I actually do have a problem with any beer that's too boozy, BA or not. It defeats the purpose of beer and is a sign of poor craftsmanship. For someone that professes to brew beer, you should be the first to know I'm not exactly alone on that.

A beer that emulates flavors of citrus and pillowy texture of frothed up juice all via water, malt, hops and yeast? Kudos and more power to those brewers.

If by skill, you mean a local Walmart and a will to go grocery shopping therein for Chips Ahoy!, Reese's Puffs and Cadbury Creme Eggs.

Being such a master ciceroney brewer extraordinaire, I'm sure you're completely aware of the fact that one can emulate dessert flavors in beer without adding a 50 gallon dumpheap of Oreo cookie fudgesicle goop.

You're going to great lengths to defend these bottles of insulin resistant inducing sugar bombs that don't resemble beer in any sense of the word. They are dessert slime with no indication they were ever beer to begin with.

I'll grant you, some beers do well to introduce those that hate beer to the beverage, but this kind of nonsense completely warps anyone's sense of understanding of the term. It's pitiful for anyone that professes to love craft beer to fawn all over this hilarious debacle of a fad, or to have any other kind of positive response besides considering it a mildly entertaining, if not ostentatious, novelty phase.

If you're truly in such need of ingesting your desserts via liquid, there are far easier ways to do it. But stop pretending you actually support and enjoy craft beer, especially when it comes to stout, if you're going to praise brand new and yet still non-existent breweries popping up right off the bat selling pastry batter as if it's an All Time Top 5 stout. That's such a desperate parody of parodies at this point.

I never praised this brewery specifically. I never praised this beer nor had it. But to right off say that 3 sons or breweries like them are garbage is a little extreme and just pure ignorance. Hate to say it but beers like Handjee and MD have been around for a long time. You talk as if it’s a new trend for brewers to use heavy adjuncts in beer. I guess everyone that enjoys these beers must not enjoy craft beer. I personally don’t enjoy many beers and styles. Doesnt mean they are trash. It’s just my opinion.

Hard to take you seriously when you have KBBS, Handjee, Chemtrailmix, and various vintages of French Vanilla Militia as some of your highest rated beers on the site.

That and the fact that you sound like you're trying to your best DDB impression.

    3 Sons is garbage, unequivocally.

Based on first hand experience with all of the above.

If you can't tell the difference between some of my higher rated stouts and the junk coming out of 3 Sons, JWB, Moksa and Three Chiefs, then that just further solidifies my point you really shouldn't be offering your opinion about stout at all.

The quality, consistency and renown of FFF and TG are well established with countless thousands of reviews across multiple forms of media, all of the internet, and beyond.

We're talking about hypeboys making non-breweries based on the fantasies of a pre-diabetic centered around Dirt Cups. It's a damn pathetic shame and they can't produce a desireable beer without said "beer" containing more add-junks than beer ingredients.

Oh i can tell the difference. I also have an appreciation for both styles. Since when does reputation/how well known the brewery is change the fact of how the beer was brewed? Don’t they still use a shit ton of adjuncts which can mask from the base of the beer? Which is the whole base of your argument. Why would you rate these beers high if you dislike them so much? Because they are reputable? Makes a lot of sense.

What..."styles"...are you comparing here? Throwing a bunch of liquefied confection into a style does not a separate style make.

It makes for a sweet enough beverage that's acceptable to people like you that do not actually enjoy traditional flavors imparted by actual beer ingredients.

I'm not professing that the select add-junk heavy beers I've rated highly are some of the best beers ever made. Hell, a number my ratings for the flavored beers I've rated highly are far below the average. However, for a stout with extra vanilla beans added aged in bourbon barrels, Handjee is the best of its particular subset. And DL is hardly masked by any of the variant treatments, aside from the ridiculous cardamom and chile versions. In Handjee, the barrel adds a substantially perceptible charred element while the vanilla adds a rich marshmallow flavor that lifts a base stout that already had years of acclaim as a first of its kind to new heights. Dark Lord is still readily and amply all over the palate along side those characteristics.

Nowadays, the sweetness of Dark Lord gives it a ding amongst the old guard, but if that same beer were released by another brewery under a different name today, while listing the flavoring additions that FFF uses in its base version, the pastry hoard would raise bloody hell that they can't taste the coffee or vanilla. Frankly, the funniest part is that gloppy shit ain't even close to sweet enough for that crowd.

Surely you've noticed that my highest rated beer, and my standard, is an unflavored RIS.

    It's Indiana. So, yep!

Actually, I don't think I visited this forum until about 2 weeks ago. I saw an ISO: Faha, with someone offering SR-71. I googled, because I was like "whose dropping SR-71 with such confidence!?". Found the DDB post and this thread. Then everything unfolded. Glad I found it.

Hate to bring this thread back, but it's the only one we have.

Anyone hit the PIFA event at Toronado and try the stout they had on? COCO's sounds great, curious about the Barrel Theory collab as well.

I did. Coco was good but not great. More maple to me than coconut but not a ton of either. Medium body. I think after all raving about FAHA had me expecting to be blown away and it just wasn’t that level of a beer. Still good though.

The barrel theory collab on the other hand was not that good in my book. With fudge in the name I was expecting chocolate and thickness but all I got was bitter roasty coffee and it was also kind of thin. Again, not horrible, but just felt like it didn’t hit the description and was the least favorite of the 4 stouts I tried (Cinn Papa Bui > Coco > Baby Blammo > Island Fudge).

This and your previous posts are the absolute best anti-pastry/adjunct/garbage rant I have read in a long time.

If we ever meet in real life, beer's on me.
