A shit day. A long day. A bad day... Do you have a ‘go to’ that sets you at peace? Personally, after just having one of the worst beers I’ve ever had in my BA existence, I just cracked a BA Yeti and I now feel tranquillity. Be well.

The original Swedish Carnegie Porter was a beer I kept and sometimes sought. It truly seemed to have sedative and other interesting effects. It may have been a very good placebo effect, but it worked. I haven't seen it in years, but these days I think Carlsberg brews the brand.

Victory at sea is that beer for me. It's available, consistent and I've never been disappointed to open and drink one. I just know it's a good choice every time I pick it up. There are better beers, but most are seasonal batches and vary in quality. That consistency brings me peace.

Just about any Trappist quad makes me contemplative.

I would say the fourth or fifth barrel-aged stout of the night normally brings on the peace!

Man, there are so many. Any good beer makes me happy. That said, a big beer (big stouts, barleywines, quads, old ales, strong dark ales, imperial pumpkins, yes, I said pumpkins, etc.) by a fire on a cold night does it for me more than any other. Barrel aged yeti is a top 3 beer for me, btw. I've been irritated to not see it around here for about 3 years.

My number one used to be Alpine Nelson. It took a 4 hour round trip to get it, and every time I popped it I was thankful. Damn dirty shame what Green Flash did to it. Still, I have Pliny and Lunch that always seem to make things better.

Not to sound like I'm copping out on an answer but really any high ABV stout that I can sit back and sip. Ten Fidy, Even More Jesus and Old Rasputin immediately come to mind.

I would say most higher stouts for me. Most commonly that's Dark Hollow as I can get it year round and it's fairly affordable.

Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak.
I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,
And, as with living Souls, have been inform'd,
By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.
What then am I? Am I more senseless grown
Than Trees, or Flint? O force of constant Woe!
'Tis not in Harmony to calm my Griefs.
Anselmo sleeps, and is at Peace; last Night
    The silent Tomb receiv'd the good Old King;
He and his Sorrows now are safely lodg'd
Within its cold, but hospitable Bosom.
Why am not I at Peace?*

Ha ha! The fourth or fifth barrel aged stout would put me on my knees.....by the toilet bowl. Not peaceful for me!
