Hell, I had to build a tree house out back to live in since I can't fit in the front door of my house any longer.

I forgot to add I do agree with your overall point though. Weight gain at the end of the day is on you. It's just that I can see people overlooking just how many calories are in craft beer.

For sure at the onset, I'll bet few take alcohol percentage and higher carbohydrate count in craft beer into account. I've always been gym/nutrition centric, so for me, it was a consideration right away.

While Bud Light guy may not take this into account right away, he eventually does notice his clothes getting tighter. The "beer belly" is the biggest and most well known trope in alcohol consumption. Most people who get into craft beer end up putting on some weight in the early days by not paying attention to it. 100% of them identify that weight gain is happening, identify the culprit as beer and bad food choices while buzzed, and know that they should eat less, drink less, move more and repeat forever to correct the issue. The knowledge is there but at this crucial point many beer geeks seem to lean into it instead of doing anything that isn't buying a bigger brewery tee shirt and lining up for the next pint of sugar water.

This. Not only the alcohol calories from people guzzling 7-9% DIPAs on the regular, but what beers are nowadays. For example, a 12oz bottle of KBS is 340 calories. A quick google says that's equivalent to a cup of oatmeal with raisins, a banana, 1/2 cup of fruit, and a cup of coffee. In one 12oz bottle of 12% stout with no additives. Now imagine what a Wakefield/Omnipollo pastry stout with the viscosity of motor oil is packing. Not that every alcohol dependent chubbo is slugging down multiple pastry stouts in one sitting (though not out of the question..) but it definitely doesn't help

Well I'm just like you in this regard, so craft beer didn't cause weight gain for me because I'm extremely conscious of calorie counts. I actually use an app to track my drinks/BAC (roughly obviously), and then assume 160 calories per standard drink. Spoiler alert, it's really depressing how quickly calories add up with craft beer.

But I imagine many people don't care enough to pay attention to this, but that's likely more of a United States problem in general, rather than explicitly a craft beer problem.

Seems like just yesterday we were all bitching about bombers vs pints. Now we're bitching about pints vs 12oz. That's pretty funny to me.

This Trillium 20oz glass was my fave glass until I broke it for this very reason. Need to get another one.

Another rant. Went to CBC today. Bought 11 beers for like $56 & nothing above 16oz. I mean, I love CBCs selection. I don't think anyone beats them on selection. But damn it's getting expensive. A couple beers (16oz cans) rang up at $6.25. I can't keep up with this. People always say Trillium is expensive, and it is. But it's getting to be that the stores are just as expensive for what I consider to be lesser beers. Rant over I guess.

CBC pricing is stupid. I was in the Norfolk area and saw that they had received some Triple Crossing IPAs so I swung by. They were charging $7 per can! Guy blamed it on the distributor... not sure how factual it is but still, that price is ridiculous.

Yeah I picked up a couple of those but they were $6.25. But the only place around me that will get stuff like that is CBC. So I do it just to try it. It's crazy though. Also picked up a $6.25 Pure Project Triple IPA. I don't know why I continue to do this. Haha

The rip on the distributor is just an easy excuse that he knows will play with the average craft drinker. CBC's markup is larger than most stores

Depends on where you are. I'm in Belmont and CBC is actually competitive on pricing with the other stores in the immediate area including Cambridge and Somerville. They just don't have many higher volume packs like 12-packs or cases on display that get you a volume discount. You have to go to someplace like Total Wine if you want lower prices.

For a rare out-of-market drop like Triple Crossing, it's kind of silly to complain, because where else are you going to get it? Someone in the supply chain is going to be tempted to add an extra markup for the geographical rarity.

Still plenty of great $10 six and four packs at CBC. If you want to tick, then you have to pay for it.

In case anyone is into the whole aging thing, Eastgate in Wilmington for some reason just put about a dozen bottles of 2017 BCBS (regular) on the shelf for $10 each. They also had a sign saying the 2018 batch will be there on Nov. 23rd.
