One more for tonight- Black Butte 30th Anniversary
Pours black, collar of mocha head settles in fine bubbles.
    Smells of cocoa, dark fruit.
Taste is chocolate milk, hints of coffee, caramel, and licorice. I'm not picking up much barrel though
Thick, creamy mouthfeel. No trace of heat or burn.
Overall very tasty, also dangerous considering the abv. I wasn't in love with the past few years' bottles though this one I could grab another bottle of.

Stone 22nd Anniversary Anti-Matter DIPA, tasty 3.92 overall

Pours amber with one finger of cream colored head. Food head retention & above average lacing

S: Some grassyness, a little breadyness, wanted more nose

T: Follows the nose, dryness & a little orange up front. A little pine shows as this warms, some breadyness, a touch of grapefruit, plus cakey dryness. Finishes bready with a little gassy & citrussy hoppyness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, great balance

A well put together DIPA, drinks too easy

Hey everyone, not drinking too much today because of Halloween festivities last night but that won't keep my from my first NBS! I've been saving the last beer that @beertunes sent me for this occasion. Thanks again for the box man, I've really enjoyed it!!

I'm really excited to try this one because there was also a Shoe Toss by Wander Brewing in the box and while I'm not sure if they're from the same series (they have the same 500ml glass bottle style) that beer was very tasty.

So, on to the beer. Tonight I'm trying Global Mutt by Wander Brewing. It was poured from the previously mentioned 500ml glass bottle into my spiegelau stout glass.

She developed a very thick, abundant light to medium brown head due to a slightly over-aggressive pour but it quickly subsided to a persistent cap of medium brown bubbles on top of the beer. I'm not getting much coffee from this beer but I am getting a lot of dark chocolates and caramel malts, especially in the back of the mouth. The mouthfeel is not thin but also not thick and it leaves a dry, almost crisp, feeling after swallowing.

This was a really solid beer and pretty much on par with Shoe Toss. I really enjoyed it and if Wander Brewing was a local for me, I imagine I'd spend a fair amount of time there. Cheers everyone, I hope your Sunday has been productive!

    Final numbers…

I hear you there, I have one that thinks he's a lapdog but we seldom take him for walks for that very reason. Should have worked more with him in that aspect but they have a mind of their own.

Hi there late night NBS from sunny California. First one I cracked today was from the incredible box @WesMantooth sent me in NBS BIF #8, I think I will be posting beers from said box for the next 6-9 months:

Little darker than I expected, sort of dark goldish, with a ton of white bubbly head.
Smell is bread, clove, lemon, other citrus and what I am going to call pepper.
Some bread and citrus, but the finish is all black pepper. This distracts from the overall flavor.
I would call this medium bodied for a saison, and it doesn't leave that nice sort of salty finish I associate with saison's.
Overall this wasn't a bad beer, and even though it had a pepper flavor, I still liked the way it tasted, but it just didn't hit the notes of a saison.

    Thanks Corey!

Finally getting a chance to enjoy a couple of new beers.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle
A: Pours a deep dark mahogany with a slight tan head. The head iis on the thick side and subsides to a ring around the glass
S: First smell is strawberry. There is also an aroma of charred malts, dark chocolates and coffee
T: There is a sweet strawberry flavor up front. Like strawberry syrup. Notes of vanilla are throughout. There is dark chocolate with some bitterness.
MF: Creamy and thick. The sweetness finishes dry. I was 2/3 of the way through the glass before I looked at the abv. I was shocked that it was 11%. This beer could be dangerous.
O: This is spot on for what they were going for-Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla. Perfect beer for a cold rainy Sunday night.

Sometimes you want to drink complex barrel aged stouts, some nights you want ****ty mosaic NEIPAs. Sometimes you want to lose yourself in Van Morrison or Leonard Cohen. Other nights you want mindless pop music. tonigt it is mindless pop music.

Downed this one while catching up on the thread. Digging into @CanConPhilly box from the BIF.

I've enjoyed all if Carton's offerings that I've had in the past so I was excited for a new one. I usually shy away from sessionable beers but here goes.
This one pours a somewhat hazy golden orange with a finger of white head.
Citrus on the nose, pithy orange.
Taste follows, pithy orange with a bit of malt peeking through.
Light to medium body, spritzy carbonation.
Overall this would be a good summer drinker.

Second beer of the day - still mildly hungover from yesterday...

I've been raking leaves and mowing and trying to get the yard cleaned up all day - feeling thoroughly beaten tonight. I could definitely stand to lose some trees. I think that's an issue to be addressed next year.

Anyway - thirsty! I was hoping for something clean and refreshing, a bit lighter, and I ended up reading for a farmhouse ales from @larryi86 - Larry crushed me to tender, painful pieces in this round of NBS, and I'm still recovering. I'm pretty a good part of my "winter weight" is thanks to Larry - appreciate it, man!

The glassware is also from Larry - really liking this glass.

I was somewhat surprised by just how much head this beer has - I had to clean up after my over-pours a couple of times, which is probably more to do with my hangover and latent stupidity than anything. Summer Friend, from Forest & Main, is surprisingly light on that standard farmhouse funk - both in the nose and on the tongue. For a farmhouse ale, it's quite clean and light, even finishing quite smoothly. I like this one - farmhouse ales are not a favorite of mine, but I could drink many of these.

Thank you again, Larry - amazing boxes this round!

I'm probably out for the evening - I have the day off tomorrow, but I'm beat from yardwork and cleaning up around the house. I'll sign off here! Hope everyone has a fantastic week to come - enjoy your Halloween, and we'll see you next Sunday!

My nightcap was one I have been wanted to try for a long time. It comes from a ridiculous box sent to me by @FFFjunkie during NBS BIF #8, as revenge for a ninja box I sent him last round:

    The box:

Obviously Dan is not right in the head.

    Tonight's new beer:

L: Super black with a tiny tan head that disappeared quickly.
S: 3 years in and this still has huge bourbon and oak notes. After the bourbon you get chocolate, then slight notes of toffee, vanilla and dark cherries.
T: This follows the nose almost exactly. Huge boozy bourbon and oak up front, followed by slight hints of vanilla, dark fruits and toffee.
F: Just like most BCBS stuff, the feel is super thick and has a nice dry finish.
O: So glad I got to try this once. I love BA stouts that are big on bourbon and oak and even though this is 3 years old, it did not disappoint.

Thanks so much Dan, you are way to generous!!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle
A: Pours a dark brown. Thick off white head.
S: Smell is of pine and grass. Thee is also an aroma of char.
T: There is pine, grassiness and slight stone fruit balanced with coffee notes from the charred malt.
MF: The charred malt flavor hangs around but it is otherwise light bodied. alcohol burn is non-existent.
O: not my favorite style but this is a really good example of the style.

I probably should have warned you... but those fresh hop brews are even more time sensitive than the cliches about most IPAs. Hopefully they've still got some of the fresh hop goodness, but they may already be on the hard downslope. :slight_frown:
