Shhh don't give away my retirement plan!!! Res Culture is killing it, have you been by Salud up the road from Heist? They have some excellent beers upstairs.

Salud? No, but it sounds like it will be my next trip into Charlotte. Last time we hit Resident Culture and OMB, Heist beers are very good the parking a hassle and it's always super busy. Thanks for the tip.

Please don't give MBC business. Sorry you had to pay $10-12/can. But since you did. A few thoughts.

I had a HT that was a year old and it was clear as day. Still tasted solid. Sediment is a huge factor here. A fresh Ht may take weeks to have the sediment fall out. For many brews, that's half your flavor.

Sometimes you may even get a can that is canned from the bottom of the canning vessel. Meaning that can may have 2-3x more sediment and crap than other cans. Some say to swirl that last bit into the last small pour. Some say to totally dump the crap.

Maybe your senses were overloaded if you had these all when they arrived. I always try to buy multiples for situations like this.

My experience with trillium. You'll find a solid greenish tannish muck in the bottom of the can and even bottom of your glass on many of their beers. Like I said, some swirl it into the entire beer. Some leave it out. Even sitting the can upright for a certain time frame and not distributing it can yield different results.

May be a stupid question what is MBC?

It's a reselling site. Basically google it with the word beer appended. I wish it never existed.

I can't speak for all, but I'm sure most here are very helpful because they do not buy these types of beers online. Maybe they do, but I do not. I prefer to trade. You likely would have had more luck if you came here looking for help on trading.

My only question is why did the OP wait 7 years to troll us all?

Didn't even know what it was until just now. Just curious...why does it bother you so much? Personally I would never want to part take (as a buyer or seller) but not sure why someone would "wish it never existed." Did you have a bad experience with it? Some of those prices seem ridiculous but if that's what people are willing to pay, more power to 'em.

It represents everything wrong with beer today. Buying limited beer with the sole purpose of reselling is a dick move.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to describe any of the beers OP mentions as "limited" any longer.

In fact, they are so readily available that paying $10-12 per can is absurd. You can get those for pretty close to cost on FB at this point. Or hell, maybe even 1:1 trade for Hoof Hearted (since OP is in Ohio).

I've always had problems lining these trades up, especially without much of note on my side of the state.

How do you trade for Treehouse without shipping two boxes for one in return?

Only times I've gotten Treehouse, Trillium, etc. were in Beer it Forward events. Never been able to land a trade in the forum sections for the stuff. Makes paying for it tempting, rather than haggling with some local sours as options. Treehouse isn't as limited as some other options, which I've completely written off as a 'do able' trade for me.

Mother of god that shit is expensive. I thought I had paid some crazy prices for beer. $50 for one bottle of DDH Ghost in the Machine, it is a great beer but damn.

There are some super generous BAs on here, I have met many though BIFs but done a ton of side trades after they were done. Getting to know someone makes it very easy to get some of this stuff but BIFs makes it much easier at least from what I have experienced.

I'm going to try and join BIF for the next round! I've had fun in the past.

I've never traded with any of my targets from years past. Perhaps I should do that. The Trillium came as a total surprise as my sender happened to visit Trillium for the first time during BIF, and he sent me one of everything he got. Magical experience, but I don't know that it would be repeatable.

Eh, the judgment here from some people is ridiculous. How many hours have you spent waiting online for beer? How far have you driven (or flown!) to buy beer? I could just as easily judge you for spending your time like that. Jesus.

I’m guessing the difference for most has to do with legalities.

I will say this, Trillium is not what it used to be for my anymore once they started their "new fermentation profiles". The past beers that have been my absolute favorite, such as DDH Congress which I have a few cans of in my fridge right now, are a shadow of what they used to be. Same goes with others I've gotten as well from them (a lot). Beers are now sweeter, less hop "punch" and more muddled overall. It's a bit sad, considering to me, they were perfection for the style. Now they are more and more like Treehouse (meh).

    You either
    - got bad/old cans
    - you don't like those particular beers
    - your palette was a bit off the day you drank those beers

And since you only purchased 1 of each can and had never tried those beers previously, kind of hard to narrow that down much further.

If you’re going to buy things on the black market, which is what you did, no matter how reputable you think the reseller is, you have to expect you may get substandard quality.

Heady Topper has always had a bitter edge to it. If you liked Doppelgänger, I would expect you would generally like Alter Ego as well.

Your comments on the individual beers don’t really make a lot of sense, but sometimes an IPA just tastes like an IPA with “normal hop flavors”. Also hype has a way of leading to letdown.

Glad you enjoyed the other beers you got.
