    Wooly Pig's 'Rustic Helles'

This is another well-made lager from Wooly Pig. The beer has a subtle and delicate approach to things, offering a mild floral aroma with a gentle cracker-like malt base and crisp hop bitterness to balance things out. Very crisp feel and clean taste, very easy to kock back.

And the all-day snow continues. We probably have about 6 1/2" so far...still enjoying the fireplace ambiance and the afternoon football games.

And lest I forget, happy Veterans Day to my fellow military retirees and vets (past, present, and future)...

Hello, NBS. Here is my first contribution for today. I know I'm super late to the party with this beer, but it is my first time trying Born Yesterday.

Pours deep yellow, to bright orange, though the picture makes it seem darker. The body is unfiltered, but not NE murky. As you can see, there is just over a finger of frothy white head on what I would call a mildly aggressive pour. Head retention is about standard for WC IPAs. Some lacing left on the glass, but nothing crazy. Smell is dominated by bitter citrus and some tropical notes. Taste follows the nose but is much more complex. On the one hand, this is Lagunitas, and to me, all their beers have somewhat similar tastes. On the other, I find some interesting tropical notes on the back end that I don't typically get in their beers. Overall, the taste is still a grapefruit-heavy classic IPA. Fantastic body and feel of medium heaviness. No alcohol is noticeable on either the smell or the taste. Overall, I'm pleased with this. It's very good, though not 4.4 good IMO. It's my mistake for not drinking one sooner, but as it is right now, the following are my ratings.

    4.25 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.25 | 4.25. Final Rating: 4.19 (rDev -4.8%)

Tired Hands Bramble. A 7.2% ABV oak-aged sour ale with apricot, cherry, blueberry, and blackberry.

This pours deep purple (near-black) and smells of cherry, blackberry, and maple syrup. Like sour cherry compote on toast. The taste opens soft and flabby (in a good way) and explodes with strawberry/cherry/blackberry mid-palate. Assertively sour with a jammy punch.

Overall, a damn good sour. Maybe one worth trading for if you like fruited beers. I only bought one, unfortunately. This packs a wallop of fresh red fruit. 4.5/5

Was trying ( not too hard ) to post my favorite Calvin & Hobbes, that would be any with his Dad given BS explanations to Calvin, because he can!

Bike Rack Angus Chute Oatmeal Stout, 6.5% ABV. 3.59 overall, was hoping for better

Pours an effervescent Ebony with one finger of mocha colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Roastyness, iron, cocoa, fades as it warms

T: Follows the nose, dryness & a little woody hops & slight smokeyness as well up front. Roastyness, a little coffee & cocoa as this warms, plus dryness once warm, plus little woody hop bitterness. Finishes dry, roasty with a little cocoa & woody hop

A solid stout, but not one I would buy again, drinks alright

Good Afternoon fellow NBSers thanks to @lordofthewiens for the very thoughtful start, I will say I only read the comic strips in the paper every now and then usually I could never pry it away from my grandparents who I stayed with most of the time. I did love reading comics, I thought that they were a great way to build vocabulary and with the pictures help understand words I may not know. I still read comics today not so much to learn new words but as a break from the day to day grind and it is much better than what is on the news daily!!!

I am finally getting started to day with an IPA from Transient Big Rip. This is an IPA clocking in at 7% and was sent to me in a ninja's pocket by @LloydDobler . This was a pleasant surprise in teh time of the juice bombs and sticky bitter IPAs to have one that combined both with nice balance.

Appearance 4.5 - pours cloudy yellow with nice soapy white head with very good retention. Tons of lacing all around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Mild orange and grapefruit mostly with a balanced floral aroma. Earthy hops, very light bubble gum I am picking up every now and then but not with every whiff.

Taste 4.25 - Really well balanced light orange and sweet melon combined with floral flavors nice citrus peel. Mild sweetness up front with some bitterness on the finish.

Feel 4.25 - Medium bodied well carbonated and slightly soft. Nice dry finish.

Overall 4.21 - This one is by no means a juice bomb or a piney WCIPA but a very mild meld of both. It is very easy drinking and balanced.

