Union + Stillwater's Dust Rings.

 

Sierra Nevada / Weihenstephan 2018 Oktoberfest bottled on 08/06/18 great brew.

 

Hot weather brew . . .




Taste is a lightly, brightly sparkling combination of mild grain with an emphasis on ripe banana and spicy clove. Nothing heavy handed, but immediately present none the less. Hops don't rise above a murmur but there is that slight sense of floralness in the aftertaste. I also pick up intermittently and in the aftertaste a touch of mild nuttiness. Quite clean and as the brewer says, crisp.

Well, figured we were close enough, might as well see on of the Great Lakes while in MI:


Little boardwalk stroll, apparently the Coast Guard is a fairly big deal here in Grand Haven. Got a few shots for my pops, and here’s a collage and some historic markers.:

And some beer. Completely accidentally and conveniently parked right out front of Odd Side Ales. The GF saw it as I wasn’t even looking for it when we parked. Warm enough out, I went for a Mango Passionfruit fruitsicle for refreshment first:

Alpine Truck Trail Pale Ale 5.5%. Pretty good classic Pale Ale. Good amount of hop flavor and bitterness from Centennial and Cascade. I feel like this is their version of a Sierra Nevada pale ale. It has a hint of Green Flash West Coast IPA. I like it

It's the last day of my abbreviated vacation. Man, is it hot! The major renovations to our house start tomorrow and I took a bunch of "before" photos. It's going to be very disruptive but we can't wait to make the house ours. I'm cooling off now with a NvU in my Jerusalem Lion glass.

Cool. The German beer culture is much more a social occasion as you probably know The 'Stammtisch' is an interesting phenomenon in Germany. Politics and opinions are discussed at these tables rather openly without any limits. A real honor when you're invited to join that table as an outsider. But you have to speak German for that I'm afraid. Happened to me once. In the south of Bavaria of all places
