Comics (or the Funny’s) were a welcome part of the newspaper (I got my first paper route at age 11 and passed daily mornings and afternoons until I left home at 16) growing up in the ‘60/70’s, and were a trunk staple for summer camp...thanks Doc for multiple pleasure memory triggers this morning :-)

My new beer is a collaboration between Burial Beer Co., Asheville NC and Evil Twin Brewing - “This Is Bob”, a DIPA Double Dry Hopped w/Citra, Motueka and Idaho 7, canned 10/20/18:

Pours hazy/cloudy deep gold with a big fluffy white head; long cap retention; heavy solid ring/heavy lacing. 4.75

Grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and lemon grass aroma; dank weedy notes as it warms (poured at 44 degrees). 4.5

Taste is fruity hops, but no where near as strong as the nose; semi sweet malt base; very lite hop bitterness in the finish. 4.25

Medium lite body; not full or fluffy; medium carbonation; slightly sticky feel. 4.25

Looks like a NEIPA, but drinks clean; the nose is powerful but the taste is subdued comparatively; overall, I like and could happily drink a 2nd; perhaps not the best of universal yardsticks, but I plan on using it for me...would drink again. 4.25

Could be, at first glance though it looked like some serious floaties of which I'm a fan. I have a bad habit of freezing beers and some of mine look like that too.

    It's a fantastic beer. Wish I'd picked up more than a 4pk.

Got the chance to visit Other Half brewery this past week and attend a release. First NE IPA release I've ever gotten to attend. It just happened they dropped a new IPA that day. Here's my thoughts.

    Other Half's Curly Fries.

Pours a murky orange with two fingers of off-white foam that retains fairly well. Lacing is great. Aroma is tangerine, papaya, fleshy and zesty orange, with biscuity, doughy malts. Citrus here comes off a touch like a citrusy cleaner. Flavor profile is papaya, tangerine, mango, melon dew, and zesty orange. Doughy, biscuity, earthy malt gives it a little firmness, but hops are still the story. Hops are abundant in the aroma, but the flavor profile really drives it up a notch or two. Mouth feel is soft and velvety forming a welcoming texture. It has a medium-thick thickness. Overall, big hop notes, which is to be expected. Flavor profile is really the driving force here with the aroma lacking just a touch.

Aaaand the Chiefs just shot down the field in three plays to score a touchdown against the Cardinals! We've been let down a lot through the years, but this year could be different.

    Good afternoon NBS!
It’s always nice to see something check your palate and confirm you’re tasting well. I had just typed up my review for this beer and mentioned it primarily had tropical fruit, definitely some weed (which I’ve never smoked but smelled plenty) and interestingly some stone fruit. No pine or citrus in this IIPA. I went to Singlecut’s website to try and find what hops are here (I couldn’t find which) and lo and behold their descriptors match three for three. I often wonder if I read a review here or something on the label and am influenced by it but it’s refreshing when that’s not the case. Good looking haziness, head and lacing and plenty bitter. Perhaps a bit pricey but no more for a pint at home than you’d pay for anything else at most restaurants so no complaints. Definitely recommended. Cheers!

For some reason when I first started reading your post/saw the picture I was convinced the top of the can read: "Brewed in the refrigerator" and couldn't decide if I was confused or foudn found it clever...
Turns out there was even more confusion involved than I'd realized!

I picked up some winter warmers this week. First up is Odell's Isolation Ale.
The beer is a pretty cherry amber color. A one-finger head with a little bit of lace.
Sweet malt and subtle spice aroma. Very subtle.
Caramel/toffee taste. Tiny bit of cinnamon and nutmeg.
    Medium-bodied.
Nice enough, but wish it was a little more assertive.

    Epic big bad Baptist
    ..solid black color
..thick,slightly oily dense body with very light carbonation
...aroma us dark bitter chocolate, black coffee, bitter espresso, and definitely whiskey
...taste is a competition between bitter dark chocolate and dark rich coffee. There's some espresso and roasted malts in the background as well. The whiskey slowly builds in every sip and washes over and out the other flavors but it's a really nice effect
    .. overall I'd say it's a slow sipper and totally worth a try[IMG]

    Curmudgeon's Better Half...

