I can’t believe you remember that box.

The only beer I remember in there was mother of dreadnaught ....at least I think....

My records indicate Space Station Middle Finger came from you. You might have sent a Zombie Dust, which I had reviewed previously. If you sent Dreadnaught, I didn't get around to reviewing it. I remember that it was 3-22oz bottles.

See my reply to Y2K, I was thinking even lower key than that, but, if we get a few folks interested, i'll go along with what the group decides.

    I'm in.
As long as the ABV is high enough, it won't freeze. Black Tuesday is perfect for December

Plus, if one uses USPS Priority boxes, they move quick enough to not freeze.

Shit, we 8+ rounds in, and now ya gotta drag Oprah into our business? Ya know what ya get from Oprah? Feelings. And, as a sign on a local business says: don't catch feelings, they'll kill you.

    Definitely in.

I'm not sure I'm going to do that again, either... they make my cellar feel inadequate.

I do love the mystery beer aspect of both the NBS BIFs and the 12 DoX. Maybe we could mix that in? Say three mystery beers to be reviewed blind the first 3 Sundays of December?

Just a drop in the bucket for some of you guys but I hit beer #500 on here with this one courtesy of @jhavs. I have tried to start doing more reviews than just ratings thanks to the encouragement from NBS.

Thanks Jon for another tasty one!

Well then, our work has been successful.

As always, the beer is the most important thang. That said, the thing NBS has always been about is: let's not just show dicks about who is drinking what, but, more about "check it out, my neighborhood brewery has this."

At the risk of being Grampa Simpson shaking his fist at clouds: I remember when a NBS with 30 posts was a busy day.

The fact that when I wake up on a given Sunday now, and NBS is 2, or more, pages deep, says to me that we're doing something right.

IMHO, what separates NBS (and thus its contributors) from WBAYDN is the socialization, details, and community we don't get from other threads.

That's why these BIFs were hatched. And, mostly, why they work so well. Congratulations you fuckers, y'all have done a good thing.

I'd be game for a very low-key Secret Santa BIF: medium or large flat-rate box (I pack almost the same into the medium, since I use the long, flat one).

I would be down, I think I have seen people do it and the bottles/cans are wrapped and there are certain days you open certain beers??

Good morning everybody! From Josh @Bum4ever and BIF#8:

Received from @Bum4ever in NBS BIF #8. Undated 16 oz can. Reviewed 10/31/18.
Stored at 42 degrees and served at 55 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 60 degrees.
    Appearance – 4.25.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to the light, a bit of brown appears under the ring.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.8 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, high density, average duration, diminishing to a choppy four to eight mm ring and a thin complete layer.
Lacing – Excellent! A wide, continuous band of mostly tiny to small bubbles.
First pour – Medium brown, clear.
Aroma – 4 – Coffee with a hint of chocolate and toffee.
Flavor – 4.25 – Compared to the nose, the coffee is much more subdued but is markedly present. The chocolate and toffee are absent from the flavor. It ends with a slight coffee bitterness. No alcohol (6.5% ABV), no malt, no hops, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 4 – Smooth, almost creamy (Due to the oatmeal), medium, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – I am unable to detect the vanilla but that is probably due to my general inability to taste vanilla unless the concentration is very high. Overall, this is a good coffee porter that does not taste like coffee with grain alcohol added. The lack of maltiness is unfortunate but is balanced somewhat by the silkiness of the oat flakes.
    Rating 4.12, rDev +1%.

Thanks Josh - this is a pleasant change from all that Reinheitsgebot beer I've been drinking!

I haven't had any frozen beers yet, thankfully - whereabouts do you live, James? If someone sends to me via Fedex, I have it held at my local Walgreens. On days when I may have USPS or UPS deliveries, I try to work from home. But, I've had boxes sit on my porch for 4-8 hours, in below freezing temps, with zero issues.

But I wouldn't recommend sending super low ABV sours and sessions... like @SammyJaxxxx said, it's stout season - send those booze bombs.
