Just wanna chime in on a new one to hit the shelves. Ft George - From Astoria with Love (in 16oz 4 packs) is probably the best non BA stout I have had in a long time. 9.5% and smooth as silk with just the right amount of sweet malt and slight back end bitterness. Ft George continues to be one of many Oregon breweries that just constantly kills it without much (or any) fanfare . Highly recommend

I admittedly wasn't a huge fan of Reuben's BA Breakfast Stout, but I had a pint of the non-BA and loved it. Just got better and better as it warmed. I recall the BA version being awash in lactose and terribly muddled. I'll keep trying since it's pretty cheap ($11/bomber), but the non-BA really resonated with me.

Also, Plague of Angels from Holy Mountain. Hot damn what a milk stout!

Still haven't picked up From Astoria With Love, but hearing solid things. Looking forward to it.

A seasonal bump as the rain sets in and our local friends begin waking stouts from their slumber.

Fremont's release of KDS has been a milestone marker over the last 3-4 years for me as the true beginning of the season. This year's KDS is fantastic, as expected, as is the coffee variant. Having it next to the '17 was interesting, as the '17 seems to have accrued an acrid coffee note or a much more pronounced barrel. Had it both on tap during release and from bottle and both exhibited the same note. Wasn't bad per se, but notable, particularly next to the '18 (which is just splendid this year).

Skookum's Scary Joy was worth picking up a few bottles of. Not too sweet, even though it's got all the makings of a pastry stout. Don't think I've had too many BA imperial browns (Kings Head stands out as another).

PostDoc brewing up here in Redmond is having their Demon Star release this Saturday, the 3rd. I first had the mexican version of DS last year and it really surprised me. Not as big and chewy as KDS, but a formidable beer worth seeking out. This year's variants sound awesome too.

I had a Barley Brown Chocolate Cherry Stout last night at the Pine Box. You'd think it was a classic dessert beer, from the name, but it's not quite like that. It's dryer, not thick, and not candy-like. Instead, it's a dry stout with cocoa that's almost unsweetened and significant cherry, which again is not sweet. Interesting beer. Those guys at Barley Brown's can do more than just IPAs.

I think my tastes have shifted, because I'm less into the roasty stouts these days and I find both DS and BA DS fall into that category. So I was surprised with the Mexican Cake version because I found it quite good. Liked the maple version the most.

Most of their stouts are like that I think. Other than the Don Vanuchi BA stout, every stout I've had from them has had that sort of flavor profile. Abv. is usually pretty reasonable as well (I think the DV is the only one they make where the abv. is over 10%).

If one didn't know better, you might surmise that the brewer is one hell of a talented guy. If you didn't know better...

We drive to Colorado every summer, and often go through Baker City. Sometimes it's the wrong time of day, but if we can hit it right when Barley Brown's is open, we are always happy. And you're right, it's obvious the brewer knows what's he's doing.

PostDoc's Demon Star release was great. Low key and plenty of bottles. This year's batch is quite good; I was particularly fond of the double barrel version.

Also looks like Kulshan is releasing a coffee milk stout in cans (!!!!)

Hopefully this makes it down to Seattle.

I've been watching this thread for any new comments about the 2018 release of Mother Of All Storms, but nothing has been said. Is this an indication that the hype for this beer has fallen off and it should be easy to find?

It is one of the few beers that has been on my bucket list, so I'm hoping to find some next week when I visit family in the Medford area for T-Day. Do bottles of this beer see widespread distro in OR quickly after the release date on Saturday? Will just the better bottle shops will see it? I saw a couple bottles of Father Of All Tsunamis in a store in Medford last spring when I visited so I'm hoping the same store will have MOAS. Any opinions on what are my odds will be?

It's pretty much become a shelf turd here in PDX. The beer has become so easy to find, that there's really not much hype surrounding it any more. Back in the day, when you had to drive out to Pacific City to obtain bottles, there was a lot more excitement about the release day.

Call to be sure, but I would expect Bottle Works in Medford to have it.

Good luck. Hype or no hype, it's still a very fine Barleywine.

(which is a good reason why you haven't seen any mention of it here. It's NOT a stout.).

I picked up a couple earlier this week from the NE one. Probably call to verify they're still in stock before venturing out into that parking nightmare.

Funny this was mentioned (both @weaverr & @derfton), but it seemed like the Oregon Costcos didn't have much on the beer front a couple years ago. Curious what the beer selection looks like in Oregon lately?

Well, the beer selection at most Washington State Costco's don't seem to stand out much. Sometimes you will find some real bargains at Costco, but other times, it's pretty standard.

I've been keeping my eye out for Founders CBS and/or Fremont Dark Star variety's at Costco's this year. So far, I haven't seen any. How would those that visit Oregon Costco's judge the beer selection?

The Bend Costco has definitely improved, though it’s still very limited in variety compared to grocery stores or bottle shops. Decent if generally unsurprising mix of Central Oregon, Oregon, and regional stuff with the occasional eyebrow-raiser like $7.99 Velvet Merkins. As a habitual peruser of the beer aisle at any store I visit, Costco sometimes gets stuff no one else here does.

Could be better (if I ran the dept., obviously), but it could be a lot worse.