I am totally impressed with this massive old ale. The color and tone of the body is deep and inviting and sports a long lasting, dense and creamy head that leaves big globs of foam along the glass. The smell is alluring elements of caramel, booze, and dark pitted fruits. The taste follows along the lines of the smell, developing luscious flavors of maple, bourbon, figs and dates, and sweet caramel notes. The body is dense and oily, combining feelings of alcohol warmth and dryness with chewy residual sugars.

With snow starting around 7am and going non-stop, we have about 4" so far. Football is on TV and a fine wood fire burning in the fireplace. Rocket the Wonder Dog and I had a good breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and black beans after he took Mrs. Goot and me on a fine, snowy neighborhood walk.

All in all, this is shaping up to be a fine winter-like day to relax and enjoy the comforts of home.

Greetings NBS/S afficianados from the snowy front range after it was sunny and 60 yesterday. I love the meteorological swings here! It would have been a great morning to read the comics with a coffee by the fire, but I stopped getting papers delivered a few years ago and don't bother to search online. Some of my favorites were The Far Side, Dilbert, The Boondocks, Pearls Before Swine, Peanuts and Bliss. Somewhere in the basement is a couple of big envelopes stuffed with some of my favorites. Perhaps now that I'm motivated by the start of the thread, I'll search for them later?

A stop at the Tasty Weasel in Longmont last weekend produced my new beer for this post. Another Stovepipe from Oskar Blues and this time it's Mocha Barrel Aged Ten Fidy. It's dated 05/16/18, has an abv. of 9% and I poured it in the free 'Ten Fidy' glass I received at the Lyons brewpub years ago. Let's check it out....

It pours a rather thin looking dark brown that churns up a couple centimeters of creamy mocha colored foam. No lacing is present. The smell is decadent dark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, brown sugar and faint vanilla. Taste is dark chocolate and roast, bourbon, molasses, mild tobacco/char with prominent oak in the finish. The feel is creamy but noticeably thinner than the other Fidy's I've had or reviewed.

While it's another top notch barrel aged Fidy, I was hoping for something slightly sweeter with a thicker feel and more barrel that would have made this world class for me. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great stout and something I will purchase again. My score was on the mark with others at 4.23/5, rDev+0.5%.

With the cold and snow today it will be an afternoon of football, beer and some Christmas decorating. We're early birds here! Cheers and enjoy your new beer adventures, here's my official scorecard.....

    Synopsis:
Tons of complexity in this one. The white wine barrel is obvious, but after that I struggle to describe it. I get tart citrus, apple, sour lemon, wood, funky brett, bread dough, and rotting near-fermented veggies. The end result is pleasing to the palate, and I keep hitting on new flavors I didn’t notice before. Thanks again Brian!

Agreed. Lets just take a step back and realize we are all here to have some fun and share our opinions. A great way one day of the week to forget about your daily stresses or whatever issues you may or may not have and drink a few brews. I enjoy reading all the stories and learn from reviews from all participants new and old. Without new blood the thread wouldnt continue to grow. Ive tried new beers occasionally during the week and then "properly" reviewed them here. I just mention that before my thoughts. If its that much of an issue simply state I tried this yesterday or whatever day. Cheers! Be back in a bit with my first for today.

L-The beer pours a soft hazy yellow. The head is 3 fingers of white froth which recedes to a irregular film. Lacing is excellent.
S-The nose is semi ripe pineapple of moderate intensity. There's a bit of cantaloupe but it's mixing with a bit of alcohol giving it an overripe aspect.
T-Taste follows the nose pretty closely. The only difference is I'm getting that cantaloupe flavor more strongly here than the pineapple. I'm picking up some of the alcohol here as well.
M-Mouthfeel overall is medium. It's smooth and coats the tongue pretty well. Carbonation is soft.
O-Not my favorite flavor profile. Look and mouthfeel are on point however. If you dig the flavor you'll be very high on this one. For me, I probably won't revisit after the six pack is done.
