    SIR, doing so now, Sir!

First impressions sir: not a gusher. Maybe a slight vinegar/wine tang in the aroma.

Hobo Chris And I will continue our research. Wish us well.

SIR, final report, Sir, while clearly past prime, neither of us thought the beer was "bad". Chris thought there was a bit of wine tartness, while I thought there was a bit of vinegar/tart, spoiled wine taste. Still enjoyable, if one was lucky in their purchases. I wouldn't seek one out, but also, I wouldn't turn down a pour if offered .

To be honest, this is consistent with my experience as well. I've only had a couple of 09's that I thought were undrinkable (the two bottles I alluded to in an earlier post). The other ones that were clearly infected, I actually kind of enjoyed the slight cherry tartness the infection seemed to impart.

My impression, and my concern, is that the impact of the infection has likely only worsened over time. My guess is that there are some bottles of 09 that are still enjoyable (depending on one's fondness for vinegar and sour tartness), while others are pretty much a drain pour.

Either way, $30 strikes me as far too much to pay for this beer at this point. I'm curious what Belmont Station's policy is when it comes to returning spoiled, infected beer. I have to think there are going to be more than a few customers who will be not be entirely happy with what they encounter when they crack open a bottle of 09, including some who may demand a refund.

Really enjoyed the Imperial Double Coffee Stout from Cloudburst tonight. A touch on the sweet side, but still really good.

If anyone is flying into PDX and needs 2018 Abyss, it's all over the place. The new Deschutes pub in Concourse D has a metric butt-ton of it. I also saw bottles in Concourse C at the Made in Oregon shop and in front of Capers Cafe.

Speaking of Deschutes' new PDX pub: If you need a few bottles of Black Butte XXIII, they can hook you up. Ditto for Mirror Mirror, Cultivateur Saison, and The Ages.

You can find bottles of pFriem Bourbon BA Imperial Stout for $13.50 at Timberline Lodge in Concourse D and $8.95 at the aforementioned Made in Oregon.

Are there any other airports where you can comparison shop for beer?

Speaking of comparison shopping... damn that's a pretty significant swing for the pFriem bottles just from concourse to concourse. Crazy!

So a post by @vurt in our goretex thread about balebreaker resulted in me visiting their site. It too has been redone. But this got me most excited (I think I email a couple times a year asking them to do this)

Further reading indicates can release party was yesterday. I hope it goes out in distribution and remains year round.

Had an Alesong Rhino Suit for the first time. That is quite a nice beer.

I haven’t tried this years’ version yet, but I’ve enjoyed it in the past. The Mocha version is fantastic as well.

What did you have to pay for it, if you don't mind my asking? It was on tap at Beer O'clock last Sunday, and I was tempted to get a glass until I saw the price. I think they were asking $8 or $9 for an 8 ounce glass. Still not as spendy as the completely over the top Modern Times bourbon BA Monster's Park ($13 for an 8 ounce glass), but it was a lot more than I was expecting to pay for it.

Agree, I really like this year's version as well. Really enjoyed the Mocha also, but wasn't as into the vanilla. For my palate though, the Senor Rhino has definitely been my favorite of the series so far. Such a good, well balanced beer.

Even worse! I was actually at Beer o'clock and wanted to try it, but it was $11 for 8oz which I am not paying, but they had bottles of it in the cooler (500mL) for $17 so I got one of those instead.

edit: they also had Rackhouse Reserve at the time, I assume that is similarly as good?

LOL! I couldn't recall the exact price, but remembered that it was much higher than I was expecting and that I simply wasn't going to pay it!

That's interesting. I've never seen their stuff on draft around me so no comparison, but their BA stout bottles are typically $16-$17 (500mL I think?) which is fairly in line with other breweries BA stouts so I'm surprised that it's so expensive on draft.

Yeah, the pricing may say more about Beer O'clock in this case. Typically, the pricing there is very fair, with one of the best happy hours in the city. Yet every once in a while, especially with BA stouts, I'll see a price tag that raises my eye brows.

Last year they were the only place in town where I saw BA Ten Fidy on tap, but I think it was $11 for an 8 ounce pour, which prices out to considerably more than the can retail price. The Modern Times BA Monster's Park is currently $13 for an 8 ounce pour, which even for MT's seems kind of high (22 ounce bottles are in the $30 range). The thought has crossed my mind more than once that whoever is doing the pricing there, perhaps math isn't their strong suit.

You've got to recoup all those $3 pints somehow.

Just an edit...can release party is December 14. Also, saw cans will be a winter release. Draft is still year round.

Holy smokes, finally. Haven't had it in a few years, but I remember it certainly being can worthy. Can't wait to give it a shot.
