That's more or less why I was impressed.

It's just under 4 hours. I'm guessing traffic and getting through the city is a slow trek?

Not sure if it's Clybourn or Fulton you're planning on going to, but I'd guess metra transit is an hour each way. Plus add in normal time to get in and out from the airport, you would have some time at Goose. But it's a pretty crowded day there.

So really - the answer to your question is: It depends. If you are OK with picking up a straw from the McD's at the airport and then snorkeling some vintage Prop - go for it!

If it’s mid-day traffic will most likely be pretty light that day, actually, so a cab/uber would be your best bet. Could be under 30 minutes (or just under an hour, worst case). Taking public transit all the way would require some transfers on the system and over an hour, but if you want a more economical option you could split the difference and take the CTA blue line to Damen or Western and take a cab from there. Probably 45min altogether, give or take, and might be under $20 each way.

Is your full layover is 4 hours (i.e. first flight lands at Noon and next flight takes off at 4), or do you have 4 spare hours (i.e. your flights land/depart 6 or so hours apart)? If the former, I definitely wouldn't bother, as your transit time will eat away most of that, and you need to build in time going back through security, etc. If the latter, it'll depend on time of day as to which transportation option would be best.

It would be the former. From what I'm reading, it might be kind of rough but I may risk it anyways, haha.

    Thanks everyone who answered!

I mean, if you can afford missing your flight, whatever.

4 total hours would definitely be cutting it close, but I also know that sometimes the prospect of this sort of adventure can be 100% worth it.

Man, if GI wanted a cash cow they would put that vintage menu at their O'Hare shop given what they charge for normal fare in the airport.

Yeah, especially given that they do tap BCBS sometimes (I've heard).

If you're ok with potentially missing a flight, and having to take a different one, then by all means, enjoy the adventure. :grinning:

Having 4 hours to get out of the airport, get to GI, then buy some stuff, then get back to the airport, and back through security etc... that's gonna be one hell of a ride. Haha.

I had a layover a few years ago at LaGuardia and tried squeezing in a visit to Torst which had been on my bucket list of beer bars to try. Knowing I wouldn't be in Brooklyn anytime soon I made the trip. Crazy traffic, a brand new Uber driver and an accident on the way back to the airport and I missed my connecting flight. Couldn't get another flight out til the next morning. The sweet glass I got from Torst that day is a reminder to never try that again. Although I was able to go back to Torst for more drinks that night...

So what you're saying is that by trying to grab a drink or two, you added a glass and a second time drinking at the brewery?

    Sounds like a win-win.

Yeah coming to chicago and trekking to Goose Island to risk it all isn't all that exciting. Go to a brewery closer to the airport... Chicago has like a million of them

Yeah it was a work trip and the connecting flight was taking me to Syracuse at the time. In hindsight I guess it was either staying the night in Brooklyn/Queens or Syracuse. There was no cost to change the flight and the early flight the next day got me there before my conference started. I really got bailed out on the fact there was no cost to change the flight. My employer at the time would have made me eat that and it could've been a couple hundred dollars or more. While I got lucky and it did work out I wouldn't try it again and wouldn't recommend it either.

What time did people line up last year in the suburbs (ie Bloomingdale) to get at least a few of the variants? My buddy offered to go for me but I don't want to send him any earlier than would be reasonable. I lined up at 4 am at the Southport Jewel and still missed out on Reserve and Northwoods last year.

I had an issue a few years back in Richmond, VA and their POS airport. Super tiny. I was like 1 minute too late to check in (have to be there 1 hour in advance) because I couldn't find the slot to drop in my rental car keys. Was ridiculous. They radiod back to ask if they could make an exception - which was like 100 feet away because it's a tiny fucking airport - and the woman was a straight up ****. Just said "What time does the clock say?" My wife was Ill, and in my case it was an accident with a late project the night before combined with a flight leaving at 5am. Was pissed.

This response really had no reason to be in this thread. Just...Fuck airports.

Yup, flying is one of the coolest things we do as humans, and we've managed to make it almost as shitty as possible.

Catch the article yesterday about a guy on Delta literally having to sit in shit his whole flight? We have literally made it as shitty as possible... His choice from Delta? Sit in shit, or miss his flight...

That was disgusting. They offered him 50,000 FF miles. I'd sue them for 6 figures minimum.

    Edit:
Tired of waiting on a flight for the restroom to be free?
Fly Delta Airlines- where every seat is a toilet.
