At the time of the FOb4 release I saw a trade close of 12 FOb4 for one KBBS. Now it was only one trade and maybe it was an outlier, but I think it's a good idea of what it would take. I think if you included FF, FS, FO17, and Mxy you would be at a great starting point, but its tough when trading up.

That's crazy. No way KBBS tastes 12 times better than FOb4.

I'll never get over the overvalue of TG stouts. Both in trade and in $$$.

Trading up is tough. I think that when trading up, there's a three different ways that gets the most bites. This is 100% my gut, and not based on any data exercise:

    1. Trading 2-4 quality bottles that are harder to find. E.g. NC is about or somewhat higher than FOb3 before B4 came out. Close, even if NC is/was higher. That said, NC is harder to find. So, trading multiple harder to get bottles is more attractive than trading the same value bottles that are easier.

    2. Trading significantly larger quantity of high quality but lower value bottles. A good example of this is @Bum4ever 's comment above, saying 12x FOb4 for KBBS. You have to really want that KBBS to not trade for a case of FOb4. To someone that loves FOb4 this has to look mighty attractive. The only thing that holds people back is relative trade value if they feel like they could get more.

    3. Just completely going overboard in value. E.g. Offering VR and Prop 14 for BAA - because you just gotta have it now.

I agree. Most of the BL stouts I have will be my first time trying them. I traded up for MD b5, but obviously it didn't take nearly what it would take to get KBBS and I had also tried every beer I gave away at least once or had multiples. If I had multiples of each of the BL stouts, I'd try to do this.

Buy a FO if you really want to try it. I find that beer to be underwhelming and would much rather have a Black Gold instead.

Good to know. I’m getting a little push back about asking for a plus in this trade.

It's definitely not 1:1, FO b4 should be adding something.

I absolutely love FO. While the value has dropped lately because of the large batches, I still think it is an incredibly tasty beer.

The “quality” has also dropped in many people’s opinions including my own. I have no dog in the fight but b4 is a far cry from b3 and b2 and so on. It’s my personal palate but based on others opinion its commonly agreed. I’m not saying it’s a terrible beer, it’s delicious. But it’s not close to as good as it was. The value has dropped due to a combo of large batches and quality. I also think the value of b4 is low due to Cali unloading mass quantities. The value of b4 is set by the masses and it’s been set a little over ~.25 VRU.

while I have never bad b1, I think b3 is hands down the best. b2 is much more thin. and while b4 may not be on b3's level of deliciousness, I would say its on par with b2. the thickness is there but there is a little less nilla in b4. I too have zero dog in the fight. just giving my opinions which I have heard similar from as well. cheers!

I haven't had FO b3 or b4. I thought b1 was amazing and then was let down by b2, which kept me from pursuing it anymore.

You should be able to get a OFBB for Bulk Prairie Member bottles and barrels, not sure it will take 12, but it will also depend on if they stay at same value as last years and probably have to be a variety .

What top-notch saisons would be obtainable for Black Gold? Feel free to use ratios as I will have multiples. A buddy of mine had great suggestions (Flora, Civil Disobedience 19, Suarez family, etc) but I also I want to hear from BA. I know absolutely nothing about the rarities of some of them and don’t want to make offers that is laughable.

Also, what about Midnight Still and variants? Thanks.

Everything this guy said is spot on! B1 is on another level and by far the best when I’ve had it fresh. IMO b1>>b3>b2>b4

I've just set up a trade for my BG '18 for his Midnight Still Coffee/Cardamom. Went 1:1.

Seems that the general consensus is that BG has more value that FOb4. How about FOb3 value wise compared to a BG? Would a BG and a plus be expected for the b3?

If you offered 1:1 it might close, but most likely the BG side adds a small plus.

My advice would be try for a B3. You might be able to pull off a B4 and B3 for your MD. If you offer MD for 2xFO b4 it will close in minutes. I think it's close to MD for FO x3.

Take this advice if you are really set on getting FO specifically:
