Amazing NEIPA. Aromas and flavors of big mandarin orange juice, lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, zesty, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight lingering resins/rinds near the end of the glass. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Very smooth/soft feel, minimal warming 7%. Citra, Wai-iti, and Amarillo profile. Amazingly juicy and lightly dank/earthy hop complexity; perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone, not overly sweet from lingering dryness. They always do an awesome job on NEIPAs.

This is amazing. Flavors of huge caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, golden raisin, plum, fig, apricot, cherry, red apple, and biscuit dough; with lighter notes of molasses, leather, herbal/grassy/peppery hops, and yeast eartiness. Similar aromas, a bit of booze as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; very creamy/silky malts; some sticky hops, oak tannins; and light slickness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter/tannic dryness, no cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth, mildly increasing warmth of 12.7%, minimal barrel booze. This is just as impressive as I remember. Amazingly rich malt complexity, balanced fruity yeast, and perfect barrel integration; with solid earthy hop balance against sweetness. I think this showcases the maple syrup character better than CBS, easily. Feels more prominent. Base beer is one of my favorite old ales, I hope they bring it back soon.

Awesome NEIPA. Aromas and flavors of huge apricot, peach, pear, pineapple, lemon, orange, grapefruit, passion fruit, papaya, mango, watermelon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, light peppercorn, and pine hops; with spicy rye, lightly toasted biscuit malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and rye spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 8.6%. Feels like Azacca/El Dorado. Tons of stone fruit/tropical notes. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; great rye/bready malt backbone, minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Not as hazy or soft as expected, but still delicious.

Fantastic imperial stout. Dense oil pour; great head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, pineapple, coconut, toasted biscuit, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, and tobacco. Very slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Very mild herbal, roast, char bitterness; and fruit tartness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; Very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Slight slickness, sticky hops, chalky roast, and fruit tang. Slightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth, minimal warming 12.8%. Amazingly rich dessert stout malt complexity; with nice coconut/pineapple presence, without being overdone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Still feels like a typical imperial stout from both breweries.

Eight hour travel day yesterday plus 4 hours unloading stuff from the storage units into a U-Haul; and no alcohol! Making up for lost beers this morning - KBS:

Bottled 2/26/18. Still has plenty of coffee, and the chocolate/bourbon notes are front and center. Hope this beer is as easy to find this year - I saw it in lots of bottle shops and liquor stores last May to July as we traveled from Florida to Maine and back. Cheers from St. Pete and have a great Sunday!

Agree wholeheartedly with your excellent assessment of “Curmudgeon’s Better Half”, probably my favorite “new” beer of 2018. Compared to the 2018 CBS I drank last week, BH was richer and smoother with more satisfying maple notes...and I’m not a maple guy! Thanks for the tasting notes, and Cheers!

Drinking off the Beaten Craft this morning, BA, with a Carton Gilded Lily. This is a 10.6% Belgian style tripel with honey and truffels. Cheers!

Going with what looked good . . .

Deep amber gold color with lasting cap and lacing.

Aroma of toasty, roasty caramel malt with herbal spicy hops.

Unusual for me in an Oktoberfest the first thing I taste are the hops. Malt is rich and layered with elements of both sweet malt and toasted/roasted malt yet there is no hint of roasted malt bitterness. Nor sweetness for that matter which may be due to the abundant hop presence. Fairly complex and consistent to the end. A surprising Oktoberfest for me (wasn't expecting the amount of hopping) yet one I rather enjoy. Over the years I've had a number of fairly simple malt rich Oktoberfest versions and frankly I'm glad I came across this one where hops shine without becoming too bright to cast the malt into shadow. Well played.

..this is by far the most vinegar taste I've had in a beer. I enjoyed this but can easily see it turning some people off [IMG]
