Thus far I have gotten and been impressed by all of the beer that I have picked up from this gypsy brewer- Imperial Biscotti Break, Auld Yin, Lil' B, and Yin. However, for being as new as they are, they sure are charging out the ass, sometimes at over $1 per ounce. And on top of that, they are cutting down bottle sizes from 12 oz. to 11.2 or something like that. It just bothers me that I can buy a trappist brew- some of the most well crafted beers in the world for cheaper than I can get one from this new kid on the block. Thoughts??

Par for the course. These gypsy brewers are gypsies. Mikkeller overcharges for their garbage as well.

I'm not much of a "gypsy" brewer fan either.
I'd rather spend my $12 on 72oz of a proven product than somebody's 12oz experiment.

I will not pay $8 for a pint of pale ale brewed at Westbrook. Enough said about Evil Twin.

Small batch gypsy brewed import by a new brewery from an expensive region - you're gonna pay out the ass for that.

The Trappist breweries are highly-tuned long-time operations with low overhead and are just selling the beer to support their lifestyles. They are really cheap, and the majority of their still reasonable US costs are just middleman markup and import costs. Chimay is only going to cost you $1 and change in Belgium vs the $5-$6 in the US...

Point being - you're comparing apples to oranges.

I paid 10.99 for a 12OZ bottle of Even More Jesus, I paid 36.00 for two bombers of Imperial Biscotti Break haven't had time to try either but if I don't like I will drop Evil Twin like a bad habit!!

Do you like any beer/brewery that is generally highly regarded? So far I've seen you trash Heady Topper, BCBS and a few others. Just curious.

I've only tried to Yang and Hop Flood and while being impressed, I just think the cost is way to steep.

Good stuff but I can easily have equal or better brews for half the cost in most cases. I don't mind paying for good brews but at some point price does become a factor.

For $12/$13 for a bomber, I better have my socks blown off.

They make some amazing beers, but they're a little rich for my blood.

Where did I trash HT? Just because I think it's over-hyped doesn't mean I don't love it. I like many beers and breweries that are highly regarded...

IBB was amazing and I would argue worth the $15 to try when stuff like Southern Tier's blackwater series is $10-$11 around here and IBB blows it away. It's not the kind of beer I'd buy a case of though. It seems like some of these gypsy brewers put out a few great brews along with their share of duds and underwhelming beers for the price though so you have to do a little due diligence before buying.

$16 for a six-pack of APA is obscene. Does he really think the US market will pay that?

There's nothing wrong with comparing apples to oranges.

If apples are going to be priced 5-10x the price they are charging for oranges. . .

People are going to buy more oranges.

    Like brother like....brother, lol.

I have no problem with either Bjergso brothers' brews, and Mikkel's BGBW is one of the best stouts I've had to date. Who knows if it isn't partly the distributors fault?

It pains me to say this... Jeppe is one of the nicest guys I have ever met in the beer industry... but I cannot bring myself to buy his beers with the high price points they have and given the fact that they are not all consistantly great. I enjoyed the Disco Beer but I wouldn't call it great. The Soft Dukie was middle of the road at best. Sometimes I feel like the euro-gypsy brewers do too many different beers. It's tough to sort through them and determine what is good and what isn't. 8-12 dollars for a 12 oz beer is very steep in my opinion. The beer better be amazing all the time at that price point. I can get 64 oz of Jack's Abby for 9.99 or a Struise Pannepot 11.2 oz for 6.99$ and both of those I know are gonna be great all the time.

haha... It's not like brother like brother. Jeppe and Mikkel are two totally different people. At least based on my experiences with them. The about only thing that is simular between them is that they are twins and gypsy brewers.

For me Mikkeller is much worse than Evil Twin. I have heard rumors that Mikkel doesn't even brew all his beers personally. Litterally mailing them in. I have had a few of his beers that were not just bad but gross. Mikkeller is also at an even steeper price point than Evil Twin by me. 16-18 for a 500 ML Beer Geek Breakfast? UGH.

Imperial Biscotti is one of the few beers he makes that I would drop the money on. It's truly an outstanding beer, and his best stout IMO.
