I'm surprised by the lack of chatter about this. I stopped by the event today around 11am. Nice crowd, but not too crowded. The price points on the pours and bottles is on the high-end, but given the smaller scale of the batch, and the ingredients/process required for the style, I understand. Tried a pour of the cacao cherry version, and I thought it was well balanced...though, $45 for a bomber is just too high. I'm guessing the regular BTD will be on tap there for a few days, at least.
Dang! That's a lot for a bomber. How much is a bottle of the regular? Or was the regular $45? I still have a bottle I traded for when I visited MN this year. Looking forward to trying it and wish I could have picked up or traded for a couple more.
Personally I do not care much for the beer. And the bottle hunt thread discussed this and should supply you with all the information you care about.
That is a lot, but honestly, not terrible compared to a lot of other breweries producing BA beers. It is in line with many other cities' small batch, large format, BA big beers. Maybe Steel Toe's fan base isn't quite ready for this jump in pricing, but I certainly was looking for their stuff when I was setting up trades before visiting Minneapolis. The pricing is comparable to Bruery's beers ($27+/25.4oz), Rip Current ($25/22oz), Modern Times ($32/22oz), Bent Pattle's DSDB ($25/25.4oz), Surly Darkness ($25/22oz), etc. Many of these prices are also without sales tax, which I believe Steel Toe includes (when I last picked up Lunker in the tap room) and without online sales fees. Maybe this isn't a good comparison, but what about Abnormal's and Bottle Logic's prices @ $25/16.9oz? Yes, some are worth it, but that's still pretty expensive and more per oz than many other breweries. That's why I have turned to breweries releasing smaller, multiple pack formats, like Revolution, Founders, Lagunitas, etc. Anyway, I can see the negative sentiment considering it appears to have been $20 in the past. I'd still pick one up if I lived in Minneapolis. Wish I could visit for a taste! In short, I'm in agreement with GeezusH and just thought I'd provide my input on the pricing. I'm just really glad that there's such great beer out there at any given moment, especially here in San Diego
I wandered over to Insight’s party that day and promptly flushed money away for a bottle of their scotch barrel Gravity Well. Pure garbage, that was.
The two bottles of Gravity Well I’ve had in the past we’re awful. Drain poured one of them. It’s too bad because I generally like Insights product.
but some of them were limited to 1 bottle per person... so .rar..... oh wait.. people are finally learning how to spend their money. Maybe we can boycott hops enough to get the price of a 4 pack of IPA back down to $10-12....
I'm sure your referring to the NEipas but I totally agree. I've stopped buying them for the most part other than the occasional single. Elevated had the last brew projekt for$7.29/can. Easy pass. I'll stick with coronado, pipeworks, bells, and others making killer 4-6 pack IPAs for$10-12.
Yeah, I love all the NEIpas but it’s getting out of hand. I like going to zipps and picking up a few singles to try the new ones without committing to multiple 4 packs. They don’t mark up their singles very much.
Glad to see these haven't sold out. Not sure how much they have left of any of the bottles, but hopefully enough where they'll be forced to slash the prices. Only very select few breweries can get away with this type of pricing.
