Except for pumpkin beer and only in the company of quiet children, well-behaved dogs and anesthetized cats.

Those cats better be freshly anesthetized. The only thing I hate more than the smell of a three week old anesthetized cat at a taproom is the taste of a three week old milkshake NEIPA at a taproom.

I know this is the controversial opinion thread, but I do think there needs to be a limit. Sometimes a controversial opinion like this, that obviously is not a true opinion, and with which everyone will disagree, overtops the limits of decency so completely that there is little to do but implore you not to repeat an outrage of this kind.

My friends and I enjoy using partially anesthetized kittens to play cornhole at breweries. It keeps the children away from us while we play. Sometimes a curious child will come watch anyway, and for this we keep one fully anesthetized. The fun joke is one of us will throw the fully anesthetized kitten near to the wandering child, and then pick up the knocked out cat and accuse the kid of murder. "You killed him, you killed him, happy now!?!?!?!?" we all scream as the child runs in terror. So much fun..

    Here's one...

    Hypocritical
    adjective
behaving in a way that suggests one has higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.

"And herein lies the rub. (b) No kid or dog wants to be at a brewery and it's not like the scenario is unavoidable. Nobody NEEDS to bring them, they choose to. (a)They just don't give a fuck about anyone else, so long as they get to do what they want, when they want."

"Used to take my kids to beer places when they were little and they were just fine."

Unless you're suggesting that a) you don't give a fuck about anyone else, and b) you don't give a fuck about your kids it seems awfully hypocritical to me.

And my kids were always well behaved, as stated, so although you're trying diligently to point out my hypocrisy, you're failing miserably.

Feel free to try again, if you like.

I swear I'm not just saying this to stir the pot, but rather it has sort of crystalized for me over the course of reading this endless back and forth:

Controversial Opinion: Breweries are not just okay for children, many are actually particularly *good* places to take your children.

There seems to be an article of faith amongst some of the comments that breweries are bad because, unlike *restaurants* which serve food, there is nothing for the kids there. I think this is way off, and in fact exactly backwards, for a number of reasons.

A restaurant, even a casual one, is a fairly rigid and formalized experience. You go in, you sit down, you eat, you leave. Other than going to the bathroom, there is no reason to get up and nothing to do or see if you were to do so. Because kids have to sit in one spot, and even simply standing at the table is generally frowned upon, they are often fidgety and unhappy. Beyond coloring or drawing at the table, there is basically nothing to do besides eat and wait for your parents to finish eating.

On top of that, the food is often unhealthy and/or not particularly to the child's liking. You could feed a third world country with the food kids leave on their plates at restaurants.

    A brewery
is generally not at all a rigid or formalized experience. You go in, you get some beer, and there are all sorts of things to do from there beyond simply sitting quietly at a table for the next hour.

Maybe you go outside where there are picnic tables and grass to loosely hang around. You can stand, sit, lie on the grass, walk in circles within the confines of your little group space - all good. Maybe you stay inside and play a game at a table, either something the brewery provides or something you brought from home (which is perfectly acceptable). Or maybe you play some Pac Man or cornhole or skeeball if you're so lucky.

While you should not be running around willy nilly of course, maybe you and one of your parents wander around freely and look at the merchandise, or the art on the walls, or the brewing equipment, or check out a cute puppy, or simply explore the grounds. There are simply many more acceptable options to do something other than sit in your chair at a brewery than there are at a restaurant.

On top of all that, more often than not, you can bring your own food - food that is generally healthier than most kids menus and food that you know they like.

At either the restaurant OR the brewery, if the parent (or anybody) has too much to drink they are being irresponsible. So that is neither here nor there.

    Therefore Brewery > Restaurant.

    Have at it.

I'm pretty sure I could come up with a similarly reasoned argument for taking my children to a strip club.

Not wanting to speak for the man, but an aggressive post by a man of Scottish decent on a Saturday usually points towards excessive consumption of buckie, so I wouldn't take too much notice of it tbf
