I did stop at Burial and it was great! If only I could stop at every brewery in Asheville. That town was phenomenal.

Yeah...that about sums up Platform. The worst part is, they used to be amazing. But all of their worthwhile brewers and staff jumped ship early on, and have since started their own awesome establishments in Cleveland.

The worst part is, everyone in the city rides their d*ck like they’re King Shit, and yet they are the poorest representation of the beer we make here, and definitely a poor example of customer service among all breweries here.

I’ll refrain from erupting into an unnecessary tirade.

Needless to say, I agree with you.

My initial reaction to this is that “ignorance and a complete lack of basic human decency” are strong words to describe not getting some merchandise in place of an oxidized beer that you received in a trade.

I’ll give you the “horrible customer service” part, even though I think it’s a bit strong, since they seemed to have just stopped email communication with you.

I was in Asheville last September and I remember walking over to Burial and as I got close just assumed I was in the entirely wrong place cause it didn’t seem like there was any activity going on at all. Then I found it, and needless to say, everything was OK after that.

I think I made it very clear that I don't feel that they owed me anything initially. The point is that they made a promise and once you make a promise, you keep it, simple as that. You do not bullshit people around, making them wait 6 weeks for a box that never got sent.

What's even worse though is that they never even bothered to let me know. It would have been so easy for them to take one minute to write a quick message and they just couldn't be bothered and left me hanging in the air for 6 weeks instead, even after I sent them a message asking about the box, which they simply completely ignored While it may not be a "complete lack of basic human decency" (I do tend to get carried away when I'm angry), it's certainly a complete and utter lack of basic manners.

I've come to expect this kind of behaviour from traders on the internet, but for a professional entity to behave like that is just mind-blowing to me.

Hard to diss a trailblazer, but the brewpub I am talking about is the first in our area. It really did used to have much better beer, this isn't a case of my palate changing. They were well respected back in the day and their regular lineup was solid, well made, nothing fancy beers, and they had seasonal releases that were all very, very good. First they started doing away with or changing up the seasonals, and little by little their beer has gotten worse and worse for years

IMO it is a case of the perfect location for a brewpub, so why bother with making great beer? They are first place you see in town from the west after crossing Wallkill River, have river and mountain view from large deck, have a huge parking area, are across the street from the new artists' mall area, and best of all it's next to the most popular bike path in the county (and I do mean right next to it).

Luckily plenty of great beer in town nowadays, but still miss their Imperial Stout every winter.

I can picture the boss okaying that deal:
"How much did you say shipping that merch to Germany is gonna cost? Fuuuuuuck that!"

Which is why I clearly told them that international shipping is expensive and they needn't bother before they promised me that "stellar" box. Least they could have done is just let me know that they changed their mind.

I actually thought this same thing. Some agreed to do it and then a superior axed it due to the cost?

No kidding right. But they pay a hell of a lot less rent than having a mid downtown operation too. Overhead costs are lower they have a great brewing team that's putting out phenominal beers right across the board. And parking isn't much of a hassle. That place says were about the beer, WW is about the glitz, they had deep pockets before InBev came around too, but it's a great location with average at best beers.and if I don't enjoy dropping $50 there in an afternoon it's not a success to me. I'll gladly go to Buriel and also take home beers that are Asheville only cans.

    Russian River.

They are conflicted about making first class beers AND being a popular place to get drunk in a College Town.

I had to apologize to my WHOLE group for dragging them there from San Jose.
