What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2169

Good Morning and Happy Friday BA!
Getting the weekend started off with a banger!..Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout (2017)..cheers!!

 

Late check in from my current time zone, but capping off a hard week of work on site with a large Asahi and a margarita pizza.

Time to pack up for a loooooong day of travel tomorrow. Nearly 16 hours in the air and 9 hours in airports. Yikes. I'll need a helluva a lot more of this stuff.

Getting geared up on this fine Friday morning. Gonna be a high of 82 today which in some parts of the Country might be considered hot but for us is merely warm . . .





Light yellow color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of tropical citrus hops. This is not a pungent aroma but is dense enough to cover up the grain.

Taste of earthy, herbal, tropical citrus fruits and a touch of pine. Rather complex array of flavors that work well together. As in the scent, grain flavor is notable by it's absence. Low bitterness (18 IBU) that finishes clean and refreshing.

Thin texture with balancing carbonation.

It's as if they took their lightest beer and added a whopping amount of hops, comparatively speaking. The hop flavors are good and do elevate this ale above Shiner's usual offering, but that's no excuse for the lack of malt and watered down texture.

 

I wasn’t gonna have one but, I’m a little more awake than I should be so a little one-and-done before a nap won’t hurt. Magic Green Nuggets by Other Half, a DIPA considered one of OH’s worst, and I guess people are frickin spoiled but this tastes great to me. Maybe because it actually tastes like a beer. Nice hit of fluffy citrus, and maybe it’s the cascade, but it’s got just the right sweetness on the finish. Happy Friday, BA!

First snow and 35º this morning. Melting almost as fast as it comes down.

My winter pants from last year don't fit. I need to lose some weight because this is frustrating me to no end. I think a break from booze would really help so that starts tomorrow? Anyway clear some old craft beer stock out today so when I do take my break all I'll really have to worry about is how well Hamms ages. Now to go get some breakfast.

 

Last one of these. IPA's before breakfast? Stupid idea. An hour till noon and I have $5 in my wallet. Tacos? I am thinking of trying this intermittent fasting thing

 

Simple lunch with strong brew . . .



Nice gold color with bountiful white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of piney, citrusy hops that are clean, fresh and inviting.

Taste is a good deal more malt forward than I was expecting. It's a rich malt, slightly caramely, full bodied in it's own right and stands equal in height to the hops. The hop combination is intriguing, not only is it multi flavored the flavor streams flow together, weaving in and out, one singing a bit more loudly yet quickly replaced by another yet all in harmony. An impressive display of talent here. I expect large hoppiness in a double IPA yet this team of hops all pull together while at the same time displaying almost a restraint as if we all know where we're going and there's no hurry to get there. Complex and well made.

Full texture with balancing carbonation.

Remarkably smooth for such a powerful brew, this well may be the pick of the pack.