Back with B2. Staying with the lagers for now. This is Contee from Definitive Brewing in Portland ME.
Poured from a 16oz can dated 9/14/18 to a Pils glass.
Medium orange color, decent head but it fades rather quickly, but the lacing stays.
Aroma is sweet grass, mild apple.
Taste is pepper to sweet to malt. Not bad, but its no Alpen Flo (hopefully that will stay great with this week's announcement).

    Brooklyn black stout
    ..almost a solid black
..just above average body with light carbonation
..aroma is bitter black coffee, bitter dark chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol
..taste is black coffee upfront with the dark chocolate and roasted malt playing backup dancer to the coffee. The high abv is hidden a bit but makes this just a bit rough around d the edges
..overrall it's good but not memorable. I like Brooklyn but many of their products leave me a little underwhelmed [IMG]

Yeah, as a great lover of Single Malt Scotch, this didn't quite live up to my expectations, but was still quite a nice and interesting brew. A lot better than Buxton Highland for sure anyway. At least it inspired me to buy a bottle of Talisker or Lagavulin again, which I haven't done in quite a while.

Enjoying this one from my take home stash of Philly beers, I received this from @CanConPhilly and @larryi86. Since I had a double I forwarded one to my VT buddy that sent down a pretty good HF bottle for the share, he thanks you guys for the return beers.

I'm not generally a fan of pumpkin beers but I am a fan of Tired Hands Milkshake beers so I was happy to have this one.
Pours a hazy golden orange with two fingers of white head.
Initially when I popped the top I didn't get any pumpkin or spice notes, it was all citrus hoppy goodness. After pouring, it opened up a bit and the pumpkin and spice were there along with a bit if vanilla.
Taste is interesting, hoppy citrus IPA at first with a flavor that transitions to pumpkin pie. I like pumpkin pie! Pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, notes of allspice linger.
Medium to full body with a creamy feel. Good carb levels and low alcohol presence for the ABV.
Overall a tasty variation on an IPA. I'm still not going to run out and try every pumpkin beer I see but I did enjoy this one.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. I never thought I'd make it to NBS today. My wife has been working me mercilessly all day carrying boxes of kitchen items up from the basement where they've been since we moved in May. The new kitchen is now complete, the accoutrements have either been put away or boxed for donation, and I'm freed to enjoy a new beer.

Today, I'm reviewing another wonderful Stout from @Vidblain's NBS BIF box: Mani from Hammerheart Brewing Company in Minnesota. The bottle states that it's a "smoked chocolate stout with cherries added aged on vanilla in bourbon barrels." I expected something a lot sweeter but was thrilled by the taste: the cherry is sour, the chocolate is bitter, and the barrel is delicious but delicate. There's also lots of earthy char. At only 8.1% ABV, it's highly drinkable. This is a unique and wonderful Stout. Thanks Chris! Here's my full review:

    4.43/5 rDev +0.2%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

I received this from @Vidblain in a BIF box. February 2018 batch. Poured from 750 ML bottle into a tulip glass. It pours an inky black with dark walnut hues. The creamy, mocha-colored cap dissipated slowly leaving a thin film of lacing inside the glass. On the nose there's abundant chocolate and caramel with notes of char, cherry, and bourbon. The taste is different than I expected: the cherry is tart - almost sour and there's a lot more earthy char in the taste than in the smell. As with the aroma, the barrel is subdued which I like - it doesn't overwhelm the other flavors. The chocolate isn't nearly as sweet as I anticipated; it's more of a bitter bakers chocolate. There's also tobacco smoke and a hint of leather. It finishes fairly bitter and smoky. All of the flavors blend very nicely. This stout has a pleasingly creamy mouth feel with a low level of carbonation, and a surprisingly tame 8.1% ABV. It's delicate and doesn't bulldoze like many higher ABV, BA stouts. Overall, Mani is very well conceived and executed. And it's not necessarily a dessert sipper; it would pair well with beef or game.

I'm pouring the rest of the bottle into a growler so I can enjoy it later. I hope everyone is enjoying his/her new beer today. Cheers!
