Appreciate them trying to do something cool but that price tag is asinine as fuck

Just sell the bottles separately god dammit. The swag should be something you buy in the store

Who doesn't have a snow hat for the winter? Who needs ANOTHER bottle opener?

Sales would be greater if everything was spaced out instead of being forced on you with that box

Do you honestly think it won’t sell out under the announced configuration? How would sales be greater if people were given the option to pass on any of the included merch?

I think the price is asinine too, but if they sell all the boxes, they weren’t wrong to set that price.

That's exactly what I am getting at.

    - Low-level swag
    - 2 bottles
    - $125
    - 500 box sets

    -------------

    - $30-35 per bottle, all bottles they intend to sell.. 1400+?
    - $20 per beanie, I bet they have a crazy amount
    - $12 per glass, I bet they have a crazy amount
    - Stickers because why not?
    - $10 per bottle opener, I bet they have a crazy amount
    - GN saves cost on wood box

Box locks in the true one time lovers... err crazy resellers. Will you keep the box? - scheme above opens up the reward to everyone

Remember, tis the gift giving season. If us nerds don't just gobble 'em all up, I can easily see these being Kwanzaa presents for a lot of folks. Shrug.

I think they'd be better for Festivus. We're already in the middle of the Airing of Grievances.

The Feats of Strength will occur during the mule handtruck races on release day.

Hey all, my brother lives in Portland and is willing to get the box set for me. In all honestly would 8 am Saturday be a good time to line up or do y’all really think 500 people will be waiting already (assuming it’s 1 box pp) thanks!

Resell for the box is at $600 on some sites. Maybe 2:30 AM is more "the go"

Worth a shot, he'd probably be able to drive by at that time and get a good idea. There are people flying out here for this release though so expect a shit show, you're going to owe your brother big time.

To be honest, I thought GN showed remarkable restraint with the schwag they included in this box. They easily could have thrown in a t-shirt, some napkins and coasters, a keychain and even some lady's lingerie, and jumped the price up to $250 for a gift box. I doubt that would have had any adverse impact on the demand for these boxes (who knows, it might have even increased the demand).

A release like this is an absolute golden opportunity to unload all kinds of goofy schwag that typically no one would want to buy (at least not at the price GN would want to ask for it), but that buyers are now forced to purchase if they want to obtain the gift box set. And my, but doesn't there appear to be a whole lot of sheep racing to the barn in order to be fleeced.

What are Great Notion release lines typically like? I'm visiting Portland this weekend and would be willing to wait a while for something like this. But do I need to go straight from the bars at 2 am to get in line? LOL Can I bring a chair? People bottle share in line?

Not making a Double Stack brassiere was clearly a missed opportunity.

I'm glad they're putting it on tap next week and potentially selling single bottles in the future. Although I kind of want to go get brunch on Alberta Saturday just so I can see this in person.

edit: oh it's at the NW location, nevermind.

Typically, the biggest concern is that GN will shut down sales before you arrive for the release. Lines for beer are typically fairly short and it moves quickly. Frankly, the bigger concern is that you might arrive too late to buy beer on release day (they keep on selling beer as long as there's a line - once there's no line, the release day sales come to an end). I don't know what GN's policy is regarding bottle shares in line (given the location, my guess is they're opposed to it), as it's never really been a consideration in the past (as usually no one is in line all that long).

However, there's never been anything like this release before, so it's pretty hard to predict what to expect. Given the expected demand for this beer, coupled with the limited supply, it's reasonable to assume that there will be a very long line that will likely start hours in advance of the release time. If you want to be absolutely sure of getting a gift box, I would probably recommend getting in line no later than 8 hours prior to opening bell. I know that sounds crazy (at least to me it does), but I think that's probably what it will take to be reasonably certain of getting a box.

Hmm thanks for the info. I wonder how early employees will be there to do a line count

How much hype could a handtruck truck
if a handtruck could truck hype?
It would truck, it would, as much as it could,
and truck as much hype as a handtruck would
if a handtruck could truck hype.

The faith that some people have blows my mind. This is the first time this beer's been in barrels (as far as I know) and these guys haven't even done a bourbon barrel stout before period (as far as I know). Yet, some folks are willing to shell out ~$60 per 500 mL bottle (or many times that in secondary apparently). That's a lot of faith.

And the brewery wonders why all of the locals aren't their biggest fans.

The same thought crossed my mind. Going to be a LOT of unhappy campers if this turns out to be a complete dud.

You could sort of understand this kind of behavior with a brewery that had a proven track record when it comes to BA adjunct stouts, but this seems like a lot of time, effort and money to shell out for a complete crap shoot.

It won't matter. People aren't going to criticize a beer they put that much effort and money towards, unconsciously or not.

I'll bet the folks who go into the taproom to try it on draft will (if warranted of course).
