So I was lucky enough to get a single bottle of Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star 2018. Never had it before. Never even had the original Dark Star. I know this is a subjective question but ... when do you think is the best time to drink it? Fresh? Wait six months? Wait six years?
Not 6 years. I'd probably wait 6 months, but it's fine fresh as well. In the past, I thought it was better with a few months of bottle age, but thought it pretty good fresh as well. Haven't tried the 2018 version yet, truth be told (I'm pretty certain it will be excellent as always though).
I've only had it once previously, which was with 8 months age on it. Loved it! Given how our palate and preferences are often polar opposite @thuey, do with that data point what you will.
I'd suggest this. I personally prefer both KDS and BBomb with ~year on them, but it's an amazing beer fresh and ages gracefully for years.
I would agree to drink it now. We recently got a couple as well as had on tap, so we will be aging one of them now.
Yeah, if you don't have more than one bottle, aging it doesn't make much sense, since you have nothing to compare it to. I just domed one the other night, and it was dope.
Did a vertical last December for '13-'17, 14 was the favorite by far. Going to open some BBDS this year to see how they turned out.
