“Home” now and distracted only by drying laundry. The sun is dropping, as is the temperature, so another new to me beer today - a freshie from of all places, Barcelona, Spain (canned 9/13/18) - Garage Beer Company’s “Dreamlining”, a 4.2% APA:

Pours a murky deep gold; fastfizzy white head; loose rocky ring; spotty lace only upon swirl after a quick cap. 3.75

Lemony peaches, semi sweet fruity nose. 3.5

Lite bitter oniony lemon rind; tangerine, peach, melon notes as it warms. 3.75

Lite watery body; lite carbonation; lite juicy feel and lite astringency. 3.5

Overall, it looks like grapefruit juice; it’s thin, but juicy enough with an interesting combo of fruit flavors, with a bitter linger. I’d drink again...

Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout, 12.7% ABV. Pours black with a slight ring of tan head. Nose is bourbon, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Taste follows with coffee and bourbon up front, and a moderate bitter close. Mouthfeel is excellent, overall outstanding.

At my son's place, cooking up cheeseburger soup and getting ready for the Packers game.

    Good morning, NBS!

I like the theme @lordofthewiens and thank you for getting us started. I've been a dog person for as long as I can recall. My family got our first dog when I was seven years old - a German shepherd - and we've had dogs on and off since then. Currently, I have a mixed breed who has been with me since I adopted him in 2015 - his name is Samwise Shedbeast (he sheds pretty heavily throughout the whole year) and he's probably 5-8 years old. I believe he came to Minnesota from Arkansas or Alabama? I have his papers buried in a file somewhere, but it's just a lot of speculation, basically - nothing definite.

But he's definitely a handsome fella.

While my house is pretty tiny, I have a gigantic yard, and Sam likes having other dogs around - so I've fostered on and off in the last couple of years. Much as I like to travel, committing to a second dog has been a tough choice. And I have custody of my dad's dog pretty often as well, when he's traveling or just visiting. She's a sweetheart, but if you've had a chocolate lab... well, that whole "meth lab" meme is sort of accurate. Chocolates are just a crazy mess of energy like 90% of the time.

    This is Coby:

I continue to consider another dog, and what sort of dogs I'll get in the future... but man, it really poses some challenges with work travel and vacations and whatnot. My beercations aren't Sam's favorite form of travel, sadly!

Onward to beer. Starting a bit early today as I've got plenty of chores to knock out. This beer comes courtesy of @akatz821 and a nice little box he sent me way about a week ago. I haven't had a ton of Other Half, but Azi and I share a love of sours - and I'm quite excited to try these. First off, Mmm... Fruit.

I like the color on this beer - it has that lightly hazy consistency that many wheat beers have, with just a bit more orange to the hue. There is plenty of fruit to the nose, mostly citrus notes but the passionfruit isn't completely muted. The taste has no real surprises - lots of orange and pineapple, with some less-present passionfruit. It's a fairly acidic beer with lots of tartness, slightly dry, starting and finishing pretty crisply and cleanly.

Not too bad at all - I like it. Thank you again for this beer, Azi!

Back later. Have a great Sunday, NBS!

    Synopsis:
A lovely Citra-forward ddh ipa. Tons of citrus and pineapple with no off flavors. The only other reviews on this are from @Dragginballs76 and @Blackop555 , and I agree with both of them. Which is unusual, since I usually experience hops very differently than most.

    Howdy NBSers!
I am lover of both dogs and cats (and most other creatures too) and have always had either both or one or the other at any given time throughout my life. Since my wife and I live in an apartment, at the moment we just have two cats. Hopefully we'll get a dog at some point in the near future, too. Like @lordofthewiens , both of our cats are adopted. Even more like he and his wife, one ended up with us after we signed up with the SPCA to be a foster home. That arrangement lasted till the second cat . She looks like she's mixed with a rat it something and occasionally pops up in beer pictures. The other one is much more relaxed and is very sweet, but weird. Both of them. Cats are pretty weird.... Animals are always fun to have around! On to business.
This marks the first time that I've been able to participate in the massive BIF for NBS (or any BIF, for that matter) and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. It's immensely fun and convivial, clever, dumb, generous, kind and weird all at once. Plus, the end result is new beers to try on here with everyone who participated so you can't go wrong.

My first new beer today is an IPA from Victory that I got courtesy of @Ozzylizard. Thanks a million! I think I've only ever had Prima Pils from them (I really liked it) and so I'm looking forward to trying the two Victory beers he included in his box.
It pours a crystal clear copper color with a couple fingers of airy beige head that settles to a healthy film. Leaving nice lacing.
This is a nice "old school" IPA. I don't necessarily like that term, but here we are. The aroma and flavor are both of spicy somewhat earthy hop flavors intermingled with bready/caramely malt flavors. It is dry and drinkable with medium bitterness. Whenever I have beers like this it is a breath of fresh air. I adore NEIPAs as much as the next guy, but being so swamped with them makes beers like this that much more enjoyable.

