You judge beer on its hype way too much, man.

One review that doesn't paint it as the best beer ever and the sky is falling. It's a 120 bottle release from a hype brewery, I'm sure the campers will still get a decent ROI (if they ignore the value of both their time and dignity, obviously).

Yes he does, I love his enthusiasm and he's relatively new to the game so hopefully he'll eventually realize he is the hype machine. After being in the game as long as I have I use "hype " as a warning sign to avoid at all costs.

    Cheers,

So DDB was gifted a beer by a brewery that is trying to make hype and he is dissing the hype and the hype makers? DDB is definitely to blame for the shitty aspect of this culture. I guess I’m new to this guy but sounds like a GD hypocrite.

Ok, as the coffee roaster, currently drunk on Vanilla Maple Shake so I shouldn't be doing this, I figured I'd make a couple of notes:

    1) Re: Kopi Luwak. It started out as overhyped, not very good novelty coffee free of animal cruelty (in the wild the civets are great at selecting the best coffee cherries) and evolved into overhyped, not very good novelty coffee with plenty of animal cruelty involved.

    2) Re: Geishas and the "best" coffee available. Yeah, for a good run over the last few years Geishas deserve to be called the best in the world, particularly ones from Panama followed by Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Colombia (for the countries I've had). There's a reason one of Ninety Plus' Geishas went for $5000 a kilo last year. That being said, keep your eye on the World Brewers Cup coming up soon. Last year there were 4 Geishas, one Kenyan and one Ugandan in the top six with almost all the devices being V60s. And I'd love to try that Ugandan.

And there are some excellent true JBMs and Konas out there. Personally I'd rather spend that kind of cash on Geishas but I'll never dismiss those two.

    3) Re: Hype. I try to live a hype-free existence. I just want to survive doing something I love and I'm super super grateful to have enough friends who buy my coffee that I can support myself doing so. I offered to roast the Geisha for Three Chiefs because I like the guys, they like my coffee, and the home brews I've had from them over the years have been pretty damned good. Could they tone down the hype? Possibly. But I think it's a lot harder starting up a brewery than it is to buy one piece of equipment and some green beans and start roasting.

    4) Lastly. From DDB's full review: "Here’s the rub though: there is too much god damn coffee presence." Hahaha, fuck yeah, that's great news to me. I do like me some beer with my coffee. I'm looking forward to this. And, no, I don't have a hoard of it coming to me like some folks have asked. And I will be drinking what I do get.

PS I'm now going to go have a Shaneal O' Quille at my local.

Fuh yeah thats whats its all bout. Just getting real answers from all people in the game. Yeah its fun pokin' at one another but in the end its all about the love for the beer. I aint even going to b able to make to the release but I would love to try it at least after hearing all this hype to see for myself if its worth the hype.

    Cheers,

Unlike big pimpin' and similar street activities, craft beer is not a 'game', it's a hobby at best.

" Game " is a word used often to describe a profession or situation. As an example, my wife, who's an Attorney, often uses this term when describing her profession. Hobby ? LOL ! Jimmy Fallon said it best a few years ago when he said, " I want to thank my craft beer " hobby " as a way to hide my alcoholism " Hobby ? Collecting rare comic books and baseball cards is a hobby, drinking is not, unless you need to tell yourself that:wink:

120 bottle release, what the hell? KBBS will have a higher bottle yield. Yet, there will be suckers lining up 24 hours in advanced, for a beer they haven't tasted. This isn't batch 2 of an awesome beer released before. Even then, Florida style line ups would be ridiculous.

But bro, line shares, meeting new people, it’s all in the name of craft beer...yeah it’s ridiculous.

Serious question - is the $35 dollar price tag justified by the cost of this nice coffee they are using in the beer?

And the shitshow keeps getting better... Now only the 120 people who buy bottles are getting pours of the beer. IF they have any beer left over after those 120 get pours, then they’ll open up to people who continue to wait in line, but no guarantees there will be enough for more than the 120. WTF?!

At least they have pours for those buying. Much better than some breweries that don't even have the bottle release on tap.
