This was really confusing when I was only looking at avatars and wondered why @jlsims04 was arguing with himself.

I think you're both kind of right. They crave the line, and they basically ensure it will be nuts with the allocations being so heavily weighted to LP. But, it's each individual's choice to wait in that line or not wait in that line.

 

I think it's fair to say that Binny's corporate (and maybe individual management at the LP store) love the spectacle, and I'm sure Goose Island does. I'm not sure they want the rowdiness, and I bet Binny's line-level employees are not big fans of any part, especially now that the store is opening up 2 hours early. They've now begun a slow descent into the shitty madness that most other retail employees deal with on that weekend.

 

Yeah let's ask @Vav how he felt about the spectacle.

 

Anyone know where the best place to get a decent selection of BCBS variants is outside of Black Friday? I, unfortunately, have to work on Black Friday, so I've never been able to go to one of the Binny's releases.

 

Whole foods does it a week later usually. Lots of smaller bottle shops release theirs later to regulars. Good luck!

As far as I know, Variants don't really last past Black Friday. Just the regular and usually the barleywine.

 

Another option - I believe @HouseofWortship and some friends are planning to go to a Detroit wholesaler prior to Black Friday. Something about just needing a ski mask...

@Quilentro is correct on all accounts with his response, although you don't necessarily have to be a regular at some of the places. Best bet is to follow all notable quality beer shops close to you on social media.

They do last, but the rules of the hunt vary from place to place. If you value your time too much to wait in line, a certain small grocery on Western has made a habit of charging way more than others (almost 2x). Northwoods lasted days, and maybe longer.

 

yeah, it depends on how much you value your time. I know come bars (world of beer etc) sell bottles but at bar price. So my guess would be a variant would be $35-45 a bottle. however, if you just want one, it might be worth it to save yourself time..and you can sit in a bar at a later date drinking BCS variants

 

I think "variants don't last past Black Friday" is a fair enough statement in general; exceptions obviously exist, and there's always the fabled "second drop" that Binny's sometimes sees (and even if they don't, it's a fun rumor to perpetuate).

 

Don't most places do the drops after Black Friday now?
