There are probably at least a dozen reviews for that beer that are ones I have sent and I believe there is only one score lower than that. It seems to hold its own all across the country.

Moving on to another new brew for Sunday: Brouwerij Verhaeghe's Duchesse Cherry.

The OG Duchesse de Bourgogne is, I believe, a fantastic Flanders Red. Their Kriekenale is pretty darn solid, too.

This beer, sadly, is a little one dimensional and plain. The nose is wonderful, but it can't quite live up to it on the palate. Tons of berries (cherries obviously included), some tannins and vanilla, but ultimately it comes across like a basic lambic instead of a cherry Flanders Red.

    Good evening.
My Mother in Law adores me so Im pretty lucky. She is Portuguese and can speak it quite well. Shes a women thats had a tough life and raised 7 kids many on her own as my wifes father was an abusive alcoholic. So she deserves all the credit in the world. My wife is the angel of the bunch so in that respect I am lucky as well.
Todays brew from @colts9016 BIF#8 box.
    Madison River Brewing
    Salmon Fly Honey Rye
Pours a golden yellow that has a rather small head that disappears rather quickly leaving a thin ring and little to no lacing.
Aroma is quite nice lots of floral clover honey and then that lovely spice from the rye which I dig. Bready malts peek in and is there is a touch of citrusy hops.
Taste is where this takes a turn. The honey takes a strong stand and there are some spicy notes of rye. The malt is very light- almost pilsner like. From my experience I like a little darker roasted malts to support the rye- probably just personal taste. The weird part is there is a metallic taste that kind of drags it all down. There is again a citrusy hop taste but it gets lost in that metal.
Body is on the lighter side with a light carb and finishing greenish bitter.
Im glad for the try of course but this was a miss for a rye beer for me. Its a simple highly drinkable brew. Could just be personal preference.
    Thank You for the chance.

    Well I'm back.
I've been doing some things around the house, studying some grammar and watching football and now I'm ready for a second beer.
This one is (as far as I know) the first widely distributed Brut IPA in Quebec and will be the second I've tried. I wasn't a huge fan of the other one I tried (in Chicago this summer) but I'm curious for this one. Charlevoix is really hit or miss with hoppy beers but when they hit they are great. The color isn't as gross as it looks in my picture above.

This is a very nice beer!
It pours mostly clear with a nice head, good retention and lacing. The aroma is citrusy with some light mango-ish sweetness and a little pine to balance it out. The flavor, in turn, is dry with a piney tongue-smack of bitterness and just a tiny bit of stonefruit and citrus sweetness behind all the earthy, piney, vaguely resinous flavor. Nonetheless, it is not super bitter. It is dry and drinkable, fruity and bitter. It is about exactly what this style should be as far as I understand it and is quite enjoyable. I'd gladly have it again.

    Here's my official review.

    Santé!

Pours light amber, copious head fading slowly.
Nose is pine, citrus, biscuity malt.
Taste is orange, grapefruit, lemon. Malt throughout though the finish is particularly malty. Medium body, supports the taste well, feels suiting.
Overall this leans more hoppy red than straight ipa though is quite good.

Back again for a fun entry. This was sent to me by @MacMalt .

    Imperial Moountie from Bolero Snort
    [IMG]

Pour is a murky medium brown with a tan head. The foam dissipated fairly quick. Nose is charred wood and dark maple. The taste is coffee with sweet cream, maple, and a charred/ashy characteristic follows all of the rest. A lot sweeter than I was thinking. Medium body, but still sticky. A nice beer. Very warming on a day that is a bit cool. Not too many breweries out there making imperial smoked brown ales, so this was a real treat.

Good for Lawson's. Just went to thier website to check out the new public place. I will definitly plan a vist in the near future. "Sip" has kind of become my house beer. Being brewed in CT I always have access to it and often keep a fresh four pack here because its so solid. I remember loving a Lawson's maple stout at a beer fest about 6 years ago also, but I can't buy that in CT.

Happy Sunday NBS. I have a couple of new brews I am excited to share with you today. The first is Citra Charged Dump Truck by Bayern Brewing out of Missoula, Montana. Some family from MT sent me a variety 6 pack and this is one of them.

This thing is looking great- I can't wait to dive in. No bottling date, but I'm not gonna fuss as I normally would.
L: Hazy straw yellow in color. Thin looking in appearance. Has a huge 3 and a half bubbly white cap with generous amounts of lacing. Looks appeasing.
S: Smells of bread, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, and grass. Smells nice, just very muted.
T: Very citrusy. Orange, tangerine, lemon and grapefruit are all present. Malt and bread flavor is present and is a welcomed addition to the flavor profile. Citra hop presence is noted in lemongrassy fashion. Finish is citrus sweet with mild bitterness.
F: Low carbonation, soft and smooth. Crisp feeling on the finish which is nice. Its super smooth and highly enjoyable.
O: Super enjoyable. If I had more access to it, I would be pounding these all summer. It's a win in my book. Big thanks to my cousin in MT who hooked it up. Cheers NBS!

