    Synopsis:
The most wheat-forward ipa I’ve experienced. I don’t like Tired Hands’ wheat ipas but I really like this one. The “wheatiness” is strong but it tastes so good alongside the more traditional grapefruity hops. @2beerdogs and @Victory_Sabre1973 didn’t mention wheat in their reviews, so this might just be another case of my hyper-sensitive palate picking up on minor components and blowing them out of proportion.

Also, not sure if I agree with this can advice.

Enjoying another one from the seemingly endless box that @CanConPhilly sent me in the BIF. Getting ready to head to a festival with my wife to meet with my mother-in-law so thought I would enjoy a lighter one for now. I have a good relationship with my mother-in-law, I worked eith her for several years before I started dating her daughter, she's actually been at the plant since it opened 43 years ago. We try to talk her into retiring but she just doesn't want to do it.
    Anyhow on to the beer,

Pours a hazed pinkish red with two fingers of pink head.
Smell is tart and salty, tropical fruits, pineapple, guava, passionfruit.
Taste is like amped up tropical fruit juice with a tart, salty kick. I like it! Not overly sour just a nice tartness.
Feel is medium with good carb levels.
Overall a great fruited gose, well balanced, quite tasty!

    Hey what's going on?!

    New beer that's what!

Seems like Fall has finally arrived down here in these parts, and no doubt. One day it's 85 degrees and I am at the beach, the next minute it's like 50... boom out come the jackets... so much for those gradual transitions for the "new normal".

Pretty good weekend, lots of goodies food wise, but my beer stash is getting a little thin. I need a little excuse to top up, and I paid a visit to DC Brau which was long overdue for a small amount of goodies. Other than that I am going to have to get back on the beer train for some more new beers soon.

So with that being said what is new for our hero today??

Poured from the can into a DC Brau fancy pants glass. Can release from 2 days ago.

Deep amber orange, with an opaque consistency and nice glow. Hints of peach orange on the top and sides, with lighter lemon colors to the bottom. Thick rich classic IPA head, off white easily making three fingers. Swiss cheese retention with clumpy hanging pull lacing occasionally as well. Solid looking IPA.

Juicy classy fresh chewy leafy hop aroma. Hints a small touch of leafy sage, but more dank qualities and a touch of tropical juicy character. Small touches of light sprinkled sugary malt quality for balance. This is very nice taking me back to a different time.

Palate manage to keep things pretty settled. Light bodied flirting with a session mouthfeel, but provides a nice tangerine light orange citrus quality on first sip. Large amounts of earthy grass tones with some spicy touches of black pepper for character. Faint minty aftertaste mixing with orange and earth in a real light easy drinking package.

Just at a hair ove 5% this kicks off slightly like a real session IPA but with more flavor and body. Still it's lightness makes for some ridiculously drinkability and I could see this 4 pack dissapearing real quickly.

    4.11/5

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Funk Teku glass canned on 9/21/18. Pours a beautiful hazy orange yellow with a solid finger of white head that leaves thin webs of lace all over the place, with excellent retention, 7% ABV. 4.5

Smell is mango upfront and center stage, papaya, pineapple, maybe a hint of vanilla, and white grapefruit rind. 4.5

Taste follows mango, papaya, vanilla, tangerine, pineapple, and a little grapefruit bitterness in the finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, a nice soft feel on your tongue and palate, sticky but not dry, and at 7% ABV it drinks bigger, but extremely approachable. 4.75

Overall just another well made beer from this fairly young brewery. Would love to drink this again! 4.5

It's been a few weeks since my NBS beer has come from Twin Elephant This week it has, Goodnight Sellout a hazy hoppy 5.8% Abv American Pale Ale. Not only a new beer but also a new hop called cashmere .Citra hops are also used. It looks like most hazy brews do and has a thick off white head. The aroma is citrus fruits. The taste is also fruity. The citra hop is there but it is mild and softer than it usually is. In any case it tastes great. Goodnight Sellout has the softest mouthfeel I have ever found in a beer. There is a lasting dry finish. I enjoyed this beer a lot. A lot of other drinkers did also. Growler sales were cut soon after I got mine. Excellent stuff.

