Hey all, at the risk of sounding like a total tool - I almost exclusively #drinklocal nowadays. My aunt wants to get me some beer for Christmas. I have no interest in making her search out a brewery she won't be able to find, and my mind is blanking on what to request. What is my best bet available at every Jersey liquor store? I was thinking something German, but am accepting all input. Maybe a Sierra Nevada that isn't an IPA? I don't really want a six pack of like SNPA that I feel obligated to drink, so something that'll sit well for a bit seems like a plus.
Sunner Kolsch has six packs (or was it 4-packs?) in cans now. That would be cool. I'd appreciate like hell if someone got me one of those Duvel, Weihenstephaner, Sam Smith gift packs with the glass. Or also any Belgian mag like the Gulden Draak beers. If I were you, I'd take advantage of this moment to revisit some German/Belgian classics. What part of Jersey by the way? North Jersey seems to have different distro than south Jersey and I'm only familiar with the former, specifically Paramus eastward.
A gift card? My mother in law got me a $100 OH gift card (they’re no Grimm I know) Or your aunt feels strongly about physical beer
If you really want to #drinklocal and want some German style beers, you really can't go wrong with Ramstein. Their winter wheat doppelbock is pretty damn awesome. Not sure what the availability is like by her, otherwise Ayinger's should be pretty easy to find in most bottle shops.
not in EVERY jersey liquor store, but in a lot of them you can usually find Carton is around then there is Icarus, Czig Meister, if she can find Man Skirt "great porter" - it's a pretty solid un-adjuncted porter. I've always been a sucker for rando founders beers
Is there a craft beer store or something similar near where you live? My wife got me a gift card to a nearby craft beer store last year, and it was a lot of fun making my choices without considering the price.
I honestly wouldn't ask anyone to pick me up shelf beer, that I wouldn't also ask to check dates -admittedly an annoying request. I respect the fact you asked for a beer suggestion, I couldnt come up with one, so my answer is bourbon. Specifically E.H. Taylor Single Barrel. For more of an entry level, can't go wrong with Eagle Rare...
Maybe go with something like a nice belgian style from ommegang. If just Jersey I would say River Horse is available everywhere and I just enjoyed a 6 pack of belgian freeze over last weekend.
Tripel Karmeliet gift pack if she can find it. Makes a great gift and it’s one of the best tripels out there. Cheers!
I’ve noticed there’s this Duvel gift box out at some of my locals. 2 different Duvels, 2 of each, and it comes with an 18oz tulip glass. https://www.belgianstyleales.com/pr...4-bottles-1-glass/shop-belgian-beer-gift-sets