    Here is my official scorecard.

    Cheers!

And look, here he is again, different window, as new beer number two is rolled out...

Citrus Citra IIPA (8.7% abv) from Decadent Ales...
Medium gold, opaque beer with a few fingers of white head on top... Featuring the Citra hop exclusively, and the addition of orange peels... Unsurprisingly, a real citrus showcase, with mostly orange impressions, from flesh to peel to pith - and a mild undercurrent of dankness to round things off and reign in anything that might've gotten too tart or tangy... Medium-feel, amply carbonated... Moderately sweet, mildly bitter... Too much orange in a beer is a detractor for me, but this beer evades that, and offers a nice, juicy, orange-forward IIPA that delivers a nice punch without a hint of alcohol on the palate...

For what it's worth, I triple love the early start. I'm also biased, considering I get off work about 1 a.m. Sunday local time and am generally pretty thirsty right about then. (Howdy, Hank!)

Another New American-made Oktoberfest for me:
Samuel Adams Octoberfest, 5.3% ABV, 16 IBUs

Simple toasted-malt notes with a super fruity bread-malt nose to start with, as sweet and fruity smelling as an English pale ale. The first sip is most noteworthy for a complete lack of hop flavor ... it's all malt, peach, a hint of caramel, maple syrup. The hops build up a light earthy aftertaste over time, and occasionally there's a little hop pinch (not exactly a full "bite") early in the sip.

These Oktoberfests are starting to run together for me with little distinction between them. Not a bad thing, just a thing. This version is a little sweeter than the average but still finding enough earthiness to balance toward the mean.

Full disclosure: I rarely buy Boston Beer Co. beers and only grabbed a six-pack of this one because my choices while shopping yesterday were quite limited. Everybody wins today, though, because I really like it and feel inspired to revisit Boston Lager and sample some more Sam Adams offerings in the near future FWIW.

The parade of pooches and other furry (and scaly:grin:) friends is pretty awesome. More puppy pics, please! :stuck_out_tongue:

    Cheers!

Good Morning BAs thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started, below is a picture of our 12 year old Chihuahua Theodore. About 3 months ago he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and they think he only has less than 6 months to live. We are trying all we can even giving CBD oil a try and to make matters worse about 2 months ago he went blind. He has coped with it very well and still gets around great and has lots of energy we are having as much fun with him as we can and will not give up until there is nothing else we can do.

This morning I am getting started slowly since I have a nice line up of new beers today, this is Sweetwater Mosaic single hop hazy IPA. Overall a pretty solid brew nothing super impressive just a well done beer. Cheers all!!

Appearance 4 - Pours slightly hazy orange with decent white head that settles to a nice ring around the glass. sticky legs spot the glass.

Aroma 3.75 - Overly ripe mango, pineapple and peach. Light aroma of oat and earthiness with a hint of malt.

Taste 3.75 - Nice balance of tropical fruit and bitter citrus peel. The taste is not as sweet or tropical as the nose lets on and I like the lightly bitter balance.

Feel 3.75 - Medium bodied light softness with a touch of dryness.

Overall 3.77 - I enjoy a great sweet tropical NEIPA but I also really like these "hazy" IPAs that combine some bitterness and are not real sweet.

[IMG] Poured into a wide open glass canned recently, not sure when but coming from @jzeilinger and it was a brewery only release. Pours a very hazy orange yellow with a 2 plus finger sticky white head that leaves a thin layer of lace throughout. 4.5

Smell is guava, apricot, tangerine, mellon, and grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste follows tropical front to back, guava, tangerine, mellon, apricot, and a nice hit of grapefruit in the crazy balanced finish.4.25

Mouthfeel is soft with gentle life, sticky but not dry, bigger than average, and goes down very easy at 7% ABV. 4.5

Overall this is very nice as always from this brewery, highly recommend this one . 4.25

Pilsner with breakfast and now Pilsner with lunch, I'm on a roll . . .

Light, clear gold color with good white cap and lacing.

Aroma of rich malt and herbal, spicy hops.

Taste on entry has hops slightly ahead of the malt with a sharp, herbal spiciness that leads but does not cover the malt. Malt is bready, yeasty like fresh rolls, and the flavor is rather dry. Hops continue to the finish ending on a refreshingly bitter note. Complementary flavors that merge well together to make a complex whole.

    Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Altogether a class act and it's a class well worth attending.
