So I haven't been to OH in a few months and I was wondering whether or not there was still a line at open on Saturday now that the beer is more available. I'm asking pretty much for the sake of trying to trade some stuff in line

There is still a line. It doesn’t wrap around multiple blocks like it used to. There are groups of dudes that still go every weekend; no matter what, to trade/drink/shoot the shit. I’m sure you will be able to still line up some trades.

Dudes, these stouts (CWN, the Sunsets) are still way too sweet. Let's hold this outfit to a proper standard. I really hope the reformulated SD&W maintains a proper roasty, bitter balance.

Agreed. Everyone who is proclaiming OH is on their stout game has blinders on or likes beer that tastes like instant diabetes. So sweet its ridiculous.

I still shudder about the 4 oz of Maple Creamies that I struggled to get down.

No recent stouts are as sweet as creamies. That's just, for better or worse, what people seem to want in stouts now, these big, sugary, diabetes inducing stouts (edit: all of which are still less sweet than Maple Creamies).

The roast and the bitterness is exactly what had been lacking from these stouts the past few months. No body. Straight syrup. I know adjunct/dessert stouts are the craze these days, but they just ain’t my thing.

Having said that, Double Sunset isn’t bad and is definitely a step in the right direction. Very nice coffee roast flavor and not over the top sweet. Split the Honduran with some friend tonight and was a big fan.

Was anyone a fan of Bad Decisions? Haven’t tried a lot of the recent ones but I thought it was better than the two recent ‘orbits’ and some other stouts. I realize I’m working within a smaller sample size than most of you but I really dug that one and would love to see a return.

I tend to fully embrace adjunct pastry stouts (as well as non-pastries!) so take my opinion when a grain of lactose, but I agree that I used to pass on most OH stouts due to oppressive sweetness. Ever since snowbirds 2, though, I've really been digging what they've been doing (aside from Rice Proxie Treats, which just wasn't my thing, for whatever reason). Maybe my sweetness tolerance has just increased, too. Lol

I personally loved maple creamies and OH's stouts since then, yes they have for the most part been very sweet, but i like my stouts that way..but i get how thats not for everyone

Haven't had my can of diamonds yet but SDW and SCE are great.

This recipe of short is heavier on the roastiness and sweetness. A better balance.

Small Citra is a great IPA.

Man, idk, on my second bottle of double sunset and it just doesn't seem oppressively sweet to me at all. For 13%, I'm picking up very reasonable booze. It comes across to me as a heavier PM Dawn. Maybe I just have an immature palate or something.

Drinking Space Diamonds now, pretty great. Had a growler from the last batch that was not letting any light through it- looked like OJ, tasted the same. This batch seems more pale in color, head quickly vanished; taste is lighter citrus bite, some stone fruit, nice dry finish.

I'm new to Other Half (though quickly learning thanks to some goodies @alexsergio sent me!) and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the naming structure they use? After reading multiple forums and multiple searches, the only thing I could really decipher is small means lower alcohol and daydream means it has lactose lol.

Are all the vegetable ones related? Guessing double and triple refer to IIPA and IIIPA? Cheddar and Cream, wtf? lol

Any links or explanations would be greatly appreciated. I'll be in New York with my fiance in December and Other Half is on my list to hit!

    :beers:

How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does a sun set? How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work? It just does.

Kidding, some folks on here deciphered the inconsistent naming convention ..... hopefully theyll reply.

You pretty much gotta it. OH generally puts out a base beer and then brews multiple variants of it.

For the single-hop brews, the hop is usually named (for example, All Citra Everything or Double Mosaic Dream). The exception would be the Space series, where Galaxy is used.

If I recall correctly, Brocolli, Cheddar, and Cabbage were all released around the same time. Then came the DDH versions, plus Cheddar Brocolli (Brocolli DDH with the hops from Cheddar). Triple Cream is the TDH version of Cheddar, with included lactose. Triple Brocolli is the TDH version of Brocolli. Cream of Brocolli is the base Brocolli with lactose. Etc.

The "Dream" / "Daydream" series are especially messy, you're best off just checking out each beer on Untappd or their IG to see if lactose is included.

Shoutout to the dual hop series - a beacon of simplicity in what’s generally a naming convention shitshow
