So obviously we all like to enjoy drinking a nice cold one. But where do you guys usually go when you want something a little crafty. Do you go for the beers on tap, the food, the ambiance, women, etc? Tell us a little about where and why.

My personal favorites are Eli Cannons (Middletown, CT.) and Armsby Abbey (Worcester, MA.).

Anyone from CT (or possibly even beyond) who enjoys Craft Beer will probably know about Eli Cannons, I used to live one town over and would frequent this bar multiple times a week. Enjoying the food and the constant rotating tap list. The ambiance is amazing and it's nestled in a good spot on the Middletown strip (Few other great craft bars around as well). If you should up in the warmer months you can enjoy the back patio with enclosed "beach" while you consume your wares. I am a little biased though since I have been going here for damn near 7 years and have a mug up on the wall.

Armsby is also a great spot that seems to get a constantly rotating tap list of amazing brews. I was lucky enough to attend the second day of their Stout Fest this year and damn they had some amazing brews from the country (even some from across the pond). The food is always amazing the place just has a great vibe to it.

What about you guys? I am always interested in trying new spots.

I don’t get out as much as I used to, this is a fine place to have some beers.
Lots of history, an old world look to the inside plus a modern outside area.
Plenty of eye candy, decent food and prices plus my favorite local IPA on tap, Be Hoppy by Wormtown.

I'll be lazy and say Conley's in Watertown, MA. I can walk there in 5 minutes and they almost always have Fiddlehead IPA on tap, and usually have Second Fiddle as well.

Three Penny Taproom is my favorite beer bar by far. They have the most well thought-out draft list. Diverse styles, the occasional vintage surprise, and tons of Hill Farmstead. The food is incredible as well.

Fogg Bar Birras and Cheese -- Madrid. Yeah wrong continent/forum, but it's where I live now. And, hey, if any of you head to Madrid, go there, and if I'm there too, and you happen to engage me in conversation, and the conversation is mostly fun, sometimes in that situation I offer a beer. Other times I offer a wine, but that's mostly when the other person wants wine and not beer. Mostly.

    - Publick House, Brookline, MA -- I've had innumerable excellent beers here, watching the Green Line go up and down the slope outside
    - Cambridge Brewing Company, Cambridge, MA -- my all-time favorite for excellent beer, food and patio
    - Eli Cannon's, Middletown, CT -- the only thing better than the whacky interior is the "beach" out back
    - Strange Brew Tavern, Manchester, NH -- my favorite old haunt whenever I'm back home
    - Novare Res and Great Lost Bear, Portland, ME -- I love visiting both of these places when in Portland -- good, but different beer and spaces at both
    - Brewer's Fork, Boston, MA -- excellent pizza and beer to match
    - Schilling, Littleton, NH -- world-class non-IPA beer in a 200-year-old grist mill
    - Black Birch, Kittery, ME -- I love sitting at the bar with a good record playing while drinking a fine beer
    - Toad, Cambridge, MA -- best place for local music and beer
    - Atwood's, Cambridge, MA -- there was a time when I could put up with hangovers every Tuesday that I'd be there for bluegrass every Monday night
    - Ebenezer's, Lovell, ME -- nothing like an excellent Belgian beer sitting out on the porch with Fats Waller playing
    - American Flatbread / Zero Gravity, Burlington, VT -- again good beer, pizza and a nice vibe

Interesting, I wouldn't think I'd see the upscale Millwright's listed as a "watering hole". I assume you're talking about the Tavern downstairs. What knocks it out of "favorite" contention for me is the limited tap selection and the "cozy" atmosphere often means crowded and a homogeneous crowd at that. But yeah, real nice place to hang out when you can find a place to sit.

I really can't think of a favorite on this side of the mountain, we usually end up at Red Stone Pub by default but the lack of food would knock it out of this race.

For me it is Blackback in Waterbury. I've been there solo, with friends, with wife, with brother-in-law, with kids ... middle of afternoon, pre-dinner, dinner, late night ... and every time, I think to myself how much I enjoyed it. (This is nothing against the food and the expansion) but I actually liked it a little better when it was smaller and didn't have as robust a menu. You really felt like you were at home (with a much better tap list). Still is great now, though. I was there two weeks ago and was taken back to remembering how much I like visiting.

Used to be Redbones, but the tap list has gone down hill over the years.

Olde Magoun's in Somerville is the one for me. Been there three times in the last three weeks...killer place for Oktoberfest beer.

Awesome food, good tap list with the occasional gem but also solid imports, and probably the best place to watch sports in the Somerville/Cambridge area.

Conley's does have a decent tap list with good prices too. My issue with them (esp within the past year) is that they don't seem to clean their lines often enough and only a few bartenders know how to pour a proper pint with a decent head. It's about a 6 minute walk for me...