New Beer #2. Surly Darkness Russian Imperial Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels. I received it from the generous @Vidblain in the NBS BIF. I've been salivating for several years watching BAs in the upper Midwest drinking Darkness so I'm excited to try it. Russian Imperial Stout is my favorite beer style and the base beer has all the elements I look for. What's impressive to me is how delicate the whiskey is - it doesn't overwhelm or distract from the chocolate, toffee, and cherry. This is really good! Here's my full review:

    4.46/5 rDev +1.4%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

I received this from @Vidblain in a BIF box. Bottled on 1/25/2017. poured into a snifter glass. An absolutely black, oily pour with an attractive, creamy khaki-colored cap and thick sheen of creamy lacing. Its nose features roasted malt, milk chocolate, toffee, nuts, oak, and a whiff of freshly-brewed coffee. As the glass warms, the smell of rye whiskey emerges. The taste is outstanding! There is rye whiskey up front along with roasted malt, rich milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, coffee, nuts, and black cherry. As the glass warms, the whiskey and cherry become more apparent. The tastes compliment each other very nicely. It has a thick, viscous mouth feel that gets chewier as it warms, with light/moderate carbonation, and the 12% ABV is dangerous because you don't feel it at first; just some moderate warming. Overall, this is a superb Russian Imperial Stout. Darkness has been on my radar for several years and I'm grateful to @Vidblain for having the chance to enjoy it.

Thank you, Chris, for including this wonderful Stout in your box!

She's a Boston Terrier, the same as our previous dog. We found her in Central Pennsylvania. Her breeders are really nice folks - they're Mennonites and my wife visited and was impressed with how they breed and raise their puppies. We will have to have her chipped because they don't do that. Hopefully, I'll post a photo tomorrow. There is a website for breeders in Pennsylvania: http://greenfieldpuppies.com. But you have to be careful and visit to make certain it's a legitimate breeder and not a puppy mill.

Another Montana brew for ya NBS. Beltian White by Harvest Moon Brewing out of Belt, MT.
L: Golden rod in color. Somewhat hazy appearance. Little head formation but does sustain ring around perimeter. Leaves some lacing behind.
S: Very subtle notes of orange, black pepper, lemon and bread. Orange seems to be most pronounced, but the smell is very subdued.
T: Orange peel flavor is dominant, following the bready/wheat flavor. Coriander is present is the residual flavor. Finish is malty sweet with lingering citrus flavor.
F: Low carbonation, soft and full bodied. Really enjoyable.
O: Not the biggest fan of wheat beers, but I can roll with this. I appreciate the flavor that the orange peel and coriander provides. I would drink again.

Dessert Berliner with guanabana and cherimoya. This was outstanding. Great head retention/lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, strawberry, banana, coconut, red/green apple, white wine, hay, straw, herbal, and grass; with moderate vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, white bready malt balance; light pepper, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness; light fruit tang, spiciness, and herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced grainy malts and lactic acid; light sticky hops and fruit tang in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, 6.5%, not overly lactic. Not as sweet as other dessert styles I've had, but this was spot on. Balanced juicy tropical fruits and Lacto complexity; with nice vanilla, lactose, and pale/wheat malt balance against acidity. 4.15

Awesome IPA. Great fluffy head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, woody, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 6.5%. Very vibrant, dank, and earthy balance Simcoe hop complexity; nice clean pale malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from dryness. 4.1

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us going.

After a frustrating Saturday which saw both the college teams I root for go down to defeat, the football gods smiled upon my Seahawks and allowed a fairly impressive victory occur in London.

It's a clear 59° right now in the city that has a college that keeps one of Bing Crosby's toupees behind glass. At night, temperatures are going to start dipping below freezing this week, which will add even more fun to my already ghastly early morning commutes to work.

Today I kicked off with a long-ballyhooed IPA that I've never managed to have. The bottle was given to me by a friend who knew I'd never had it, with the caveat that it was already past it's prime. Well, I accepted it, tried to arrange to share it with a friend who'd also never had it, and as that never worked out, I kinda forgot about it, then purposefully ignored it because I assumed it was probably past drinkable:
Actually, at 5 months out it's still surprisingly drinkable, with a tropical fruit-like hoppiness up front. Midway through the taste is where things kinda fall off, with it ending with a blandly hoppy, tea-like finish, but I've had plenty of fresher IPAs that tasted worse. I rated it around 3.75 but am saving an actual review for that fine day when I lay my hands on a fresher example.

Happy New Tart Wheat Ale from Michigan #2 Sunday

I just reviewed a Michigan brewed tart wheat ale from Mitten, founded in 2012. Now moving onto another tart wheat ale from the same state, but this time from a brewery established in 1995.

3.75 across the board with 0 rDev.

Appearance: This beer is bright. No haze like the prior one. Less foamy head upon pouring, which immediately disappeared. Some visible carbonation. Zero lacing.

Smell: Mild citrus and tropical fruit aromas. Lemon, lime, with sweeter hints of passion fruit, mango and some red apple.

Taste: This one had a touch more lemon acidity than the prior beer I had, which I like. But still relatively low on the sour scale. Crackery wheat profile.

    Mouthfeel: Moderate level of carbonation

Overall: A fine tart wheat ale. Nice acidity which is key for me.

SingleCut Heavy Boots of Lead. An 11% imperial stout.

It's in the low 50s here in NJ which has me in a fall mood. Drinking this one slowly, before and during the Red Sox/Astros game. First impressions:

Poured at 50ish degrees. Impressive head retention and lacing. The nose is leather, dark chocolate, peanut butter, and cherry. The taste is very smooth for 11%. Probably one of the more balanced and cohesive imperial stouts I've had. Milk and dark chocolate, cherry, and nuttiness. The mouthfeel is medium.

The nose gives me some savory soy sauce, which I don't love, but the taste is pretty spot-on. 4.38/5
