Is it me or is this years Brown Shugga' less brown and less shugga than previous years. It kinda tastes like a barleywine lost somewhere between England and America to me. Thoughts?

This years is the first I've had but I'd agree the brown sugar flavor is a bit muted, which isnt necessarily bad. It definitely drinks more like a barleywine, its got real strong malt and hop flavors. (on the "other" website its classified as a barleywine.) Still a tasty brew.

Agreed. Still delicious, just not what I remembered from years past.

Didnt you hear? Every brewer in the world got together this year and conspired to make shit beer. Hence no 2012 vintage can favorably compare in any way to previous years.

I can think of a few breweries that clearly didn't get the memo.

This is the first time I have ever had brown shugga last night, I thought it was good, but for the name shugga I think it could have been a bit sweeter i heard previous years were, i dunno im gonna drink it up anyway

Grab a sixer last week and it was delicious as I remember from two years ago. Maybe not as sweet but still off the charts with deliciousness. Really a unique brew.

Shouldn't we just start an ongoing thread entitled Beers that Aren't As Good as Last Year's ?
That way all of these complaints can be one place.

I guess I lucked out - I grabbed some when I saw it this year because I'd never had it before, even though I was afraid it would turn out too sweet. Turned out to be just right for me, much sweeter and I couldn't take it.

This years was good, but not really my favorite. Tasted like a brown sugar coated tangerine if you're asking me.

Is it just me or does everyone think every beer is starting to be described like a barleywine?

True, but I'll bet you they get together next year and conspire to make everything worse than this years.

Meh super overrated brew. They need to bring back Lagunitas Sucks. Its definitely less sweet than 2 years ago but its still too unbalanced. I remember it being way hoppier too.

Brown Shugga was originally an attempt at GnarlyWine gone wrong about 15 years ago. So a mistake ending up becoming a great beer..

Easiest drinking almost 10% ABV ever. A very unique and great beer. To you all your taste buds have changed, not the beer. Especially after everyone's disappointment last year, they wouldn't make a lesser beer after. Drinking one now, awesome ........

I was actually quite disappointed with this beer. It was the first time I'd had it, and I thought it was rather messy and unbalanced. I ended up giving it away to friends.
