Amazing NEIPA. Aromas and flavors of big mandarin orange juice, lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, zesty, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight lingering resins/rinds near the end of the glass. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Very smooth/soft feel, minimal warming 7%. Citra, Wai-iti, and Amarillo profile. Amazingly juicy and lightly dank/earthy hop complexity; perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone, not overly sweet from lingering dryness. They always do an awesome job on NEIPAs. Hope I can find another pack.

Amazing as usual. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roast coffee, molasses, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, and charcoal. Balanced roast/char bittersweet and bourbon/oak spicy finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; awesome creamy, silky, velvety, and lightly slick mouthfeel; with some lightly drying chalky roast and bourbon/oak tannins after the finish. Mildly increasing warming finish, minimal boozy barrel notes. Very smooth sipper. Fantastic barrel integration/balance with the fruity/nutty coffee and rich malts; without being overly boozy on the barrels. More recent batches did not seem to need as much added age to mellow from the barrel booze aspect when fresher, vs previous years. Plus, the last 2 years higher ABV made them even richer.

This is from very late last night. I bought this thinking that it was from a brewery that was new to our area but then I realized that Strange Roots Experimental Ales is the new name of what used to be called Draai Laag Brewing Company. These guys are based just outside the city of Pittsburgh and specialize in sour ales. This one is called Razmata and is listed on BA and Untappd as a Berliner Weiss. However, upon inspection of the nose it is clear that there is some wild yeast action on top of whatever else us in there (presumably lacto if this is indeed a Berliner Weiss). It is fermented with raspberries but it pours totally yellow without much to give away that there are raspberries in there. The nose and taste too have very little raspberry but this is a very easy to drink sour, with mild tartness and a lambic-esque aftertaste that has notes of barnyard and of course the signature yogurt-like lacto bite. Fairly carbonated and with a watery mouthfeel which was the only thing I was not super pumped about. Very nice beer though

    Strange Roots - Razmata

Fatamorgana quad dry hopped. This was fantastic. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light honey malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; creamy/bready/grainy malts, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, minimal hop astringency. Dangerously smooth for 8%, almost refreshing. Great soft feel. I reviewed the base beer 4 years ago, this did not blow me away as much. All Citra, Centennial, and CTZ hops. Super juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy balanced hop complexity; with a nice bready wheat/oat/malt backbone, and minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Delicious spot on NEIPA style. Base beer was probably the first NEIPA I ever had, so having others over time probably shifted the opinion down. Will have to find the regular one again.

Fantastic stuff as expected. Aromas and flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, licorice, molasses, maple syrup, toffee, banana, raisin, plum, prune, fig, cherry, date, nuts, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal/peppery hops, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; very creamy, silky, slick, bready malts; some sticky hops and chalky char/roast in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing hop/char bitter dryness; no cloying, acrid, astringency. Very smooth sipping, minimal warming 10.7%. Right on par with most of their other imperial stouts. Rich malt complexity; with balanced bananas, maple syrup, fruity yeast, and earthy hops against sweetness. Not overwhelming on the banana at all, very complementing.

An interesting and tasty brew . . .

Rich hazy gold color with white cap.

Intense aroma of floral, citrusy hops with grapefruit and orange flowers.

Bright hop flavor in the flavor bringing out grapefruit, orange zest, then something richer like ripe honeydew melon without the melon sweetness. Hops are sharp enough to offset these flavors without intruding. Just before the finish hops show more bitterness but not unpleasantly so.

One of my top favorite pales ales since BP entered the state. Aromas and flavors of big pineapple, peach, pear, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, passion fruit, berries, lemon zest, orange peel/rind, mint, onion, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate toasted bread, light caramel malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds, moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Fantastically bright, and fairly dank/earthy Mosaic/Calypso hop complexity; nice malt backbone for the ABV, with no residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. I love this stuff so much. So drinkable. Wish it didn't move to seasonal status. I used to buy this really often when it had better availability.

Outstanding NEIPA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with balanced wheat, white bread dough, light honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, zesty, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; very creamy/bready malts, and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. No cloying/astringency. Super smooth/soft feel, and pretty refreshing for 6%. Simcoe, Mosaic, and Vic Secret. Extremely juicy and lightly dank/earthy hop complexity; great wheat/oat/malt balance, and not overly sweet from lingering dryness. They really have the style dialed in at this point, after multiple runs of Nawt a Cawp last year. Hope this is in regular rotation.

    Good morning, BA.

It is a stunning Fall morning here and I’m having this delicious offering from Sixpoint.

This all happened very quickly behind the fence and I didn’t get the shots as I exactly wanted, but luckily I was ready to go since I already had my camera out for taking pictures of beer!

After getting breakfast, doing laundry, and some reading done this morning, it is time for my opening beer...Thunderlips...

A very satisfactory American pale ale, perhaps a bit thin in aroma and mouthfeel and lacking some depth with the taste, but delivering a powerful hop punch with an almost mouth-puckering dryness.

    Last night's closer...

Looking forward to the games today as usual, with the added bonus that I don't have a 5 o'clock wake-up tomorrow, so I can watch the night game (GB @ NE) in its entirety if I so choose... Pregame shows start up in about 15 minutes...

    Music to my ears...
