Good morning, all. As expected, I can't sleep, so I'm going to cut right into the coffee with a classic.

Just finished a late breakfast with Mrs. Z. She has returned to bed...today may be a stay at “home” day. Trappist Westvleteren 12:

The sun is trying to poke its head out from the clouds; otherwise, it’s grey, windy and about 61 degrees at noon here...I’m going to hang some wet laundry...Cheers and have a great Friday!

Not a big fan of spiced beers, but that looks so beautiful I want to try it.

Clear light gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of mild sweet malt and floral hops.

Taste is mild to mid malt with a spicy kick from the hops. Some elements of yeast bread and fresh hay with a dry, crisp finish.

    Liight-mediuum texture with balancing carbonation.

Clean, pleasant take on a food and company friendly lager.

    Good morning BA
Finally broke down and grabbed a $5/4 pack of these. Very nice.

Definitely deserves better than its 3.6 rating here. I assumed ratings were low because of the old green bottles, but there are sub 3 reviews on the front page. Twice the character of an AAL at 4.4% ABV. Sign me up. Cheers all!

Slight advantage to 19, which surprised me.

Stone Ruination from Berlin. Not over-exited yet by these Berlin versions from Stone. Still very good of-course. But it's like something is missing. I probably have to get used to the fresher taste

The wife rallied (she had a pedicure appt. in town) so we walked off the hill and I found the only local craft beer bar (so I am told) and had a couple of half pints. Now back at the ranch trying BrewDog’s “Elvis Juice”, a grapefruit infused IPA:

Thin body, but grapefruity! A little bitter zest, but mostly watered down grapefruit juice. In a pinch, I’d drink again (6.5%) and it’s cheap enough at the grocer - L 1.85/ 330ml.

Earlier this afternoon - “Yu Lu” a session ale on cask, from Siren Craft Beers.

Strong Grapefruit nose. However, the lite citrus taste is overwhelmed by strong floral/herbal hop taste; not bitter, just off-putting cooked veggies...pity, the look and nose were so inviting...

Hoboken Brewing - Hoboken DDH DIPA

This is the second beer (and second IPA) I’ve had from this small brewery and I’ve thoroghly enjoyed both beers. It is 8% and drinks easily, but not too much so. Focused on tropical fruit flavors, but also has nice grapefruit citrus and peach without being too sweet. Features some dryness, and just enough alcohol to add flavor that nicely complements the hops and malt profile. Very good stuff.

Clear light yellow gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet malt and new mown hay.

Taste is a somewhat simple combination of malt with floral, spicy hops. These are good flavors well intertwined consisting mostly of bready malt with light yeasty touches all sprinkled with hop spicing.

    Light-medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall it's a good stab at the Pilsner style incorporating spicy, floral hops into a solid malt base. Should make a good companion for food and other purposes.
