Another action packed weekend comes to a close. Ran a respectable 5k yesterday where I managed a third place age group finish, put up Christmas decorations, hit up Epic Brewing in Denver today and hooked up a new sound bar in the guest media room. Bears-Vikings on the screen now and a new beer in my glass.

A stop at a liquor store yesterday yielded this pint can of Weldwerks Brewing Co. activate Lasers New England style DIPA with Mosaic and El Dorado hops. The date stamp reads 10/24/18 and the abv. is 8.4%. Pouring today's mystery in my often used Storm Peak glass for the occasion.

It pours a cloudy dark yellow leaving behind two fingers of thick creamy white foam. Heavy lacing is left in it's wake. Smells like mango, peach, orange zest and bubblegum. The taste is sweet juicy peaches, mangoes, white grapes, floral, bubblegum and a hint of peppery spice in the finish. The feel starts smooth and creamy before turning very dry.

A smooth easy drinking DIPA for over 8% abv. that has a Belgian-like smell and taste I'm guessing is from the yeast. It reminds me of Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster from Shorts that I had a few years ago. I like it and I'm happy with my decision to purchase the four pack. My score is 4.02 / rDev+2.8%.

That's it for me, I'm back to the game. Have a happy Thanksgiving! Here's the official scorecard.....

It is a clear reddish hued copper color. A light tan colored fizzy head disappeared quickly.

It smells like molasses, vanilla, and slightly nutty.

Sweet flavor up front with a bit of a metallic taste. Amber malts are definitely noticeable. Fairly malty with a touch of nuts and toasted bread followed by a vanilla and caramel sweetness. A hint of oak as it lingers.

Body is light and a little airy/prickly. Carbonation is on the higher side. A little bit of a lip smacking stickiness in the finish.

The Beam aspect is a pretty nice complement, but the beer itself just doesn’t have enough substance. Certainly not awful, and the bottle will go into the collection, but I don’t see another purchase in my future.

Poured from a 2018 12.7 ounce bottle into a DFH tulip, it has a thick dark brown body with almost no head. Even straight out of my 50 degree beer fridge, the smell of booze and dark sweet fruit has a straight shot into my nasal cavity sensory detection dendrites. The taste likewise just bludgeons its way into my cortex. The mouthfeel is perfect and cannot be improved upon; minutes after taking a sip, if I run my tongue over the front of my incisors, I can taste it again.

This might be the perfect beer for me. There's no need to cellar this bad boy because there's nothing out of balance; it's just that everything is set to eleven. I have to find more of this to be consumed very sporadically. Just an awesome experience.

Actually, I'm not in the jungle; far from it, baby.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch tan head over a black body with no lacing. Head is gone in a few minutes. Nose of roasted malt, tangerine peel, and honey. Where's the cocoa? Taste of honey (Ha!), tangerine peel, and some cocoa. With each sip the pasilla chile becomes noticeable, finally. Good feel and overall, I was hoping for much more out of this but, no.
    Cheers!

    An Irish-ish pour!

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over a black body with some sticky lacing. Nose of roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla. Taste mirrors nose somewhat, but with the nutmeg asserting itself to a degree. Tasty. A bit of caramel and chocolate comes forward after warming. Very nice feel and overall, yet another Evil Twin Impy Stout that passes muster. Cheers!

Pours hazy Orange. Foamy, medium, White head that last a while with lacing.

Smells Citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, doughy and mango.

Taste grapefruit, citrus peel, mango, pineapple, light fruit and a hint of peach. Finishes dry with a citrus peel and light Pine linger. Medium body and creamy and slightly picky medium carbonation.

Getting back into the BIF box from @CanConPhilly with this one.

Pours a thick looking black with a finger of tan head that dissipated pretty quickly.
Getting dark roasty malt, sweet dark fruits, strong barrel notes, alcohol definitely present.
Taste follows, dark roast, plum, cherry. The alcohol burn dulls the tongue a bit.
Medium bodied, not as full as I expected from the pour.
Overall a good BA stout, might be better with some time on it that would mellow the barrel heat a bit.

One more from @CanConPhilly before calling it a night.

Pours a thick black with reddish hints, especially in thed thin head that was present.
Smells of roasty goodness and cherry.
Taste follows with roasty malts, some chocolate, and tart cherry. I'm enjoying the cherry in this.
Medium to full body with a good carb level. Smooth, creamy feel.
Overall a tasty one, I wouldn't expect anything less from Bells.
Cheers all and hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

So the guilty party is @kemoarps . I'm hoping for a handshake tick tomorrow!!!
    I'm just saying.
Oh, BTW Hello Late Night NBS.
So We had a serious beer share tonight. Brother, dad, a few friends, sister-in-law (hella cool beer fan), the wife...

Bootjack IPA from Icicle Brewing (never heard of it- but so glad to have made the acquaintance).
Thanks to the extreme generosity of kemoarps for this CLASSIC NW gem.
No bottle date, but this baby is gloriously fresh.
Appearance is straight up lacing. That's what impresses me more than color. Retention is great, but the lacing is downright clumpy and tempting.
Smell is straight up old school NW IPA. Its piney and citrusy. The malt comes through in an assertive, yet not overbearing way. Hops are downright floral citrus. But the malt note comes through as almost honey like.
Taste is even better than the nose. The floral citrus notes dance with a honey malt sweetness. Moves gently toward piney in a most graceful way. Shared with 4 other people, and ALL were very impressed.
Mouthfeel is spot on for style. Light to moderate in feel. Carbonation comes along for the whole ride. Good feel.
Overall, the consensus is...a great representation of an old school NW IPA.

Happy New @jkblr Sunday, MKII, or CANtinued (Week 717), Part Deux!

Well, I was contacted by CKW2G to let me know that my presence will not be required today. 8=( It is kind of a blessing & a curse in that I would like to be working, but I CAN fill the day quite easily here at Chez Woody.

My next one was of a style that has only recently been added on this site. I have only reviewed one previously, and man, was today's funky!:
