I hear what you are saying here, and for the most part I agree with you. However, mentioning the NRA is getting too far off topic IMJ. Believe me, I am a teacher, so have have many reasons to dislike the NRA.

In my judgement, it's not the organizations that you mention though that are the real problem: the core problem is with the system itself by allowing said organizations to do what they do.

Lobbying . . . the cause of all our problems as a country.

I'm glad to read that. I wish them continued success in what they do.

In all honesty, I am biased towards not liking AB-InBev. This is something I am aware of, and I chose to separate out the different players at the event (the individual breweries AB-InBev bought out, and the corporate entity of AB-InBev itself). I didn't see them all as employees of AB (although technically they are). Among other things, I wanted to experience, first hand, how the employees of those breweries were going to interact with me and with others around me. I chose to look at them as individual people, rather then simply as part of the larger corporate entity that is AB-InBev. These days we seem to get to caught up in who's on the 'good' team and who's on the 'bad' team, myself included.

I'm not naive about how AB-InBev is impacting the world of beer. AND, I chose to see the people working at the event as individuals--some just there for a paycheck (no problem with that), some there to pass on their passion for what they are a part of, and most people somewhere in between.

Why not? If it's deserved then it is what it is, they're not the boogeyman.

Oh definitely not. Not even close. My point was that some people do find them to be the worst literal organization on the planet (see: any thread on beer reddit). Just trying to make sure those people find some parallels. Stay woke.

They are neither the boogeyman, nor are they fair or transparent players on the field of beer. If you have any questions about why I judge they don't play fair, let me know, and I would be happy to elaborate.

They answer to their stockholders, their business is beer and making money, I get it they leverage distributors who leverage bars by the pricing. But they hit their target market better than anyone else in the business, how else can you explain the enormous volume for selling Bud Light? That is really a crap beer, but they sell more on it than the other top 5 combined I'd guess.

It's not difficult to purchase and own a gun in America, even convertible AR-15s that can be made fully automatic. It is not that difficult. I love guns, but no longer own one. I had a favorite Walther P-38 German officer's pistol taken from a German officer near the end of the war by a girlfriend's dad. It was fantastic, accurate, heavy, and lethal. I also had a Mauser that was very well made and highly accurate. I gave it away when I had kids. I kept a .22 for years and gave it away also. No one is trying to take anyone's guns away and we are armed to the teeth. Too many guns and too many hotheads is the swamp in which we swim. Now, the beer lobby..............

Well, at least you used the word 'beer' once!

Seriously though, what do you think about the beer lobby?

But that's what they're doing. Targeting those who have no clue about "craft" beer is one of their goals.

So, correct me if I'm wrong. Are you saying, in essence, the ends (selling a crap-load of crappy beer) justify the means (leverage distributors who leverage bars by the pricing)?

Well ya, their Bud Light commercial says made for the masses not the the few. I hate Bud Light, but I'd love to be on the receiving end of the cash that it takes in. This isn't a mom and pop thing anymore, it's big business who's business is to make money selling beer. It doesn't even have to be good beer, and that's their trick. They're targeting they're demographic, and they're killing it, I can't hate them for being successful.

Not sure how anyone could have a problem with a beer fest that was free to drink at, free parking. And had BCBS on tap.

But craft isn’t the word anymore. It’s “independent” that we care about now isn’t it? Wicked Weed, Devils Backbone, 10 Barrel, and so on? I’ve had dozens of beers by these places that are good. Here’s the thing: I can read and be an informed consumer.

We can start with “well yeah that’s because you care about beer.” Sure, that’s true, but I don’t care about the real estate world or the seedy underbelly of the encyclopedia world, but if I were dabbling in either, I’d make sure I was informed.

If I'm a major stock holder yep, it's not illegeal to use your volume to your advantage, they just use beer as their product. If I'm a craft bar, I sell the best beers I can get and ones my customers want. There's plenty of successful bars and breweries who first don't sell AALs of any type. Sales and marketing is rarely fair to the little guy, they're trying to squeeze the shit out of it. I don't mind it to be honest, I buy what I want and I guarentee you it's not Bud Light even if was a freebie. Even those Craft breweries who sold started out with a vision, it was either not sustainable, or the cash offer too much. So we as patrons shouldn't be all that upset, they're not.

Op, you mention most of their beers as mediocre. Do you believe those beers even need to be made available to everyone? I don't need another four peaks, elysian, Karbach, or golden road to stink up my town and mix in with real craft beer. Lines are being blurred and that event sounds like a perfect way to do that.

Did they make it known they own every one of those Breweries, Breweries that try to have their own identifies? I've had a four peaks and maybe one Karbach and Gi once in awhile but I don't necessarily see any of these as essentially breweries for my area. They aren't adding anything new or better, for the most part.

If this was close to me and I was not scheduled to work I would go. I want to taste a lot of the beers AB bought out. This would be a great way to try them. If they were good and priced well I would buy them.

Since the local brewers do not do anything for me except take my money I have zero loyalty( since I dont buy their beer due to price I guess I never had loyalty). I buy the beers I like that are priced the best, 4x16 at $18+ is not priced well.

If AB could make a great IPA, brown ale or other styles and sell it for $6-8 a six pack im in all day.

    enjoy
