Yeah, they've announced already as well. Looks like @Jaycase has proved the "2 bars only" rumor to be false.

It was a tumultuous time for our nation. The clear beverage craze gave us all a reason to live. The information superhighway showed the average person what some nerd thinks about Star Trek. And the domestication of the dog continued unabated.

Long story short: In 2014 (think of the variants released that year), the Walgreens in Bucktown was hosting an event where it was releasing its entire inventory at noon on Black Friday. Plan foiled! At midnight on Black Friday, some guys walked in and cajoled the Walgreens overnight manager making $5.50 an hour to start selling to them. Not only did the store sell, but it sold by the case. They originally had 50 cases of variants.

Fast forward to noon the next day after a line of beer nerds making their customary run through their 25th store by that point lined up. By then, the store had "a couple of cases" of each variant left. A shit storm brewed, contributing to an ensuing long, sordid tale of the "Walgreens incident," causing threads to be locked, beards to be tangled, and subsequent variants to be infected. The beer gods did not look down on us kindly.

Post script: Walgreens stock price is down $.38 in the last 40 minutes.

Ahhh I see my mistake now. All event stores will have vintage BCS. The two named stores will have Vintage VARIANTS, reading is hard

There are actually a rather massive number of stories from 2014 where people were able to buy shit by the case. -Which, is not only surprisingly silly of some of the small store owners, but also just a wee bit tad selfish of the consumers. Some people still have unopened cases of VR, prop 14, etc. Some people were able to buy cases of reg, BW, and Coffee BCBS 4-packs as well.

    Fucking Bananas.

(I won't swear that I wouldn't have done it if I was in their shoes, though...)

That Walgreens release was also one of the 3 official Chicago bottle release events announced and supported by Goose Island on their website that year (LP & Jewel the others). They were supposed to have reps there with the usual swag. So it was a bit more of a big screw up than some small store accidentally selling some bottles. Also I believe one of the main offenders is well know in the area.

The part that always made me sick was how the perp(s) brow-beat the poor Walgreens employee by threatening to call Corporate and then called up their max-profitz shit-lord brethren to partake in the feeding frenzy. From what I understand the Walgreens employee was fired regardless.

Yeah the release said 12:00, but didn't specify 12:00 midnight or 12:00 noon. This gave the jerks ammo to badger the poor overnight employee to sell it early.

Prop at Black dog gelato right now. It’s a lot of chocolate.

I like it a lot, but I’m not sure it improves the base in any way.

Indeed. And yet, does not surprise me at all.

Interesting...with respect to shit-lording the poor Walgreens employee or buying cases, or both?

Thought it was well done. If you’re gonna double down on the chocolate, that’s the way to do it.

    And the gelato is fantastic.

Prop was solid. Not as good as 17. Definitely better than 16.
