I’ve got one more new one to squeeze in tonight and it’s my first Brut IPA, courtesy of @TongoRad- Industrial Arts Week 104-

Look- clear, pale golden color; looks like a pilsner. Fluffy white head and sheets of lacing

Aroma- citrus and dank weed along with a hint of light, grainy malt

Taste- dank weed, citrus, white grape juice and light graininess along with the slightest hint of bitterness in the finish

Feel- light bodied with moderate carbonation and a very dry finish

Overall- Very full flavored IPA that is surprisingly refreshing despite it's 7% ABV

Cheers NBS folks, wish I had time to join in the shenanigans more often! Hope everyone's having a killer Sunday.

2017 bottle, blend of brandy aged barleywine and bourbon aged stout. Super boozy, sweet and sugary, bitter chocolate, a touch of raisin and date, plenty of barrel character. Silky, oily mouthfeel that coats the tongue and remains. Pleasant carbonation despite minimal appearance of bubbles. Strong ales with some alcohol heat are some of my absolute favorite beers to experience so this is a real treat. A delicious sipper.

Had this one as well courtesy of @LloydDobler thank you Chris for this one!

Black pour with minimal tan head.
Very busy nose on this one, roasty malt, clove, ginger when served. As it warmed maple, cinnamon, and toffee notes prevailed. Rum present throughout.
Taste follows roasted malts, spices, chocolate. As it warmed the molasses and maple came through as well reminding of a spiced bread.
Full bodied stout here, a swirl shows this ones has some legs. I like legs.
Overall a tasty one that had a lot going on with the adjuncts but it all worked out.

Happy New @CanConPhilly Beer Sunday (Week 709), CANtinued!

    The Five Act Structure
The five act structure expands the classical divisions and can be overlaid on a traditional plot diagram, as it follows the same five parts. Shakespearean plays especially are known for following this structure.

In the illustration above, the narrative arc of the Plot Diagram is between the Five Act Structure (top) and Aristotle’s divisions (bottom).

Format of a Five Act Structure
    Act 1: The Exposition
Here, the audience learns the setting (Time/Place), characters are developed, and a conflict is introduced.

    Act 2: Rising Action
The action of this act leads the audience to the climax. It is common for complications to arise, or for the protagonist to encounter obstacles.

    Act 3: The Climax
This is the turning point of the play. The climax is characterized by the highest amount of suspense.

    Act 4: Falling Action
The opposite of Rising Action, in the Falling Action the story is coming to an end, and any unknown details or plot twists are revealed and wrapped up.

    Act 5: Denouement or Resolution
This is the final outcome of the drama. Here the authors tone about his or her subject matter is revealed, and sometimes a moral or lesson is learned.

Well, we learned some things today at CKW2ndG - 1) It is SLOW on Sundays since the owners do not want TV monitors installed & 2) the manager/bartender will not hesitate to make me first cut when it is that slow. No problem. I had a post-shift beer & cleared out, stopping off at a local on the way home for another & then a nap once I returned home. Now, it is back to the important business of the day, CANtinuing with act Two:

It is with great regret that we announce that GEN Woody of the U.S. Space Force died in the previous act! His memoirs indicate that today was one of his finest moments upon the prestigious stage of NBS & his much anticipated finale in Act V of tonight's play will be undertaken by his understudy, Doug, while the duty undertaker undertakes a duty of his own. A duty will be collected from all in attendance this evening as you exit in support of his survivors & we thank you for your kind indulgence & underCANding in this moment of solemnity. Peace be with you as it is for everyone involved in today's production.

Without further ado, ladies & gentlemen, we present Doug to deliver the closing soliloquy for Act V:
Alas, Bro./GEN Woody! I knew him well from fests hither & yon! He was a well-traveled fellow filled with infinite jest and willing to pose for a a thousand photos & now his lips grow cold. Stabb'd by the traitorious Senate, including his BFFL, Brutus; quaff'd of poisonous NEIPAs; run through in a sword fight & given the ignominous end of being paraded through town with his sever'd head on a pike, he was forever one of us! Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar!

Hooray! I actually get to contribute a few beers for NBS tonight. How rare but fortunate. Regrettably, I'm relatively sure I'll be the final contributor to this thread.

Because of today's unseasonably chilly weather, I'll start out NBS with a stout.

L: Pitch black with a large creamy light brown head. Medium retention. A thin film sticks around, leaving sheets of lacing.

S: Dark chocolate, burnt toast, soy sauce, toffee, burnt raisin, prune.

T: Cocoa, dark chocolate, burnt toast, caramel, and some plum and raisin. A hint of soy sauce, though not as much as the nose. A nice mild lingering burnt/roasted bitterness.

F: Medium, well carbonated. A bit thinner than expected, but fairly smooth. Waters out a bit near the finish.

O: A solid oatmeal stout. Drinkable, aromatic, and quite flavorful. And a good value at $9.99 for four pints.

Finally trying this incredible coffee stout after years of searching! Extremely coffee forward--rich and roasty, even with smoky and peppery notes. Also lots of cocoa, chocolate, burnt toast and brown sugar. It finishes decidedly bitter, and lingers for a long time.

L: Pitch black with a foamy light brown head. Good retention. Spotty lacing is left behind.

S: Intense coffee, bordering on green pepper/chipotle. Subtle smoke. Dark chocolate, cacao, burnt toast, mild alcohol warmth.

T: Big pop of bitter chocolate, burnt toast, and burnt sugar upfront. Followed immediately by waves of coffee. First fresh coffee grounds, and then green pepper vegetal flavors, chili pepper spice, and wood smoke. The bitterness and roast lingers, with a subtle warmth going down.

F: Medium-plus--not creamy, thick, or chewy, but smooth and slick. Well carbonated. Leaves the palate slightly sticky.

O: A world-class imperial coffee stout. Perfect for those who prefer bitter stouts.