Good afternoon, NBS friends! Today I've got a few new brews coming your way, including a planned two from @FFFjunkie 's awesome box.

The first up is a big bottle format milk stout: Moloko by 3 Floyds.

Definitely a nicely bitter English style milk stout. Fairly straight forward. The feel is appropriately silky and smooth. The flavor is more bitter and roasty than my personal preference, but quite good, nonetheless. Full review below:

Sierra Blanca's 'Bone Chiller' nut brown ale.

This is a surprisingly tasty and satisfying English-styled nut brown ale from New Mexico. I picked it up last Sunday evening at a Whole Foods in Santa Fe. I only wish I had picked up a six-pack instead of one for me and one for one of our neighbors back in here in Colorado Springs.

The beer looks fantastic -- reddish-brown in body with a long lasting dense and creamy head. The aroma is all roasted grains and nuts, very pleasing. Then taste is rich with lovely tones of cocoa and bittersweet chocolate with just the right touch of easy hop bitterness to round things out.

NBS, so glad to join as always! Ever have a beer that's a bit of a mystery? I purchased this one recently but wonder if it had been sitting on the shelf as there's no date on the bottle (ugh!) and BA says it's retired... Despite all that my rating came up higher than its average so one of my favorite breweries is apparently continuing to do something right, yet I'm wondering if it was better when it may have been fresher
    [IMG]
Overall 3.84 while its average is 3.5
750mL bottle, no date, poured into a tulip
A: Light orange, one-finger head, lots of carbonation
    S: Cherry, light malt/yeast notes
T: Matches the nose but lighter
M: Light-bodied, can feel the carbonation, a bit tart
O: I'm not sure how fresh this is. Lots I like about it but in the end it doesn't quite bring it all home

New Beer Sunday: A Pumpkin Ale

Afternoon NBSers, with an alert for fans of Pumpkin Ales with some pumpkin flavor.

This afternoon’s new beer is the Lancaster Baked Pumpkin Ale which comes from Lancaster Brewing over in Lancaster PA in the heart of Amish country. This brewery has been around since 1995 in a town that was once, before prohibition, quite active as home for breweries and brewing. Since I’m fond of this brewery's Winter Warmer. and one or two of their other beers, I decided to give this one a try.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until I finish the beer, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/743/99907/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors here have the expected pumpkin pie spices (nutmeg, allspice, clove and cinnamon) up front but with both some breadiness from the malt and the baked pumpkin showing in the background. There’s a nice spicy bitterness in the semi-dry vanilla tinged ending. If you want pumpkin pie rather than just pumpkin pie spices this is a beer that might be worth a try. I’d certainly be willing to have another (just not too often or too many :sunglasses:).

    Cheers, all!

Good morning NBSers and thanks to @lordofthewiens for the great start. This afternoon I am starting with my second mystery beer from @strohme2 and boy did this one have me stumped. The paper wrapper says "probably better enjoyed on a hot day", I hope those are gone so today will have to do. The pour and nose made me sure this was a Gose until I took a sip. There was no salt and it was actually pretty sweet and a little syrupy. Me being the hard head I am stuck with gose thinking I was right and boy I was way off.Short's Melt my Brain a Golden Ale brewed with Coriander, Juniper Berries, Lime with Tonic Water added. I seemed to like this more than the average and it is really tasty. thanks Justin!!

Appearance 3.75 – pours clear golden yellow with a decent thin white head that very quickly dissipates to a thin ring.

Aroma 3.75 – Lime, lemon zest and coriander are prominent right off the bat. Little bit of grain underneath and a slight floral aroma.

Taste 4 – Man the flavors really pop. Lime, lemon, maybe raspberry or boysenberry?? The taste is much fruitier than the nose let on. Slightly sweet with a mild floral finish.

Feel 3.75– Really light bodied at first but I am not sure if it is the fruit or what gives it a slightly dry syrupy finish.

