For me, Orval finds room in the shopping basket every couple of months- it's small enough, and only a $5 adder to the total. Oddly enough, however, I can't say that I've ever shopped specifically for Orval; it's more of an impulse buy. But then whenever I drink it at home I'm always wishing I had picked up a few more...:sunglasses:

Edgar from Bullfrog in Williamsport, PA. It's been several years since I stopped in on my drives between Lancaster and here in The Wilds. I do remember a Thai IPA on tap that was pretty good and the food there used to be good as well.

You know, I barely realized how much of an influence Sam Adams had on American craft after revisiting this week. They're a lot more "balanced" than other Vienna lagers I've had (30 IBU), which is nice.

I came back to this thread to add that beer to my (short) list. A great beer I never buy.

Bells Expedition Stout. I didn't see it last year and with the massive influx of new stuff hitting shelves on a regular basis, I kinda forgot about it.

I received a Blue as a gift last year and was very pleasantly surprised. This beer used to be difficult for my palate but I found it unique and easy to drink.

I would like to take another shot at Peche Mortel.

Breckenridge Lucky U IPA. I tried this during my early days on BA and my rating for it was off the charts. I haven't seen it here since.

I too would love to find some fresh Pivo. One of my top 2-3 pilsners but haven't had any in over a year because I can't find it (or its in a mixed pack on the shelf that is really old). Other one is the Sam Adams Noble Pils which I have to wait for 1-2 bottles to show up in a seasonal pack. Great /fresh pilseners are hard to find for my liking. My pallet is really finicky for the style as well so lots of pilseners people recommend I'm ok with but only a few out there where I actually crave the aroma/flavors.

Do you get Troegs Sunshine Pils? That stands up with the best of them, imo. It's year-round now and in cans.

I too use to drink a lot of Stoudts 'back in the day'. I thought about this recently when I purchased a 6-pack of Stoudts Oktoberfest: I thought to myself I should buy Stoudts beers more often.

    Cheers!

I have that exact same problem on the east coast; I have not bought any Pivo Pils (cans/bottles) in over a year. A beer bar near me always has Pivo Pils on draft and when I visit that bar I always order a pint (in a tall Pivo Pils glass).

    Cheers!

Bell's third coast old ale. I haven't been too long without it, but I don't believe I've ever had a fresh one and it's supposedly on the shelves. All I ever see is 2015 bottles in the stores, thought they stopped making it 3 years ago.

Yes, but I've never been overly fond of it and I'm sure its just my personal tastes. Easy to drink just part of the pack/doesn't stand out to me. Most of my favorite pilsners have been small batch/nano brewr stuff that I can't acquire easily or at all. Pivo and SA Noble fresh are the 2 distributed ones that really stand out as well as PU and Jever and a few other Germans but again, freshness is the issue. IMO pilsner freshness is equal/more important than IPAs to truely get the aroma/tastes at maximum enjoyment before it just becomes another bland easy drinking lager.

Honestly, Goose Island Bourbon County. It was my first bourbon barrel aged stout about 5ish years ago and I wasn't too impressed. However, I have to wonder if it was my palate not being experienced enough - so I've bought several bottles this year + variants. Very excited to revisit this one!

I agree with you here. A few years ago I 'lucked out' and saw a 6-pack of Pivo Pils on the shelf that was less than 45 days from packaging; that beer was excellent!

I am fortunate that there are a number of small, local breweries that produce high quality Pilsners and I can find them very fresh. My favorite of late has been Root Down Pils; that beer is excellent in my opinion.

    Cheers!

Edit: At GABF 2018 Root Down won "Mid-Size Brewpub of the Year":
