Hit up Brain Dead Brewing in Deep Ellum today, burgers and a few beers.
They had 29 of their own beers on tap.

Cervesa Oscura (Mexican Dark lager)

Gemutlich (Oktoberfest)

Frog IPA (100% Simcoe)...very nice!

 

For the first time ever I’m having a Modern Times Orderville hazy mosaic ipa. 7.2% abv and very well done San Diego!

 

This one is brewed by Center of the Universe in Ashland, VA. Another great brewery within the Richnond area.

 

Time to change things up. Scratch that, it's fresh hop season. That would be stupid. Time for an Eliot side by side throwdown, @cjgiant style. (Eliot canned 8-6. Fresh Hop Eliot canned 9-7.)



Eliot pours along the lines of light orange and relatively clear while Fresh Hop Eliot seems a little lighter yellow and much cloudier with a much bigger white fluff of a head.

Eliot has a sugary and tangerine forward aroma. FH Eliot is much more weedy and even a little vegetal along with a less pronounced citrus. Both have notes of wet pine in the finish.

Along with the aroma, Eliot has a a strong citrus presence along with a sweet and simple sugary graininess. FH Eliot has a bit of an oniony bite to it and much brighter notes of weed.

Eliot is well balanced and has a finish that escalates to a very high sense of dryness with a mild bitterness. FH Eliot is smoother with a sticky finish and a slightly heavier bitterness which is just perfect.

Fresh Hop Eliot wins in every field, which I was not expecting. And I'm a fan of regular Eliot, so I'm pretty happy right now. Im sure the month of canned date difference plays a factor here, but I'm not sure how much. Cheers!

One of Barrier’s original IPAs, their rye IPA, and it is damn tasty. A little dank, a lotta rye. Very good, I could drink this in about a minute.

 

Had this roughly forty years ago when I was overseas. Saw it and had to revisit. Not the worst beer but the single I bought will probably be the last time.

 

Long work day — time for a few beers.
