This seems almost inconceivable to me. I haven’t really been there much the last couple of years, I don’t even work in Manhattan anymore, but this is sad to me. This was like a 2nd home to me in the city for awhile so this is pretty shitty news. RIP RnH.

Think about this statement and then maybe your conception will shift.

You should read my whole post next time, I don’t work in Manhattan anymore. I don’t live around there. It’s just crappy to hear.

That’s pretty rare nowadays. I’m “only” commuting about 20-25 minutes now.

Sorry to see it go, too. My nostalgia comes from working a few blocks away when they opened, but I too rarely went lately. Usually it was in favor of their west location, which is right by the PABT. But also, when I made a pit stop in that area it was to hit the Gingerman, usually.

I remember going there for a Founders event soon after I joined BA. KBS, CBS, Black Biscuit (the latter two being keg only at that point in time) among others - absolutely magic.

Obviously by no means complaining about the current situation of tons of great NYC breweries making our own brand of one off/special beers - but there was something a bit special back then if you were a non-trading NYC’er. Going to events like that was basically your only way to sample some of the crazier stuff.

The thing I always liked about it was the atmosphere. Was their taplist awesome? Most of the time. But, by the 3rd time I’d been there I felt like I knew half the people there. The crew that worked there was always friendly, the “regulars” were welcoming...it was a lot of friendly faces and non-pretentiousness at a time when good beer bars were few and far between. There might have been a decent amount of Irish whiskey involved too, haha. Good place to watch sports too.

Was a little upset to see this as it was one of my frequent mid-town spots. Friendly staff and non-pretentious. They even let me take home a couple bottle of Goose Island OG Vanilla during one of my visits. My fiance and I would stop in here for brunch and beers every time we spent the night in the city.

One of my favorite memories was during NYC Craft Beer Week (2011ish?) when they hosted Stone and Greg Koch got on top of the bar and started screaming out a speech at the packed bar. Truly a memorable moment. I guess at least there's still Rattle N Hum West.

Back in the day when I only drank IPAs, I wandered in there for the first time on a Saturday afternoon and had a KBS, that was pretty magical. It was a time when people would go nuts for the stuff. Place was empty.

It is amazing now, CBS/KBS ,FW events in cities these days with incredible lists, but they dont really draw in many extra bodies. I have seen FW events with tap lists better than they probably ever have had the actual brewery, hardly anyone notices these days.

Sorry to hear an era (albeit only a 10 year one) is coming to an end. I was never much for going to bars, ironically even less so after I joined BA - probably because I was older more than anything. But I did go a bit out of my way once to drop into RnH East before I caught my train home. Only a scouting mission really, didn't even stay for a beer. But it sure did seem like an enjoyable place to relax over a few pints.

I was at that Stone event too! Had a lot of fun. I never went that regularly, but in my early days of getting into beer RnH was a destination I'd seek out for special events. I still remember getting to try Hunahpu there at a Cigar City event way back when. Now I work fairly close by. I'll have to stop in for one last pour.

First Pony Bar HK and now OG Rattle?! Man, those were the two main Manhattan bars that I frequented early on in my beer geek days. I still remember having my first glass of CBS there, also had my first BCBCS there...great times. If RnH West wasn’t around this would sting a bit more but the ambiance there was pretty unique

Many great moments etched in memory from wonderful times at that place, it was a beacon of great beer in a sea of beer darkness that was NYC back then. A beer lover's haven that was beer nerd heaven. Sad to see it go, excited for times that make it so it will hardly now be missed

I’ll be in town this weekend....will have to stop by and pay my respects. Had my first taste of Utopias there; seems like every time I’ve been in they’ve had at least one hard to find gem on tap.