Overall 3.85– I really like this one, pretty light very flavorful and easy drinking.

New to the area and new to me . . .

Hazy, light orange gold color with white cap and lacing.

Fairly strong aroma of grapefruit and orange with a zesty sort of hop brightness.

Taste is hop forward consisting of somewhat floral citrus notes opening with a firm yet not bitter hop bite. This supported by a substantial amount of malt that I missed in the scent. The malt isn't a sweet sort, rather dry and crackery like Pilsner malt, yet there's plenty enough to carry the hops along. Fairly complex and balanced flavors that are consistent to the finish and linger a bit in the aftertaste.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

This is a brew of substance with poise and balance.

Foreign Objects - Die Deutscher Haltung Ungespundet Keller Pilsner

Continuing with the theme of sister beers from past NBSs, I bring you this. This beer is a very light copper and very slightly cloudy. Carbonation is light. Fruity (apples) malt sweetness dominates upfront. Floral and leafy hops then fight for dominance and end up succeeding in the finish. I really like the character here but would enjoy more refinement or a rounder touch. The beer last week seemed bolder but I actually liked it better though.

To be blunt, this beer strikes me as some of the worst branding decisions I've seen in a while. Compare the pic above to the pic below of the other beer from last week. Keep in mind that these two different beers are sharing shelf space together. The cans are almost identical: "Ungespundet Keller Pilsner / Was Wurde das Subtilitat / Ungespundet Lagerbier." The only critical difference is the name in script on the top of the can... which is in a foreign language and written in a difficult to read font! What were they thinking? Who would walk by these beers and notice that they were different with our crowded shelves? This would even be slightly more forgivable if they were IPAs that were designed to move, but these are Kellerbiers. Just based on sales numbers, does the US Kellerbier market demand multiple types co-existing from a NY brewer in such a fashion?

    Howdy, NBS!
It is shaping up to be a nice, sunny day here in Montreal and I am looking forward to taking advantage of not having to work to try a couple new beers on here.

As far as in-laws go. I'm lucky. All my in-laws are awesome. It was hard at first as my father-in-law is the only one that can have a decent conversation in English and I couldn't speak any French then but everybody was super patient and tried their best with me. There was a part of me that worried that they were only cool cause I didn't understand them and that once I could speak French I'd realize they all sucked but I am happy to report that was not the case at all. They are all super cool, nice, fun people. I can only imagine how awful a bad relationship with in-laws would be so I'm happy to see that (so far at least) most everybody on here has had good experiences.

I'm going to start today off with the mystery beer from @Ozzylizard . I wanted to last week for reveal day but based on the box he sent I was worried it was going to be a magnificent 15% stout or something that would have me sleeping at work. So I'm going to try it this week and if need be I'll take a nap.:astonished:
It pours a fairly opaque dark, dark brown that almost has some ruby at the edges. Two fingers of foamy head.

The aroma is lightly nutty with toasty malt notes and some sweet smokey smell in the background.

Taking a drink, it is about what I expected from the smell and the look. Some very light roast, dark bread, a mineral bite and a woody smoky finish that is as much an aroma as a flavor.

It is fairly light and drinkable and balanced. Nothing really stands in the way and the smoke component (assuming I'm not imagining it) is just about right for the rest of it.

To me it seems like it is probably a smoked porter or brown ale of some sort. I know I have seen Mr. Lizard talk before about regularly going to Bamberg so I figure he is a fan of smoky beers (I am too), but I don't know if I'm ready to say it is a German version based on the bottle itself. That said, it doesn't feel "hollow" like some lower alcohol brown beers do to me so who knows it could be from Europe as I feel like the Germans really nail being "substantive-but-quaffable". However, I feel like with a German paper hiding the label it would be a little on the nose. All that to say, I can't do better than a style as far as guessing what It is.

It is very nice wherever it's from and whatever it is and is absolutely perfect for the day today! It is a solid 4-4.25 across the board for me. Very enjoyable, well-balanced and tasty. For the moment I'm going to just enjoy it and I will be back in a few with the reveal and to post my final review

    Santé!
