Hazy, light orange gold color, it really does look like orange juice, with small white cap.

Aroma of piney, citrusy hops that are very fresh and vibrant.

Taste is hop forward in abundance with very small bitterness. Hops are sharp but have some depth and come across as brightly citrusy with any overripe citrus aspects. Simple flavors but well balanced.

    Light-medium texture with balancing carbonation.

For a Pale Ale this one has a surprisingly low malt presence, for me at least, but I don't think malt is the point here. Hops are showcased and they do a good job of it while keeping things in balance.

I am on a one person pub crawl around the different beer bars on my area. Am currently drinking something way to heavy for a pub crawl

Days ago I already had the following side by side, blind tasting lined up for today with my bartender pal when the discussion broke out yesterday here about Belgian quads...

TR 10 vs. Westy 12. I don’t know which glass is which. The 10 is July ‘17, The 12 is June ‘18, so some age on the 10...And, I did a similar non-blind side by side taste of two freshies a couple of months ago in France...let’s drink!

Beer on left is a little browner in color. Beer on right has thicker heavier foam with longer cap retention. Otherwise, almost identical appearance. 4.75/5.0

Strong dried fruit on left - figs, dates, prune, sugary raisins vs. same aromas but not as strong fruit notes. 5.0/4.75

Taste is dried fruit, figs, dates, plums, and sugary raisins; more sweet and less earthy but notes of dirt and tobacco in the middle; cherries in the finish vs. dried fruit, alcohol, cherries, figs, earthy hops, dirt, tobacco and fresh leather in the finish. Both have subtle differences and both are sublime. 5.0/5.0

Not as carbonated; softer, medium body that feels more rounded vs. medium plus carbonation and more zippy; medium bodybut a tad lighter feeling. Both are slightly warming. 5.0/4.75

Overall I prefer the nose, flavor and feel in beer #1. The second beer ticks all the world-class boxes and has an earthy fruity vibe I love in a quad. Both are fantastic. 5.0/5.0

The “winner” just barely, on the left is the TR 10! When I did this side by side (non blind) previously, the Westy 12 nudged the 10...

I’m going to age my last Westy and compare the 2 beers at, say 4 years each...for science, of course. Cheers y’all!

In LA for the weekend for a friend’s wedding. Starting off the mini vacation with a stop at Modern Times Dankness Dojo. Got a few tasters. starting with Celestial City (on the left), a Marsala barrel aged saison.
