Putting this out there since I tried so hard to get a bottle and couldn't get one, but finally got around to sipping a bottle:

I don't see why anyone would trade more than double $4$ on this, and that's only because it was put out two years ago and hasn't been made since. While I did not have this fresh and could only imagine it was amazing then, it's very hard to say at this point that it is any better than any other BCBS. I'm glad that this was a gift and I didn't shell out some serious beers to get it. I was actually thinking about sending this one out as an extra, but since I had never tried it, I needed to see what the hype was about.

I can see why people would trade big beers for a Blabaer due to shipping, customs, etc... but beers like CBS and Rare really don't seem worth it. Maybe I'm just killing vibes here, but for all the beers I've offered up for a bottle of Rare BCBS, I'm glad that I sipped them instead.

It's hard to blame someone for hanging out to one, because there are a lot of dummies out there with deep cellars looking to throw out a bunch of beers for a bottle, but what do I know?

Is it really worth trading over $4$ for any beer? I mean, I don't think that you're going to get multiple times the enjoyment of any rare beer compared with shelf beers. That's not really the point.

I'm not sure there is *any* beer out there that is actually worth $50 for a 22oz bottle, nevermind $100+. (Maybe something resealable like Utopias or Xyauyu, but those are different balls of wax...) IMO, $30-ish seems to be the upper limit of what something exemplary might be worth paying for.

In the end it's all hype and the craving to trade for and/or tick rarities.

People trade over $4$ all the time. Not just Rare, but for 09 BT too, which is better than Rare. In the end, people give what they are comfortable giving up, and both parties most of the time get what they want.

Really, the only reason I said over $4$ was because it was brewed once and had a high MSRP. Unfortunately, there's not enough decent people out there that would trade a Rare BCBS $4$.

Anytime a beer comes less available or old, the price tag is pretty much forgotten. $4$ really only should apply to readily accessable beer, or beers of matching rarity (even if that).

In my opinion, Rare is worth it. I had a 4oz pour and now it's haunted my dreams since. I'd gladly go over $4$ to land one. I've tried as part of a larger trade to get Rare a couple times, but it has eluded me. Soon I will get one. Once you try Rare, you want more Rare...bad. That's what I think anyway.

So you finally acquired a highly rated and sought-after beer, (just to see what all the hype was), you drank said beer and were disappointed? That's never happened before....

I was so hyped too have CBS when my best friend opened his bottle, was a serious let down. I prefure KBS over it. I have no intentions seeking out rare, though I love bcbs It doesnt seem it to be worth the beers you have to give up.

Once you try the blabaers of the world you may disagree. If you step back a little and compare mega whales to their much easier to obtain cousins (lou pepe / lamvinous / etc.) it's always a pretty stupid idea to trade for the whales from a pure logic standpoint. However, tracking down & trying whales is fun, which is why I participate in something that is logically pretty stupid.

This. Whales, bro hunting is more about the sport to most, if not all, people than it is about the actual taste of the beer. Yes, it's a long-standing joke on BA that taste doesn't matter in the trade forums, but there's more than a dash of truth to it.

All that said, Brabantiae was fucking mind blowing. :grinning:

Yeah, I don't think anyone contests that it's really good, but rather that it's 3x better than a four-pack of BCBS '12. And I think most reasonable people would agree that it's not. But if you really want to pay 3x as much for something that's like 20% better, then go ahead! Sometimes that's fun.

Probably should! I've never quite gotten what the price of Rare was, I feel like I heard everything from $40 to $70. That's more variation that 'loons have!
