?

Should bad traders be given a second chance?

Now, if they are a true bad trader they would just create a new profile anyway. But in the rarest instance that someone wanted their rep kind of restored in some way could that be possible? This is the only way I'd think I would consider it:

    1. If the bad trader came through for those he screwed and threw in some amazing extras.
    2. Had at least 25 trades completed since being on the BTL and his/her traders had a good experience.
    3. Ran a LIF that included a very sought after beer. i.e. KH, CBS, whatever.
    4. Start a thread where he/she gives a formal apology to the BA community and most importantly, to the BA who got screwed over.

If all these things could be met; I'd think then maybe they'd deserve a second chance. Not that I see this ever happening. But if it did, I probably shit my pants (on purpose).

I wish this wasn't anonymous because the deed was objective not subjective. Why didn't you make the poll viewable, I want to know who the 7 people that want to give second chances!

My suggestion would be to leave them on the list but include a footnote saying they eventually came though. Anyone who still wants to trade with this person can make them ship first. There is no risk in this case.

Thanks for keeping this list together by the way.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

EDIT: I didn't vote either, as none of the options available express exactly what I think.

leave them on the list. taking 18 months to make good on a trade is pathetic.

Even in a situation where somebody takes a month to make good on a trade that they flaked on. The trade may have been made good, but that doesn't automatically make the trader good.

I've thought about it some more since our conversation and it makes sense that if they did it once they can do it again and you can't tell if life genuinely came up or if they intentionally screwed someone over. So I think you should do the asterisk/footnote thing or new list of people that have made up but regardless, never take them off.

All that should happen if you've made good is that you can trade again but IMO if you didn't send in your end once, you should be on a list that makes people trading with you have you shipping 1st forever especially on trades that aren't just easily replaceable locals for locals. So they lose the right/privilege of not having to ship 1st.

Then again, without being able to have more personal info on people they can just start over with a new account.

Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate you all taking the time to give me your inputs on this subject.

After reading all of your thoughts, I came to a conclusion that Bad traders will stay on the list. Those of them who do make things right and come to me and let me know will stay on the list. But, I will be adding notes by their names to let everyone know that they came through in the end.

    Thanks again BA community.

    Keep them on the list.

Since, it's an excel spreadsheet maybe just color code their "story" cells as Yellow for "eventually made good, trade with caution if you dare".

I think that it needs to be case-by-case, honestly. Definitely note the spreadsheet that he eventually made good. Otherwise, the bad trader wouldn't have had any incentive to make good on the trade, even if it was 18 months later.

I'd say that if someone reached out and communicated honestly and made good with the person(s) that got him placed on the bad trader list, then that's a step in the right direction. That should be worth something.

I think that someone with the username "Bad_Trader" is not somebody we should be taking advice from....

I also think that leaving someone on there, but noting that they are trying to work things out, and at least made good on their offending box would be good for them if they want to get back into the game. It will ALWAYS be up to the other trader to decide if it's worth the risk or not, and if you see that they fucked up once, but made good on that box, and have had some successful trades since (the bad trader can always post on their own profile that they have new references since the bad trade). It's each traders responsibility to do their own due diligence and research on each trader if they are in question.

As long as the bad trader is made to ship first, where's the harm in allowing him back in the game? It's not like they can burn someone that way. If they never ship, you never ship.

I didn't really mean to remove them from the list, but maybe have a "pardoned list" for traders who have made good on past deals and proven they could reestablish themselves as good traders.

No getting off the list as far as I'm concerned...you know unless you spend 30 seconds making a new account.

Unfortunately, no one can stop that. But whenever someone can link a bad trader to a new account, please share so I can keep the list up to date.
