Hmm. I really wish it would be Guinness Foreign Extra or Extra Stout aged in bourbon barrels. Guinness is like what... 4.7% ABV? Most people expect some degree of thick bodied chewiness in their BA beers.

No mention of the AbV, but I'd have to assume it's either the Foreign Extra or a stronger beer brewed specially for this product- they do say full bodied and rich.

It's their Antwerpen Stout (8%) it seems.

If that's true then I'm very excited as I rather enjoy Antwerpen.

Yup, obviously a must-buy if I see it. Excited to try it.

This was my first thought as well. Can't help but wonder what Guinness might achieve with this beer.

We have got to be getting close to peak barrel aged hype.

Diageo has both brands under it's umbrella. A 'partnership' with themselves. Sad attempt at getting those craft dollars.

They've already got my dollars; I'm just willing to humor them on the barrel aging part . But overall, yeah, it does look like they're going for a different demographic/market segment here.

I caught the joint ownership thing but wasn't going to comment on that because I don't think it makes a helluva lot of difference which barrels are chosen. It only makes sense for Diageo to cross pollinate their brands for marketing purposes.

My question, and I know the answer, is why brew it in Dublin and then ship it to America to be aged in barrels?

Perhaps it's cheaper than shipping empty barrels over there.

This just reminds me that I would very much like to visit the Guinness US brewery in Baltimore one day.

It looks like the label says 10%, kind of blurry though.

I'd argue this is evidence we're on the other side of the peak.

I don't care about hype peaks and valleys as long as Boulevard and Central Waters keep doing what they are doing.
